Just keep at it. Sky Road- the next stage from where you are- had me for an entire day, but just persevere and you'll win.
@the cartoon
Sega's heading in a better direction with this one!
Gotta love the intro, the BEAUTIFUL CG beginning and end cutscenes, the humor, the fun, and seeing Eggman fart. AWESOME. Wheee! My smilie's doing a Spin Attack!
That's so cool!I think i'll find that episode and watch it!

Sonic riders in three minutes o.O
I no longer have a need to play the game. Yay!
Does anyone know the best character/gear that can win gold at the Grand Prix-s? So far I beat the first one by using Shadow and Omnipotence. (for those who don't know, Shadow has a higher boost than all the speed characters making him the best speed character in the game and Omnipotence can give all abilities speed/flight/power to a character but doesn't get extra air using ability shortcuts)
I barely won the first one too. With the combination above, I a got first every time except for Sand Ruin, when Dr. Eggman surpassed me and I got second. I was on the verge of despair and almost had a heart attack until I saw I still got the gold ranking...with 48 points!
And that's my traumatizing adventure where I unlocked SEGA Carnival. My sister thought I was nuts for shouting YES! at the top of my lungs.
Why are you using omnipotence when Darkness comes with Shadow? The lack of refulling when you take shortcuts and meh stats kill omnipotence's advantage.
Anyway...to get gold in grand prix, all you need is knowledge. As long as you know where each shortcut is and can use them, you're fine.
The "best" gears are:
- The Cover bikes
- Darkness
- The Advantage skates
- The heavy bike
- Slide booster
The Cover bikes have insanely high stats for their price and Darkness' low air consumption rocks. The advantage skates, heavy bike, and slide booster are an opinion thing; I just plain love the skates, the heavy bike bypasses turbulence, and once you get a good rhythm going, the slide booster's snaking gimmick will have you ripping.
Bikes = pigs. If they were on gasoline, they would get 3 miles per gallon.
Not all of them. Eggman's bike tends to throw people off because it's the gear with the fastest air consumption and in most cases it's also the first bike they get to use.

True, the refueling is a problem, but my strategy is to get a good start, get the 100 ring box, and use shortcuts in instant succession whenever possible, so that no one can use my turbulence to catch up to me and boost from nowhere making me loose all my rings, basically screwing me over. Yes, I know omnipotence is not the best, but if you use it right...well you could say that too all the other boards and gear.

I have the tracks pretty much down pat, its more about timing and how going different speeds is hard to predict the flat optional jumps with the rest of the course.
There are some advantages to omnipotence like the last rail set in Dark Desert, if you make the second rail it will send you straight into the nice power shortcut in the village. Otherwise if you don't have a power add-on with the speed ability then you slam right into the building wall. Maybe I should just use a speed-power combo...but then in White Cave you won't get the fly ring air boost shortcut vine before the A.T. (well you can but there is a huge risk)
Shortcuts = <3
And ALL bikes have the highest air usage. Eggman's happens to be the worst.
I dunno about the Flying Carpet. I don't use it much.
Me, I find that you can do pretty darn well with each character's personal Gears when youget the feel for them (thinking of Sonic with Blue Star I/II).

*Chews your head off for double-post*
I got the Chaos Emerald today! =D But rings for fuel sucks. And with it I get to use any shortcut.
Woo! just got this game a few days ago! Played it for almost 4 hours straight. Great game but can't get past Babylon Garden race in Story Mode! I spent over 2 hours trying to get through It. I keep falling off the sharp corners!!!!!
Ok this game is starting to get on my nerves! I have now played the game for over 5 hours total and still can't get past the Babylon Garden race!!!
Remember, edit your previous post indtead of double-posting.
As a bit of advice, do consecutive mini powerslides instead of trying to belt around entire corners with just one powerslide.
Don't worry about it, the game takes time and patience. Learn the track, and the shortcuts you can take as Sonic. There are at least two grinding areas that I know of, doing tricks in the windtunnel speeds you up even more.
Really though, you're biggest challenge is the track itself. Took me two days to finally beat it, and now it is'nt any problem.

I used that green hawk to win, just play behind him and use his wind tracks (whatever they're called) for the hard turns, shorten your stunts when jumping and just before reaching the finish line use your booster.
personally I didn't enjoy the game for the following reasons:
1- easy: I'm not a pro player, for me to finish a sonic game that fast has to mean the game was incredibly easy. The only real difficulties I felt was with finding the tutorial.
2- the track: I don't favor the idea of a closed track, I loved the boarding idea from sonic adventure one. In sonic riders the tracks were limited in a small space, not enough exploring, obstacles or secrets to find. In fact I hardly found use to the short cuts.
3-technology: where did the advanced metro city with tracks, airships and hover boards come from? Sonic always had robots but his world was always similar to modern earth. Where was sonic riders based on? I felt it was out of place.
4- story: I'm not someone to complain about the story since I hardly watch the cut scenes in sonic games but I have to complain it was a very cheap idea to let eggman host the race (especially with the police chasing chaos emerald thieves).
5- new characters: are sonic team planning on extending the merchandise items? How many new main characters can one sonic game have? I didn't even bother to remember the new characters names.
The game wasn't enjoyable, noisy and imaginative but not fun. maybe to some the story was enough, but I only play sonic games for the gameplay. This game in my opinion was too predictable and blunt. The only good thing worth mentioning was the animated opening, Sonic looks better in animation than CG.

