Surprised nobody stole this off the GHZ yet. Thanks to big smile for the info.
"Sonic Rush trademark
Mysterious new Sonic title appears on US patent website
Sega have filed a patent for the name Sonic Rush. Unlike their recent registration for Sonic Gems Collection, a logo does not accompany the application. Nothing else is known about the title, but it is most likely to make an appearance at the upcoming E3."

Any thoughts? By the way, anyone who cries "hoax" can take a running jump into a jet engine.
The first thing that springs to mind is a sequel to Sonic R, but with all the controversy a week or two back, it's probably not. I suppose it could just be the name of the new DS game I suppose.
Either way, Sonic Team's really rolling out the games this year eh?
I hope it means something like this:
Sonic Rush. That would be so sw33t!
Actually, we did. See the Sonic R Xtreme topic.
I'll let it live for now, though.
Yeah, just saw that. I figure if it's shown at E3 then we should have a separate topic for it, though. Here's hoping.
Sounds like.... Sonic PSP, possibly?
I know they're doing one.
GameSpot said that rumor was Bogus, actually. So, while it's possible, it's not fact.
What about Sonic R for the DS?
Do you mean Sonic R Xtreme? For one, that was a mistake by Sega, so it actually isn't in development. Also, it wasn't announced for the DS. However, there still is a Sonic game for the DS in the works, called Sonic DS to look forward to.
*prays that Sonic Rush is a sequel to Sonic R*
Either way, Sonic Team's really rolling out the games this year eh?
That would be a bad thing. They can barely make one good game at a time, let alone two.
Now now...let's not jump on their backs so early in the year.
I always had this thought that since Sega merged together with all their development groups they had different teams working on a certain project, so each team can focus on a certain title.
It's the sequel to Tails and the Music Maker. It tells the tale of Sonic's journy to the year 2112, meeting a canadian prog-rock band.

Team Sonic Vs Team Rush? I'd love to see that.
Perhaps you play as Sonic, drinking fizzy drinks until the sugar gives you a RUSH!
Get the gimmick?, obviously it'll involve rubbing the DS screen over and over...

Screenshots of the game, for the first time ever, I beat someone to it! =D
Who's the purple cat person? O_o
The graphics kinda remind me of G Sonic... Uh... Not saying anything instantly, but... I hope that's not the final Sonic sprite. O_O The backgrounds look like a really impressive Advance style! =D
Holy crap, that game looks so damn sexy. 2.5d and like S3&K... Oh, I'm in love!
*Swoons*
Badniks look a bit shotty, i dont know what to expect from this game...
OH MY GED!

FEMALE CROTCH ALERT!
A Sonic Female with exposed crotch! The world will stop moving! Why is Sega peddling filth?! Is this their edgier mature nature shining through? WONT SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!?
(Ok... they might be trousers. But I want to corrupt the world)
Uh, cat's name is Blaze the cat. Dang, they keep updating like crazy... I might find another Sonic game before the day's up. O_o

Preview, still reading, prolly get in trouble for putting too many messages, BUT DON'T CARE! =D
maybe its more mature than previously though and thats a guy kitty thats been fixed...
Certainly dfferent from the demo we saw at E3 last year. I fear how the touch screen could be implemented into this though. o_O
I think the best part of this is that incredibely nice looking "Q3 2005" release date, nice.

