I meant that in the Japanese Emerl's writen dialogue is odd, in Katana instead of normal Japanese or something (See the GHZ's article on SB, GG explains it better). It was impossible to translate into English. Are you talking about Sonic X?

Yeah. Emerl spoke exclusively in Katakana, which is the text usually reserved for foreign words (for instance, Sonic - "Sonikku" - would be written in Katakana). I think that was just a way of emphasizing his "difference" though, similar to if they had made Midna speak in Katakana in Twilight Princess.

Well, I think the katakana indicates that his speech sounds artificial, robotic.
I think one widely used method to portray that in english is to write all in caps and/or using "-" between words or syllables.

That's sort of funny, because when the language is switched to English in Sonic Battle, his speech was normal after he learned to talk, despite being a robot.

The official site is now up.

-Marine is from Southern Island.
-Marine talks a lot. I'd say she's like Goo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
-Blaze returns because she's investigating the news about thieves.

Blaze's profile says she is from an alternate universe.
So the first Rush wasn't kicked out of canon after all. =D
There's still the talk about her throwing off her cape to defeat strong enemies though.

Also you as Sonic must collect material for Tails to build ships.

The little map with the 5 islands looks quite neat. I'm looking forward to this game. :)

I see an island with giant mushrooms...about bloody time. Mushroom Hill was one of my favorite levels ever. Also the ice level gives off Ice Cap vibes...probably just me as all ice zones are alike. So uhhh...with Marine be replacing Cream for good now or what?

I dunno, Marine seems to have a different personality than Cream alltogether from the little snippets we get in the character pages of the official site.

arr, sonic is riding the plane normally instead of freestyling up top. from the story and character pages, i get the impression that they've scrapped blaze's character development so you "unlock the mystery" by yourself. if so, i'll be disappointed. the skeletons are awesome though.

I got that same vibe, too, Torn. So, does that mean that the Blaze from Rush and the Blaze from 06 are too completely separate individuals or is the theory that Blaze's dimension is the one she went to in 06 correct?

Sonic '06 makes absolutley no sense.

Spoilers (Select To Read):
-Why did Silver give Elise a Chaos Emerald in the past?
-If the events didn't actually happen, then Blaze being sent to wherever'sville also didn't happen?
-Before it didn't become conical, at what point did it happen?
-Why does Blaze know about the Chaos Emeralds?
-Where are the Sol Emeralds?

All of these just makes things confusing. I'll wait until Rush 2 gives explinations about all this.

More talk about the US site here.

Marine's Aussie accent just killed this game for me. o_O

Same here*, Matt. I've always maintained that accents are 4Kids darkest sins, so that combined with the fact that she apparently talks a lot (gawd, didn't Tails and Cream do that enough already in the previous game? They also had to use Sonic/Blaze's name in every single sentence, too) with the added bonus of stereotypical australian-isms. They don't even have raccoons in Australia.

I like Whisker, but I've disliked Marine ever since I set eyes on her. It's a first for me. I was initially underwhelmed by Blaze and the Babylon Rogues, but warmed up to them and grew to like them in time (especially Blaze). I originally thought Silver was truly weird to look at, and it stills bugs me a bit that he's not a porcupine, but I like him a lot as a character, and now I think he looks interesting. But Marine.. ugh, I hate the blaring, cluttered design, and her accent and quotes have transformed my dislike into fully fledged hate. I also hate that the mouse(?) NPC character appears to have dot eyes, and Johnny (what kind of a name is that for a robot?) still looks pretty screwy.

Normally I draw new characters a few days after their unveiling - it's fun. Despite his initially jarring appearance, it was only a day or two before I was doodling Silver. Four months on and I finally draw Marine - and it's a picture of her in a jaw trap XD

*Okay, so as a game Rush Adventure still looks good to me, and I am eager to give it a try, but the characters have certainly soured it a bit.

^ Marine's accent was determined by the way her dialogue was written, not spoken.

Marine has a weird accent in the japanese version, too.

Translated from the Famitsu scans:

Quote:

A Raccoon brimming with curiosity who lives in Windmill Town. She has a strong yearning and interest for adventure. Why does she speak in Kansai (region around Tokyo and Osaka) dialect?

Hmm, I actually like Marine so far. The whole ship obsession is kind of cool and I like the accent.

However, she should be a one-shot. And WHY doesn't she have mad tanuki skillz, huh? Or even ear propellers? Come on, she should have something crazy like good Sonic characters do.

Thanks for the pics, Vlad. Awesome si...wait...

The shot with Blaze in it looks like it will be a fun section, and it looks like we'll be racing Johnny for the emeralds. I wonder if they'll put them in in colour-collection* order this time? ...Naaah.

Also:

I have no idea why I like this shot so much.

