The famous blue blur is back on the Nintendo DS since his highly acclaimed game Sonic Rush, however it doesnt look like a sequel like everyone hoped. Instead, Sega has once again flipped the gaming community on its ear by releasing a screenshot and additional information for their latest ambitious game, Sonic Risk (working title). Collaborating with Atari Inc, Sega sets off for a Sonic series adaptation of the hit strategic board game. As with any version of Risk, the object is to have your army capture and control all the territories on the map, here called zones. In fact, all the zones are taken from previous games in the Sonic series, especially the original three (four if you don't count Sonic & Knuckles with Sonic 3) games from the Genesis. The gameplay takes place on what looks like a pseudo, warped version of actual continents and islands. South Island is shaped just like the South Island of New Zealand, and while far away Westside Island looks like New Zealand's North Island. Likewise, Angel Island looks like a floating version of Tasmania. Station Square, Central City, Mystic Ruins and a few select zones from the Sonic Advance series takes place on a smaller deformed version of North America (which also includes South America in part). Soleanna from Sonic 360, along with Sonic Rush appears to take place on what should be Europe, with a zone called Water Palace located in the region where the city of Venice should be. There are several other locations like Little Planet and a large spherical space station set up in the sky to even mention.
Already confirmed armies are Sonic & Co, the devious Dr. Eggman, and G.U.N with their commanders Sonic, Eggman, and the G.U.N General respectively. Besides being the leader of their sides, commanders get to wear special hats that are similar in appearance except for color as well as appear with their opponent commanders during amusing cut scenes in Story Mode. Since a regular Risk game has six different armies to choose from, Sega has not released who the other three armies or their commanders are. Troop representation works just like classic Risk, for example Sonic's troops work like this. The lowest kind is either a Flicky, Pocky, Ricky, Rocky, Picky, Kucky, or Pecky, in other words the original trapped animals from Sonic 1. It takes five of these to make a Chao Walker, and two Chao Walkers to make a Hero, such as Tails or Knuckles. Their selection is made at random from the various allies, each with their own signature attack animation, although the damage depends on what the dice says. (Shadow, Rouge, and Omega are missing from this lineup since they appear on G.U.N's side) Other armies use this basis although they are not as diverse, such as Egg Pawns and G.U.N troops as beginners. It is confirmed that the Nintendo DS's Wi-Fi connection will allow players to play the game with people from all over the world. Sonic Risk is scheduled to be available in stores by December of 2007."

All I have to say is...wow. If Sega was smart they would bring back the Battle Kukku Army. Best chance as any, but then again its the current Sega.
Edit: Dang offsite firewalls... *uploads image onto photobucket*
Haha...no sorry.
I was about to call April Fools, then decided the Japanese logo and the Sonic sprite were a bit too good for a prank, but the site shows a 404. The only logo that says Sonic looks fake, though. So is the logo on the top an actual risk game? Where did you get the hat?
Shh! If you keep quiet the young newbies might believe its real!
...
Apart from the modified "Risk" everything in that picture is 100% Sonic, Vec.
Actually, i'd love it.
It'd be brilliant...
If only
It better be an april fools joke. Not to be meen but that sounds like a terrible game
How do I detected April Fools?
Heh. Of course.
Somone out there should desisn software that specifically detects April Fools jokes on the internet...
Impossible. Just TRYING to imagine the lengthy if/else block that would entail is giving me a headache.
Just looking a that page made a little bit of my soul die. Even though it's 100% bulls***, it's enough to make me cringe.

It's a Sonic Advance sprite with a pirate hat.

Let's watch.
you almost had me for a moment there.. then i took one look at sonic in that hat and started laughing. ^^;
we need shadow with a pirate hat or an eyepatch.
That Sonic sprite with the hat is actually real, it's from a mobile phone game.
I'm gonna get me a hat like that...
anyway... Does anybody see a pattern? Secret rings-Arabian nights. Sonic Rush adventure-Pirates. Risk-pirates.
zThis may be a hoax but it still was belivable.
Okay, this obvious hoax has long overstayed its welcome.