Great. Another new character.
Couldn't we have put an existing character to use with just as much success?
Other than that, nifty-looking game.
I hope Blaze has her own unique skills different from Sonic, as in her own abilities that separates her from the rest of the cast, not having similar traits to them. Otherwise, they should've just used an existing character instead of creating a new one.
Though even if she does, I would have still preferred someone such as Knuckles and Tails over her, we have enough characters, old and new, as it is.
I do like her design, however.
*shakes head* Yet another. I'll admit Blaze looks mighty cool, and could spark someone's love interest(considering her age). I wonder who will she be close friends with. Oh what am I talking about...the game's first screens have been released today, who's to know?(Semi-Hype) Anywho, the 2.5D is indeed sexy, I just wonder how it will be when finished.
Eh, it's the opposite of what I was hoping for. It just seems odd to use a three-dimensional model over a 2D backdrop in a Sonic game. It works for games like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7 through 9 because one can use a variety of different angles to present the next scene.
Classic Sonic 2D backgrounds don't scene change, they scroll. A lot. The technology would have been served far better by employing the levels themselves into 3D and keeping Sonic (and Blaze) as fluidly-animated sprites.
This game looks ugly for the exact same reasons as that new 2D Mario game. 3D characters on bland 2D backdrops look horribly out of place, stiff, poorly animated and awkward. Whoever said it looks like G Sonic is right, and G Sonic is quite possibly the worst Sonic game ever.
Why couldn't they have gone with vibrant, well animated 2D character sprites and overall visual scheme? This is Sonic the Hedgehog, 2D artwork suits him best, especially in 2D games.
I wish more developers would be proud and embrace 2D to its fullest.
The style they've gone for here adds absolutely nothing. It just makes it ugly. Same with the Mario game.
I hope that Blaze is a villain, there's already more than enough hero characters.
From the article it sounds as though there's a chance of the multiple character play being implemented properly this time - with Sonic and Blaze's different abilities allowing them to access different parts of the levels. But that's just hopeful speculation.
I like lavender, but so far, Blaze's design scares me more then impresses me, plus I find the name "Blaze" to be truly uninspiring and kinda lame. And a cat? I'm sorry, I thought we already had Big...then again, Amy and Shadow are both hedgehog. *sigh*

in all honesty, G sonic was not really the worst sonic game, it had issues on loops, it had weird acceloration speed i would rank labrynth a knock under it though. The only big issues in it were the dismal graphics, badniks were about a 1/4 scale of sonic/knuckles, eggman had cheezy weird looking machines he flew in, and the sprites for the ground, trees, hills etc... well you understand and have most likely played it.
I agree though. The graphics are good however they dont mix well, the backgrounds are actually very nice, and i love the textures. But it does look like a Sonic Shuffle sprite minus the cell-shading, and there is no reason to do a 3d sprite when the backgrounds look like a mix between advance series and sonic and knuckles.

Looks like her fur to me. Weird, though, every SegaSonic female character up to this point wore pants or dresses...but not this one.
I like her, though. "Blaze" is a little unoriginal name, yes, but at least we finally got a cat character that isn't so fat and large. o.o;
I LOVE the look of this game as well as the New Mario Bros. Using 3D models in these 2D games is awesome to me. This 3D Sonic looks so much better than the Avance versions and it doesn't look out of place at all to me. I was never excited about any Sonic Advance, but because of the look of this Sonic and how the 2 screens are used to give you a bigger view I can't wait for it.
I'm not too bothered by the 3D character in a 2D world, but it'd be much better if he wasn't so flat-shaded, and dark at that.