*Red-Yellow-Green-Cyan-Blue-Magenta-White. White going between green and cyan is passable but still not the Real McCoy. Everything else is deceitful falsehood and should be punishable by white hot electrically charged crystalline imaplement. Recently it's usually just been a matter of swapping the white around with one of the latter colours but simultaneously mixing the two blues up.

Nope, DiMPS and Sega had a falling out. My biggest fear for this game was that with Sonic Team in charge it'd lack the awesome of Rush.

Checked Wiki and it may be SoA in charge.

I thought something looked off. Normally, the DS is only capable of displaying 3D environments on ONE screen. Did the development team (umm, whoever they are) find a way around that or is there some clever programmer trick involved here?

A raccoon with a possibly Australian accent... what the heck were they smoking when they thought that one up.

Of course, I hope that's the only thing that will really irk me about Marine. Likeable character otherwise...

At least, until I get my hands on the game and really judge for myself. XP

Because a blue hedgehog moving at the speed of sound by foot is just mundane compared to a raccoon with an accent. Or a two-tailed fox able to fly and build complex machines at age eight. Or a time/dimension-hopping purple pyrokinetic cat of royal blood who watches over a set of colourful gems. Or an immortal, amoral genetically-engineered hedgehog/alien hybrid awakened from cryogenic sleep able to stop time, fire energy and distort space while uncovering his past (plagued by false memories), avenging a dead girl and working as a special government agent on rocket shoes.

Yeah, a raccoon with an accent. They've really gone nuts with this one.

Just read the Nintendo Power preview. Most interesting.

You can roam the island in 3-D finding shops and talking to others.

The bonus stages are not in the action levels, but rather hidden on parts of the island. There are also other hidden levels on the island as well.

You can make 5 different boats in all. The parts you get for your boats depends on how good a grade you get on each level. If you get a bad grade, you may need to repeat a level once or twice.

Someone from the NeoGAF forums just played through about 1/4 of the game, and gave his review of what happened so far. Contains some spoilerish elements.

The Good
The levels themselves are pretty much just like in Sonic Rush, so fun to play, fast, and exciting. It feels like they're slightly easier, which in my opinion is good, as I found the original Rush to be a little unforgivingly hard sometimes. The levels are well-designed, and with good timing in your jumps you can blaze through them.

I think a lot of people were worried that the 3D-parts shown would be horrible to play, but they're pretty much like the 3D-levels in Sonic Rush. Furthermore, you only have to play them once to reach a level: after that, you can select a level from the menu to go there instantly, should you wish.

The Bad
The music. I really liked the music in Sonic Rush, which makes the music in Adventure very disappointing. It's not horrible per se, but it just isn't memorable either. Such a shame.

You're forced to replay the levels. Tails needs all kind of metals, and you only get them by finishing a level. The better your ranking, the more metals you get. Which means that, should you score something like a C, you'll have to keep replaying a level until Tails has enough metals to build the next machine needed to advance to new levels.

The Ugly
Part of the reason I liked the original Sonic Rush was because there wasn't too much of a story. Blaze was a reasonably good new character, and there was only a little bit of text before and after a level. Sonic Team USA apparently didn't get the memo that more story =/= a better game, which means that Adventure features loads of sucky friends. There's the usual: Sonic, Tails, Blaze.

But then there's Marine, some stupid character with an Australian accent. She serves no purpose other then annoying you: everytime before you enter a level there's a scene with Sonic, Tails, and Marine, where Marine talks though, claiming she's captain, Sonic and Tails saying she isn't, and that she should be careful, and then she runs off anyway. Seriously: this happens before every level. She also has a dozen friends who all look the same and talk the same, and they give you extra missions. They're not bad, but I also don't need them. Which makes it all the better that you can skip cut-scenes with Start.

So yeah, the gaming part of Sonic Rush Adventure feels great. It's pretty much the same as the original, the levels are neatly designed, the 3D-parts aren't awful, Sonic Team USA did good on this part. But in the end, I feel Adventure isn't as fun as the original. The music isn't memorable, and I really don't like the story-parts. If you liked Sonic Rush, there's no reason not to buy Adventure. If you didn't buy Sonic Rush, you should do so now, and then play Adventure when you're done with it.

Story:
Spoilers (Select To Read): Sonic and Tails get sucked into some vortex and travel to another dimension. By the second or third world or so Blaze catches up with you, and apparently this is her dimension. The captain is like, her version of Eggman.

So this means Whiskers and Johnny are Dr.Eggman and Metal Sonic counterpart, also Sonic and Tails end up in Blaze dimension.
So this means that Eggman Nega and Silver are from the future and not Blaze dimension.

I know you left a note about it at the top of your post, but I think this snippet is just big enough to fit inside a spoiler tag. ~ HSW
