It feels like they're slightly easier, which in my opinion is good, as I found the original Rush to be a little unforgivingly hard sometimes.
I could get through Rush which means it is extremely easy. *no patience*
I hope by easier he means not the usual post-Advance set up. "Oh neat, a branching path. I wonder what-" drops off screen*...

You're forced to replay the levels. Tails needs all kind of metals, and you only get them by finishing a level. The better your ranking, the more metals you get. Which means that, should you score something like a C, you'll have to keep replaying a level until Tails has enough metals to build the next machine needed to advance to new levels.
This right here sounds quite lame.
There's a video of a full level run-through and boss battle on IGN.
I'm starting to think that's not Naganuma's music, but rather they're copying his style. I hope that's not the case.

Considering I'd be replaying the levels regardless, getting something out of it in the end sounds pretty nice to me.
Toby, I like to replay Sonic levels but only on my own terms. I don't like to be forced to replay them until I get a better score in order to move one to the next level. It sounds like another stupid design choice that seems to be the norm with this series nowadays--ex. taking more than one hit to kill an enemy.
And Shig, Naganuma wasn't listed as a composer based on that neoGAFer's impressions. =(
I want to know what endings are going to be like for Sonic Rush Adventure? What happens if I get all Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Rush Adventure? Where can I get all the Chaos Emeralds in and do I have to race against Johnny to win a Chaos Emerald? What are the bosses names in Plant Kingdom, Machine Labyrinth, Coral Cave, Haunted Ship, Blizzard Peaks, Sky Babylon, Pirates Island, and Deep Core? Will Super Sonic be in Sonic Rush Adventure? Thank you.
Jonny
I'll just pop in my copy of the game and let you know.
I don't also mind the aspect of having to replay levels until you get it right. I mean...after your third run through, you should be good, right? I guess it kind of gives you an objective other than get through the level. I mean that's fun and all but sometimes it's better to have a purpose for doing so.
Man I hope that Mushroom level is good...
^But what if you get to a level you truly despised? There were a few levels in Sonic games over the years where I found to be unfun and couldn't wait to get over it so I can play another level I would enjoy.
It sounds like an artificial way to lengthen the game and, I could see myself getting easily bored with it. =/
Official Nintendo Magazine gave the game 92% and its Gold Award, for perspective it gave the previous Rush 90%.
Here's the summery:

A consummate Sonic Experience, reminding us exactly why the blue blur was great in the first place - plus it's got tons of replay value tucked inside. Great Job, Sega.
EGM gave it three 7.5's all around. They loved the action and boss stages, but felt the "Adventure" part such as exploring the world and Watercraft mini-games slowed down the pace too much.
On these new screenshots, you can find another new animal with horns:
Grr! I really need a DSL. ='(

At the end of each platform segment, you're awarded a quantity of a certain material type, depending on your performance and final grade. These are important as Tails uses materials to build your boat roster, enabling access more distant islands in the game. Admittedly, when we first came across this mechanic, we were fearful we'd be subjected to endless retreads of the same levels again and again. However, somehow, it works - partly because levels are just plain entertaining and partly because it forces you to hone your skills ready for time trials, online play and missions later. Thankfully, the game keeps required material amounts sensible and makes proceedings painless by enabling instant access to any level once completed.
You know, the things mentioned in this review seem awfully nice!
Also they say that the amounts of deaths due to bottomless pits and blind jumps has decreased and there are some new jump moves that help with that.
A 9.0 from IGN? GREAT! Maybe Secret Rings was the game to finally get the series back on track; if the other games, and Sonic RPG I'm looking at you, can get good reviews, then Sonic Team and Sonic maybe back!
I wouldn't count on it, Ray. =/
I'd be more conscerned with the crapometer in our brains than the IGN ratings.
Mine hasn't worked in years.
Just to double check, it's only Sonic and Blaze that are playable, right? At least as far as we know?
Yeah, we're positive about that.
I pre-ordered it today with free{laggard} delivery. I wonder how late it'll arrive.

Except that previous 2D Sonic handheld games recieved nearly the same score, and this game--along with previous ones has been confirmed to be made by DIMPS.
This game really doesn't change a thing about Sonic Team(or Sonic for that matter).