If I recall, there was a city level in Sonic Heroes which looked very futuristic, it had flying cars if I'm not mistaken.
Btw, you're not alone with thinking that there are far too many characters being added to the cast.
the sonic heroes zone? i think it was called metropolis. I don't try to make much sense out of sonic heroes or shadow's video game, I only focus on the sonic adventure/sonic X story, I think they represent the main story for sonic.

that's good to know, I just wish the developers see it too.
Grand Metropolis and Power Plant.
The wierd thing is in Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow and Sonic 06 the city levels aren't futuristic, cars have wheels etc. So in Sonic's world there are futuristic cities and normal, present day cities.
Shazbah! There isn't enough characters in the Sonic games. We need a Team Atlantis. With a Barracuda, a Dolphin and a Shark. Only on Sonic Surfers.
BTW I still love Sonic Riders. despite the sky high AI, the randomness of the air boost and of course the pile of meh that are the E-100000 G and E-100000 R robots. It just makes me smile.

You're screwing with me, right? That game was rediculously hard! You must not be refering to story mode, right?

Uh, tell me where we have robots that use animals for a power source, tell me where we have robots that can shoot lasers and energy balls, that are as humaniod or animaliistic as the Egg Pawns or original Badniks, that can become sentient like Gamma, Omega, and Metal Sonic, or mysterious robots that came from ancient civilisations that can copy any weapon/fighting style imaginable?
That does not sound similar to the robots we have today; if you ask me Sonic has always had futuristic stuff even if it wasn't Jetsonesque futuristic.

So your saying in sonic adventure 1, there were futuristic cities. I don't remember any.

In story mode, I didn't bother to play the rest. Are you sure it was hard? maybe just finding the tutorial but I finished the game in less than a few hours, it was mostly run and dash.
Super Rayzor,i did type "But".
Well, I was talking about the games that directly preceeded and followed Heroes.
You are right there were no futuristic city levels in Adventure 1. Mind you everyone owned a cheap Ferrari knock off. All was right in Station Square.

Yes, I see you did now, I'm sorry, forgive me? *give puppy dog eyes*
Anyway, talking about future cities versuses regular cities, maybe it's like it is on the 90's Batman cartoon. In Gotham, the people dress like they were in the 20's and their cars, etc. looked kinda like cars from the 20's; however, in Superman: the Animated Series, which is in the same timeline as Batman: the Animated Series, the people drove what look like ordinary cars and modern clothes. I don't know if anybody, who's old enough to remember the shows, notice this but I did and I was confused of the differences of Gotham and Metropolis, but I figured maybe the people in Gotham liked the retro feel of their town.
Maybe in Sonic's world it's the same thing, some cities perfer the retro feel; while other cities decided they like the hover cars, etc. and rather live in a futuristic city. Also, maybe the cities we've seen that drive in modern cars are to poor to have hover cars, etc.
lol gotham is poor
Gotham did get a well deserved upgrade in Batman Beyond...am I the only one who remembers that show?
No your not the only one, but I wish I did...
Turn Batman into a teenager with issues, bah! I say. Mark Hamill saved that movie.
Movie? o.o
I remember that show, but not very much. Not as much as the Static Shock crossover.

of course I forgive you, how cute <pats head>
the gotham theory? well, you reminded me of sonic the movie, there sonic did have a futuristic city.

I remembered it and I loved it actually, and TTG, there was a direct-to-video Batman Beyond movie called Return of the Joker and I think that's what John was talking about. BTW, thanks Mel!
Sonic can't be set in the present.
Simple theory is, they wouldn't of had space coloney ARKs 50 years ago. I'd say it is set in the near future. bout 60 years maybe.
Yeah, Return of the Joker. That was actually quite a fun movie but the series was meh. Plus we (UK) never got all the episodes (I think).
Well for SA2 there was the year 20XX shown before one of the cut scenes. so it could range from 2001 - 2099.
Question for people who liked this game. Did it restore some your faith that Sonic Team can make a good 3D Sonic game?
I appreciate the game, but realise that it's quite average. Moreover, I don't think that opinions on a racing spinoff have much to do with Sonic Team's 3D skills in general.
Little information in post. :p
Sonic Riders will be ported to the PC and it'll be out this November 14 in the US.
Source: Sonic Central.
Sonic Riders?! Not SA2 or Shadow the Hedgehog, my favorite games? Man, that stinks.
Sonic Riders is a perfectly good- nay, GREAT- game in its own right.
BTW if you buy it at Target this thursday, you get a Sonic X DVD for free!
