Interesting. IF this is true now we Sonic Rush Adventure and Sonic Rivals 2 to look foward to this holiday season.
Eh. I'll start believing when somewhere that's actually credible reports it.
MAybe they will fix the SERIOUS problems that plauged the previous Sonic Rivals! Still I'm getting Sonic Rush Adventure WAY before Rivals2
What was the serious problem in the last game? That it wasn't fun?
It was decent, but far from great. You were to busy trying to beat your opponent to the finish line to really get a feel for the level. Plus, level design wasn't really up to par. Boss fights were extremely easy. I like the 2&1/2-D levels idea, but I'd rather see a more classic single player design out of that, than having to rush through the level as fast as possible.
Plus, how the hell was Eggman Nega from the future when he was supposed to be from another dimension?
One of Sonic 2K6's biggest problems is that it completly screws up Blaze and Eggman Nega's storyline from Sonic Rush.
I just wish Sega could work on one Sonic game at a time. I mean we're already expecting Rush Adventure and the olympic games (Which is being developed by nintendo but still...)
Actually no, Sega's sports team is working on M&SatOG, with Shigeru Miyamoto supervising.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!!!!
The last one seemed 'out of place.' Why they are making a sequal is beyond me.

Because it will make money, and you know it will.
^But it is on the PSP...
Eh, what I'm wondering about is whatever happened to Sonic Riders 2: the sequel of the first to the place of confirmingness, then nothing more has shown up?
In other words, when Sonic Riders was released they said that a second one already got the green light, but then nothing else has been said about it. Did they decide to give up?
For Sonic Riders there was a rumoured PSP port and the bloke in charge mentioned that the Wii could be the next step for the Riders series. Other than that...
The weird thing about this is that Sonic Rivals was never released in Japan. Mind you I might be wrong about that.
I heard some quite good things about Rivals, but some people thought that they should have dropped the whole Rivals gimmick.

No. You are correct.
What happened to SEGA taking a break from making Sonic games anyway? I can count three games coming out this year, that's not exactly a break, it's more like business as usual.
Did the first Sonic Rivals really sell enough to warrant a sequel?
Last time I heard was during the Dec 2006 NPD that it moved over 98,000 units which I guess it would be okay, but lower that expected considering the franchise. It also failed to chart on the top 40 video game sales list in the UK, in contrast to Sonic Rush which did.
Then again, it was the best selling Sonic title in December--which I guess would be consider great or sad depending on your perspective.
I thought the article said they weren't going to do Sonic games for home consoles for a while.
It depends whether or not you would consider handhelds consoles. They are, of course, but a different market in Sega's eyes. Also they were probably in development before the announcement made after Sonic2K6Gate.

Sorry to get off topic but Blaze and Eggman Nega just could of thought they from another dimension in Sonic Rush but they were actually from the future. But on the topic of Sonic Rivals 2 I think if its real it could be great. I for one thought Sonic Rivals was good but could have been better.

I guess it depends on how many people actually own a PSP.
I'm in the same boat as Beardie. I always thought they believed they crossed dimensions but in "reality" they traveled to the past. I also tend to believe there is a connection between the events in Sonic Next (Solaris) and the Sol Emeralds in Sonic Rush (though this is just an inclination as I haven't yet played Sonic Next).
I can't wait for Sonic Rivals 2. I must be the only person who enjoyed the first one, but that doesn't matter I can't get enough of those two player races!
I enjoyed it but it could have been better.

you're a slow learner, aren't you
sonic team thrives on gullible, forgiving people such as yourself

That...actually made sence, to the point for some reason my mind never made that connection before. *hits himself on the head repeatedly*

Actually, I believe that the power gems in Sonic Next are the Sol Emeralds. I mean they're powerful gems that give their user great powers, they're shaped like the Sol Emeralds in Rush and have their, as well as the Chaos Emeralds', colors, and finally, they're found in Soleanna meaning they could have been called Soleanna Emeralds for awhile before being shorten to just Sol Emeralds by the time of Rush.
It's a shame there was no mention of Sol emeralds of any kind in Sonic Next, and given that Sonic collected some of the chaos emeralds from Blaze's future, I think it's one big mess Sga can't be bothered to clear up (Unless they try to do so in Rush Adventure where they wil probably end up making it worse).
It's like "The History of Shadow: Part Deux".

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected - definitely a whole heap more than StH06, and at times more than Secret Rings (which sometimes I love and sometimes I despise). I'm one of the few who thinks that the game is better off for the 'race your rival' idea. I feel that without your rival constantly on your heels (and he is) it'd just be Sonic Advance PSP, really. Rush manages to be fun using the typical 'just complete the stage, try to get a good time if you want' thing, but I don't think Rivals would. I like having someone trying to beat you.
Rivals also has really nice presentation - slick menus, enemies with a bit of personality (I love the sounds they make), a nice looking bunch of specially-made CG images of the characters, decent music and the card collection (though it'd be nice if you could view the cards magnified).
I'm happy about a sequel, but it feels a bit soon.
I just hate the whole concept of that! I want my game to be madde for single player first and multiplayer second! Rivals isn't one of these cases! It seems that the entire game was focused around two player races leaving any single player very shallow!
Hear hear. o.o
I have issues with being forced to compete directly with the AI in a platformer when all I want to do is complete the stage at my own pace. Save that kind of stuff for boss battles, I say.
They could have both. After unlocking the stage, "time attack" would come up. That's where the rival wouldn't appear, who would only be in Story Mode and Multiplayer.
Makes sence.
Why not have time attack where you are racing an oppononet and leave him out of story! Now that makes sense!
What story would that be then?
That's like taking the heart and soul out of Sonic Rivals and giving it a kinkereigouber of epic proportions.
And trust me, you don't want a kinkereigouber.
I suppose you're right. I guess time attack at your own pace would be a very good thing then! It would certainly blow the other out of the water!
Aside from the point of a Time Attack mode being to complete the level as fast as possible. From reading this topic that seems to be the very point of the whole game.
It needed a Mosey mode.

Fear not Magikoopa. Something HAS shown up!
I call a fake. The logo for Riders 2 keeps changing on the "covers".
The boxes are not even plagued with new and useless characters. This is being passed off as real???
The box art may be fake, but Riders 2 finally has a release date. At least that's something. It's confirmed.

source plz
Yeah. No reliable source--fake.
Didn't the creator of Riders said there was going to be a sequel?
Talk is cheap. There's been no concrete proof that that sentence has been followed up on.
New playable characters include: Silver the Hedgehog, Tikal, and CRABMEAT!!!
And the first boss of Sonic Chaos.
Playing as the little badniks would be fun. @ Crabmeat
Look like Tails is finally playable.
Edit- More stuff including CG artwork. Also there seems to be 2 new characters, a free play mode(yes!) and the story about Chao dissapearing.
Well, that's another one for my PSP library.
Indeed! And to get it out of the way, even though I don't care: Oh, no, not new characters!!!
Those CGI models are sorta ugly.
Also, this game sold well enough for a sequel?
Well I get the feeling we'll be getting quite a few Sonic spinoffs for the next year or so. Maybe he'll turn into Mario...feature in a plethora of spinoff type games then have a game that relates to the story and all that jazz every so few years. I hope so.
