So, no doubt you've all heard about www.sonicretro.org/
I'd like to show a couple gems from there.
This ones still in the making...

Its a remake of Sonic 2, in HD! I can't wait until it gets done, donwload the TD (demo) above.
Heres some screens

(drools)

(salivitates)

The next item has been completed and several versions realeased, its in Sega Mega CD format. (You'll need Gens emulator and make it sega cd capable)
Sonic 1 Mega Mix

Its a very, very heavily hacked version of Sonic 1 with all most completely new levels and 4 new characters added, all with their own unique abilitiys and superforms.(shadow, mighty, knux, and tails)
Also, harder than than the normal genesis games
Happy Gaming.

We already knew about the HD project. First I've heard of a demo, though.

I've heard of the second one, but I don't think anyone's talked about it here yet. Our resident Sonic Retro expert shall be here soon to fill us in, I'd bet. Looks like it's been discontinued as of '07, according to that page.

^ The game combines the time-travelling aspect of Sonic CD.

Isn't talking about hacks of roms generally seen as a bit of a no - no on these forums?

No. Providing direct links to download them, on the other hand, would be.

That doesn't apply in the case of the Sonic 2 HD project, as that's essentially a completely new game written in a different code. As for the Sonic 1 Megamix on the other hand, that's more of a questionable issue as that essentially is a ROM hack. That said, there're no direct download links in this thread, so technically it's not a rule break far as I can see.

If SEGA decide to sue us over it then I'll remove it myself. ;p

You know, it kind of bothers me that Sonic has a smile in the HD versions of his normal and Supersonic sprite.
For some reason the sprites always suggested to me that he was frowning and looking ready to kick some robot butt.

Yeah, the SuperSonic smile looks really off, because his eyes are less angry than normal Sonic's, who looks more badass despite (because of?) the grin.

Eh? The eye shape looks the same to me. It's just that the shine on Super Sonic's face makes his eyes look different.

It has more to do with muzzle placement in the sprite than eye shape, but Super Sonic's eyes are less American Kirby than the plain Sonic.
