Well, if that's the case, then we get the joy of three random robots... When added up, that does eave proper room for the extra three secret characters, doesn't it?
No no, there's still just the two playable robots, kay? Red and Green. Anything else is just a track hazard. Sorry, I must be crap at explaining things.
Robo 1 and Robo 2 not very original character ideas. They should've used the character spots for Fang the Sniper and Metal Sonic.
Note the amount of characters on the character select screen.
Anyone have a rough translation of any part of it? Believe it or not, I don't know a lick of French.
A 75.1 MB file? On Dial up? with 2 hour cut off time? Purely in french? oooo HSW I like your challenges.
GO! Go!Zilla! All I know in french is Can I have a Ham sandwicha and some Coca Cola please? But i'll see what I can do!
Blast it, all I'm getting is audio. I could probably figure out what they're saying better were I able to see what they're talking about, especially since they talk over each other a lot. As is I'm just picking up snippits, and nothing really new (being able to buy new boards, Story Mode, Adventure Mode, etc.).
I think I heard 'em describe the graphics as "futuristic" and "colourful." At the start it sounds like they've said someting like "These are the characters from the cartoon". o_O Then they go on about there being all-new characters. Later one guy refers to Jet as a parrot before the other guy corrects him. Also, while I'm really really not sure on this, after that I thought I heard "different characters" followed by "comics" and "unknown characters" among other stuff, but don't quote me on that. Though a bit after it mentions "bad guys" so maybe they were refering to the birds or the bots.
Yeah, I'm sure we have some REAL French-speaking members here. Someone else wanna give it a shot? XD
OMG! I thought it was just me. I've downloaded everything to try and make it work. Winamp and Windows Media player only play the audio.
16 character slots and supposedly 17 characters. If it's anything like Sonic R that can mean only one thing.
It must mean that...
Everybody SUPER SONIC RACING!!!!

Characters from the cartoon?? Comics??? Unknown characters??? I wonder, could it be SatAM character could be in the game? I know it crazy but hey they gave Shadow a gun remember. So anything is possible .
People with problems: Which link are you using to watch it..? All three work for me, and I've got no problems apart from slight skippiness and iffy quality{flash versions only}, which blasts the supposed colourful claims away. 😛 I suppose you could try the black flash icon or the QT one?
Thanks for the effort, Crazy. The posibilities trailing out from your observations are rather...daunting. XD

Great reply ^^
Alright, I'll do my best to translate most of the important stuff. On the main menu the modes appear as Exhibition Race, Story mode, Tag Mode, Survival mode and Shop. The descriptions are, in order, Select a track and participate in a race, Paticipate in race of the story, Someone already mentioned the tag mode description, clash with opponents according to predefined rules and Buy extreme gear with rings. The modes within exhibition race are as follows: Free mode (choose a track and play it.), Time attack and World Grand Prix. They also mention that you'll also be able to buy cutscenes in the shop, such as the intro. As in, to be able to view them at anytime.
Their main gripes with the gameplay is that they had no control instructions so they had no idea how to do everything. Also, they had trouble adjusting to the mechanics of turbulence surfing. Also, they make no distinctions beween games and the cartoon.
Well I downloaded it with the HTTPsever thing I think.

They're obviously talking about Sonic X. If, of course, that's what they're actually saying. With the "don't quote me on that" an' all.
....Oops.
>_> I wasn't trying to imply that they were using SatAM characters. The fact that they did say "These are the characters from the cartoon" at the start just suggests they don't differentiate between Sonic X and the games.
And I got the words right. I only said that because they weren't in any clear context.
The cartoon used in the game's intro. Geez guys.

The combination of characters and gear is where Sonic Riders begins to distinguish itself from other racing endeavors. Each type of character, you see, is designed to take advantage of a specific shortcut type. The speed guys grind on rails that cut through courses; the power characters are able to knock through rematerializing walls to access alternate routes; and the fly characters can propel themselves up and over broad expanses of track.
It may seem like the fly characters have an unfair advantage over the others, but each class has been balanced to play on the game's 16 tracks. And, while a power character may be the easiest to use and a grind character may automatically wind his way around the harder areas of certain tracks, the flyers have to actively soar through floating rings. Missing one may even leave a player in a real rut, too.
Oh so that how the whole speed, power and flight works.

The missions are naturally spread over Sonic Riders' 16 different track variations. While we haven't played through all of 'em, we have seen some pretty cool ones, which range from dense cities to lava caves to vast deserts. Each track not only features its own collection of distinct shortcuts, ramps and various Sega related memorabilia, but they also all feature some minor mini-games, like a catapult that must be wound quickly to shoot players across great distances or a series of lifts that lead to better shortcuts.
I wouldn't call them mini games. They seem more like parts of the course than a mini game.

In addition to the singleplayer game, Sonic Riders also features an offline multiplayer mode with conventional races as well as several other game types, like a frantic four-player battle mode that was very reminiscent of Mario Kart's own equivalent of deathmatch.
Ah no online mode .Oh well maybe the sequel.
EDIT- 3 new boards have been added.
www.sega.com/gamesite/sonicriders/
Amy's Board- Pink Rose
Cream's Board- Smile
Rouge's Board- Temptations
Rouge's board is called Temptations.
...o.o
Some... oddly phallic designs on those boards.
Dammit! The Speed/Flight/Power dynamic of this game is actually making me give a damn!
Curse you Sonic Team, stop stealing all my money ;.;
You can actually spend your rings this time. The more I see of this game, the better it looks.