So long as Dimps keeps making them then Sonic's saved for me, anything other than that and BioWare is dead to me right now.
I thought DIMPS and Sega had a lover's spat and this one is being made my Sega Tech?
Either way, I'm happy to see positive reactions and alot of my minor niggles with Rush (character screen during boss battle, for instance) seems to be gone.
If they can add an airdash feature (like the one shown in the E3 demos of Sonic Rush) I'll be the happiest Sonic fan in the eververse.
Either way, I dropped my 18 for it today, will expect it within the fortnight, then I can play that obsessively while I wait for Scrubs, Heroes, Sarah Connor, Reaper, IT Crown (US version) and the rest of the fall line up to download each week >>;
...and be done within a week before Zelda and Megaman ZX Advent arrive...
Damned non-movie entertainment industry! Stop monopolising my life!

That sounds horrible to be required for first playthru. I mean, that's what we all did for emblems in SA2, but you should just be able to wing it.
You brits are getting it before us yanks?!
That's not fair, you brits are supposed to wait MONTHS before us yanks when video games come out.
Yea, I know it's less than a week.
Wow... I guess we are. Comes out in 3 days here.
Still importing from the US, though. Why pay 20 extra for only 4 days more gameplay.
Catchy tune. Wish I could understand what the singer was singing. Also I notice there were no voices during the cut scene. Wonder what that about?
I hope to clouds the song is in Japanese so I don't ever know the words.
Yay! The Tornado (1) is back! I was getting tired of the butt ugly purple Cyclone models.
For some reason I LOLed at Marine poking unconscious Sonic with a stick.

Back long enough to be shredded; it's in pieces all over the beach. =O
Also, stick = win XD
Bought it today with a snazzy new DS Lite and I havent had this much buzz off a new Sonic game since SA2 came out on the Dreamcast.
The game, actual game, zips along at amazing speed. Sonic is fact, well controlled, snazzy and exciting. The levels are fairly varied, large, colourful and lovely. As IGN said, the plot drags REALLY slowly. Marine, (I think the series first AUSTRALIAN!!!!) is really excited, irritating and at the start of the game is all about Sonic and Tails worrying about her.
Its just a shame for a game that runs at such a fast speed, when the levels zip by at amazing speed and the mini games are so well integrated, that the plot drags so badly. That said, Im only half way through it, and hopefully things are picking up
Its a good game, sort of what Sonic Advance 2 would have been if it had been done right. Theres loads to do, the mini games are actually fun, the boating is actually well handled. Presentation is great. My only gripe AT ALL, is that the story drags
So, thumbs up from me, whos been rather disenchanted since Shadow came out. Although, I can't give a full review because i'm forcing myself to save the game for a long car journey back to Uni.
Gah, I can't edit the last post, and I don't know why. Perhaps because i haven't been on Ezboard properly for ages....
But i'd like to clarify. Marine isn't annoying herself, but there's too much of her. Everything she says (which is a lot) is then clarified by Tails, along with exasperation from both Sonic and Tails as they try to understand what she's saying...
The Australian banter would be cute if it went unremarked on by the others, but the continuous sighs of 'man, she's hopeless' get repetitive after a while...
All said and done though, complaining about that REALLY is a minor gripe when the game is this well handled in every other aspect.
Done everything but S ranks for non-hidden islands{may have missed some, i've found 1-16} and about 80 of the missions. Overall I think it's a little better than Rush 1 due to more varied and more plentiful content, but individual taste will be a factor. Some won't like the boat bits, some won't like the island stuff, the races, etc.
Marine isn't annoying herself, but there's too much of her.
Spot on. She gets too much airtime.
Going into a slightly more detailed comparison: There are less cheap deaths, there's more variance/uniqueness among the bosses and the character you choose makes a little bit more difference. Blaze's ^R is handier than before{still identical though - they're both exactly the same as far as I can tell} and there is also fire littered around that she's immune to.
Sky Babylon is just like Altitude Limit - sky level with a difficulty spike, more rails than usual, instant death lasers, flying things you have to use to rise & avoid walls with and a difficult boss.
The last level is no Dead Line but is awesome in it's own way. The music in general isn't as good but I actually had to stop and think about that. I didn't notice at all while I was playing.
The hidden islands are pretty short, kind of like the X zone things in Rush's time trial but not as sucky. They're either very easy or very hard and are all a piece of cake to S-rank. One of them remind me of Leaf Storm. Actually, screw that - it IS Leaf Storm. It's like an entire half of one of the acts, completely intact sans cosmetics.
I'm going to try and get everything else done as quick as I can{whyyy}, but I'm pretty confident there'll be no reward for it besides the decorations. ...oh, I didn't mention those. Some of the NPC guys decorate the main island in exchange for mission completions, materials or rings. I think it's solely cosmetic.
Let's see..what else..ah, the boat sections. I love using the water bike but everything else can @#%$ off. The submarine bits remind me of EBA and Virtua Cop at the same time which is pretty weird.
The Chaos Emerald races are better than Rush's special stages, I feel. The last ones are absolute monsters if you don't upgrade. Speaking of which, I didn't have to replay a level for a while and when I did - even when upgrading all the boats twice in a row - it didn't bother me. This is partly because I took it as a step towards S-ranking, though.
This post seems a little messy to me and a few of the things I talked about are probably already known, but I'd like to be in bed before 3am, so...
ps at the start of the ice level you get tiny spoiler: a snowboard. also, the invincible tune is a sped-up version of the music to the zone you're in. kind of like the speed shoes...of which i have seen nary a speckle. wouldn't be a stretch to assume there aren't any - they don't have much of a function in the Rush games anyway.
Well, I'm hearing alot of positive feedback about the game, and alot of negative feedback about the stupid rank = progression system that they have going.
Fingers crossed my copy will arrive in the UK within 10 days, otherwise Kitty's gonna have to choke a fool...
I must say, the intro looks interesting. ^^
I'll have to reserve my own judgement on this game until I'm able to get it, whether it be a month or (in the case of Sonic Rush) 2 years.
I'm always behind the times that way. XD
Edit: Fixed sentence.
Well until I purchase a DSL I won't have this...so that may well be over a few years. But I might get this before I even have the system just because. If I find it really cheap or something and I still don't have a DSL. I'm not really sure what i'm talking about. o_(0)
Wait, it's already out? College has warped my perception of time, lol.
Out in the US as of 9/18/07! Which is today!
Hmmm...I should go snag me a copy tomorrow...

