Not sure whether this matters or not, but here goes:

I did a count of the character things on the japanese site, both the normal and ? ones, being sure to add one for the selected character. After counting up the speed, flight, and power characters either on the site or with a space reserved, then adding them together, I came up with 16, and there are to be 17 characters.

Could this mean something?

Yeah, it means they're keeping Super Sonic ultra secret (I'm wondering if he's going to be an 'all' class, possessing Speed, Flight and Power traits). Either that or it really was just an error on whatshisface's part, overstating the number of chars by one(was it Iizuka that said it? Don't remember).

That's nice and all, but I kinda needed the SWF...

I have to say though, that Rouge's design is the least interesting one in this game, of both her other suit and compared to the other riders, while I love Eggman's.

Seeing how the rumored robots are comfirmed and that they are cleverly avoiding mentioning the last three(four?) characters I'm going to assume that the super secret characters are the non-Sonic characters that were mentioned earlier in the post.

I mean if it really was the Chaotix, then they would have mentioned these characters in the profiles awhile ago.

Aren't the robots called E-1million G and E-2million R or something like that? Personally I think if they're gonna use robots they should make them the metal counterparts from R or those turtle robots from Sky Chase Zone. What do you think the chances are that they'll do a Soul Calibur 2 and have a console specific hidden character? Mario, Crash and Blinx perhaps? It also seems like another perfect opportunity to bring in Fang/Nack Since he already has a hover vehicle.

Out of curiosity, how many characters are there now?

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Jet, Wave, Storm, Amy, Eggman Shadow, Rouge, Cream, Robo 1 and Robo 2. 13 Confirmed Characters, + 4 Empty Slots on US Sonic Riders site.

I was just saying the Sonic X Robots would be better than Robo 1 and 2. Any other Sonic/Sega character would be infintly better than those two.

Strangely enough,
the Japanese site still has only Eggman and Amy as the "secret characters". The other characters (Shadow, Rouge, Cream and the bots) have not been announced yet.

They (the Japanese) do have a release date of February 23, 2006.

Nah, they have been seen on many pictures on boards trying to win. The robots at Egg Factory are teh hueg.

they maybe GUN robots because (if I'm right) Eggman is power, Robo 1 is power and Robo 2 is Speed. You would have thought Eggman would have all his bases covered.

Gameplay Movies

Yeah, take a look at the picture we're referring to, the yellow robot is one of those massive ones (just looks smaller as it's further ahead and Knux's noggin is warping as he roars), it's not on a board.

Robo 1 & 2 look too much like Eggman to be GUN robots. They have very Egg Pawn-esque faces and even sport the same pair of oval 'buttons' Eggman has on his normal costume.