Ummmm.. yea. It looks like Rouge has something else on her mind besides jewels.
Oh dear, they really are making Rouge the token slut in this franchise.
I thought that was pretty clear from the start, Ashide. But why name her board after an old disco group?
...
IT'S A HEART YOU SICKOS.

EZBoard likes logging me out randomly. =_=
You shant have to worry about that much longer!^_^
"IT'S A HEART YOU SICKOS. "
We're just joking. Besides, it's a heart with a teardrop next to it. I think it's loosely supposed to be based on Rouge's old outfit. It's just a unintentionally funny design. It looks sort of like this.. C><3 turn it sideways, and you can see why people are making fun of it.
BTW did anyone else think her design was off? Mainly her head. She doesn't have that bit of hair on the side of her head. Could be an art design error.
It looks like the single player mode will be fairly long. Mission mode alone includes 80 missions!
Perhaps the shorter hair is simply a part of her new Riders design, since everyone got edited a little bit. (even if it's as small as slighlty different shoes and glasses. )
I think Rouge's hair is still there however in the artwork's style, having all the features in shade the same colour, it's now dark purple like her wing inner ear and right leg. As a result, it is hard to see.
shigmado: The " " face was meant to imply that I was being sarcastic, since everyone's getting all dutty about it. ^^; I see the shape you're talking about. (Note to self: use "XD" face next time.)
Also, IceEspio47 is right; her hair is still the length it was, it's just hidden in the shading.
Thanks for the 411 Nightingale.
Anyone seen the new trailer on IGN? They're sure using alot of CGI.
Which is good, if you ask me. I saw it, and the characters look great both in game and in the cut-scenes. It's nice to see so much effort being put into the animation. Now it's a matter of gameplay.
*drool* @ Cartoony stuff
I saw it, and the characters look great both in game and in the cut-scenes.
Ehn...the in-game models are barely on par with SA2*. It's a step up from Heroes**, but still...
*Before questioning this, note that I did do a 10-minute search-comparison with Riders and SA2 screens, and I suggest you do the same. It was damn hard finding a non-JPG'd Riders screen of Sonic.
**I did the same with Heroes, and it actually seems that, despite my previous thoughts, the Heroes models look slightly better than the SA2 models if you ignore the atrocious abundance of shine, which I don't in comparisons anyway, so...
But what about the fingers in Heroes? They went thin at the base and looked horrid. In Shadow they had flesh on those bones though.
I wasn't refering to the sprites themselves, I was talking about how the sprites are animated. Everything is very fluid and active, even in earlier builds, not jerky like in SA1 or super-hyper like in SA2. (In cutscenes, the characters were all over the place. It looked very odd to me.)
After watching the few gameplay footage videos IGN has, I noticed how gigantic the new sprites hands are compared to previous games. I wonder why.
John: The only thing in Heroes I noticed in regards to hands is clipping within their own models{i forgot the proper term yay}. I haven't taken a close look at Shadow but from screens I assumed they were slightly tweaked Heoes models, sans Rouge.
Mimi: ok, I get it. And before someone jumps on you...Sprites are picture frames{not the square kind} strung together to give the illusion of animation. These are used in the vast majority of 2D games.
Most 3D games such as Riders, however, use models. Models are a collection of small polygons that ultimately form one big shape, and I assume the game artists use a program or two to make the animations for them.
They used slightly edited Heroes models but put new textures on top of them. Same shape but feels different...
Made them slightly less shiny, but still far from perfect.
So NiGHTS and AiAi might be true? Interesting....I still want Big the Cat.
~Neo
NiGHTs? Cool. AiAi? Hate the bugger, but at least he's fitting...
but Ulala?
Okay, let's be straight here. I love Ulala. I love her games, especially the first one, and their soundtracks. But she does NOT fit in the Sonic world, and yes I know she already has her own hoverboard. :/ C'mon, ol' Eggy's the only human that fits amongst the animals well.
The biggest qualm I will have with the supposed characters is if NiGHTS ends up on a board...otherwise, I really don't care, though having the robot AiAi instead of SM AiAi would be nice.
Hey, if it's SM AiAi, maybe he'll be running around in a ball. o.o
That would be cool, I guess. Yeah, and I agree that NiGHTS doesn't need a board. Is that Ulala as in Space Channel 5?
EDIT: You know what I mean, you bastards.
affirmative
Chammel?
To Hyper: Oh, yeah. Duh. I knew sprites wasn't right, I just couldn't think of what to call the 3D characters. Thanks!
NiGHTS on a board? Maybe not, he can probably just fly. Maybe he'll get a nifty new design. Maybe he'll get a nifty new game. (I'm reaching out for that one.)

Again, I see someone has forgotten or haven't played either SA1, SA2, and/or Shadow the Hedgehog. =P
If anything she arguably fits in more in Sonic Riders motif than AiAi and NiGHTS--assuming ST gives NiGHTS a hoverboard for some strange reason.
AiAi must be in a ball. No Board.
NiGHTS = flying. it makes more sense. Unless its a really cool board design. REALLY COOL.
Any way isnt it obvious? Sonic and everyone lives in Sega Land. One of the soldiers in westopolis is actually Akira from Virtua Fighter.
I think Aiai should only ride on the bottom half of his ball. Not inside it.
Ashide: Tell me when the GUN Commander and the President are running alongside Sonic the Hedgehog and not just sitting behind desks or in mechs (or in a car) telling people to do things.
Besides, those dudes are of the Cartoony proportions. The way they're done is closer resembling Sonic than anime. They're pretty fitting, Ulala, unless she gets redone into Sonic style proportions (which I'm sure we don't wanna end up seeing), she's more of an "anime" style.