Then there're the submarine sections which are, to all intents and purposely, Elite Beat Agents without the music.
So true. I half-expected the Agents to pop out and start dancing to the game's soundtrack.
Spoilers (Select To Read): So I hear Marine has water powers? Apparently she throws a giant water bubble that completely stops Eggman and Eggman Nega in their tracks (yes, Eggman Nega comes back, and is working with Eggman, as if Sonic Rivals never happened.)
Spoilers (Select To Read): Not exactly. A tiny green ball darts from the right of the screen and makes them flinch and turn to her. She's shown with an aura around her hand. Sonic & Blaze proceed to vanish from sight and kick ass, which they could have done anyway. They should have left her as a useless nuisance, if you ask me. While I'm at it, I may as well complain about the amount of exposure she gets again.
wah wah marine gets too much limelight
Seriously, they should've called it "Sonic Rush Marine". I'm going from liking, to hating her real fast. Sega always likes putting in a personailty trait in thier characters, but what kind of trait is "annoying"? It's really the only one that can describe her. It's like this, think about the best way to describle certain Sonic characters.
Sonic - Confident
Knuckles - Gullible
Tails - Smart
Big - Stupid
Amy - Obssesive-compulsive
Rouge - Greedy, flirtatious
Shadow - Angry
Cream - Polite
Blaze - Withdrawn
Marine - Annoying
It's too bad Naganuma isn't doing the music, but to my suprise, it's still very good. Errr.. except that fruity title song.
Most reviewers are right though, it DOES feel padded, and is not as good as the first. The action stages feel a little shorter to me, but it could be because I'm not falling into a pit. I do like the sailing levels, but I wish there was just less of that to do. Blaze feels almost unessesary and tacked on, as you can choose to re-do a stage as either Sonic or Blaze.
All-in-all though, it's still a very fun game and a worthy Sonic title.
Can you please give all the tips of how to unlock the hidden islands, upgrade the four boats, another upgrade on four boats, 100 missions, Johnny on the island maps for 7 Chaos Emeralds, islands for Blizzard Peak, Sky Babylon, Pirates Island, Big Swell, Deep Core? Does Blaze have the story after I complete Sonic The Hedgehog in Sonic Rush Adventure?
Jonny
You're basically asking someone to write an entire game guide just for you on a message board. Tried looking around for your answers at all?

You start as Sonic. After playing past a certain point, Blaze becomes available. For all intents and purposes they share the same story mode. You can switch between them during regular acts. Whom you finish a stage/boss with has no bearing on the story.
As for Marine: I have no strong feelings either way.