Her fur isn't white though, it's purple.
Anyway, personally, I'd rather the game was completely 3D in design but played like the 2D games, much like Viewtiful Joe, only not cel-shaded, that way the backgrounds and characters wouldn't look out of place and it'd be easier to animate the scenary, making the world look alive was something S3&K did remakabley well, I'd like that feeling to return.
As for Blaze, I like the design, the name is a bit dull, still, I hope she is a bad guy but is still playable, with a unique gameplay style too, also someone who remains a bad guy.
You know looking at Blaze pic she looks like a female version of Shadow.I mean look at her face and pose they do resemble Shadow's. So, anyone know what the Sol Emeralds do. I know Sol means sun in spanish .
yup. sol means sun in espanol. meaning that these emeralds are actually called "Sun Emeralds".
anyway, here's what gamespot had ta say about this game:
The Sonic the Hedgehog series has gone all over the place since games went 3D. Sonic Adventure sort of took the game away from its high-speed roots, though Sonic Heroes certainly delivered its own take on Sonic's fast-moving antics. But still, there's something to be said for the classics. Sonic Rush appears to be on that classic track, delivering the high-speed side-scrolling 2D that the early games in the series is known for. But by taking advantage of the Nintendo DS's dual screens, Sonic Rush is definitely a new spin on an old favorite.
Sonic Rush puts you in the roles of Sonic the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat as they run real fast and attempt to recover the sol emeralds. Blaze isn't playable in the short demo being shown at E3, but she'll have her own separate adventure that, of course, often crosses paths with Sonic's.
The E3 demo of Sonic Rush contains one level and one boss fight. The level is designed with the same sort of grassy, hilly terrain you've come to expect from the first world of a Sonic game. The gameplay hasn't changed all that much, so you're still running as fast as you possibly can, occasionally rolling up into a ball to jack up your enemies by either blasting right through them or jumping on their heads. The game lets you bust out a double jump by hitting the right trigger when in midair, which lets you clear longer gaps. You can also execute the standard Sonic spindash by holding down and hitting the jump button. Another new feature is a meter that lives on the left side of the screen. When it's full, you can activate a rush mode that effectively makes you unstoppable for a brief period of time.
The game uses the two screens of the DS to give you a taller view of the action. You'll be jumping up to get to platforms on the upper screen and falling down to move down below numerous times in each level. This is a pretty cool use of the screens, which really makes the game feel larger and more frantic. The boss fight we saw in the brief demo at E3 takes place on one screen, and it takes on a more polygonal look. Sonic is limited to a small platform in this fight, which pits him against a large, hammerheaded snakelike creature. The polygonal snake moves around in the background, sizing you up for his eventual attack, which is an attempt to crush poor Sonic with his big hammerhead. It's your job to get the heck out of the way and then jump on top of the head to damage the boss. When you do this three times, the game cuts to some quick alternate camera angles of the final strike. The whole game has a pretty cool look to it and makes good use of polygons in both the Sonic player model and the boss character.
In addition, the game doesn't seem to use the touch screen at all, but we wouldn't be surprised if the final version of the game ended up including some sort of stylus support. That final version is currently scheduled to be available for the Nintendo DS this fall.
Yeah, I read that a while ago and got the "Sol" connection at that time too. The only question is, is it a typo, or something new?
If anyone understands Japanese, the Sonic Team website has been updated to reflect the E3 stuff. Including, Sonic Rush, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Gems Collection, Phantasy Star Universe and Fifth Phantom Saga. www.sonicteam.com
I can't stand her design...ack it's so bland and sorry. Her name is also highly unoriginal but maybe she's a villain...hopefully with that scowl...
Those graphics...bite...but I might buy the DS (Yes again) and give it a shot...
Blaze. I like and dislike.
Like: May be a villain (STAY EVIL!!), fairly different looking, new female character (a threatening looking one at that), shoe color
Dislike: Shoe design, unoriginal name, while different - not hugely impressive in design
That's just my personal opinion.
Hmm. Another purple character. I want Fang to return, and he and Espio are purple. They're all different shades of purple (pink-purple, violet, dark purple), they might look interesting together.
Quote:
Her fur isn't white though, it's purple.
Her head and tail is purple, but her arm color is unknown.
Besides, her legs look too "Sonic-sized" to me. So I think it IS her fur.
Well, according to the E3 site, Blaze...is a queen from another dimension. 2 Dimensions = 2 Eggmen, perhaps? Hey, it can be possible.
Hmm. This purple cat, "Blaze," has feathers behind her head. Wow, Sega's trying out a new species of evolved mobosaphiens, whatever they are called: A birdcat!
EE
Oh great, more new characters. What a surprise. As if the story wasn't complicated enough already.
I hope she becomes a villain. A heartless, sadistic, ruthless villain who doesn't become good at the end. Sonic series needs more villains, because, let's see...
-Eggman is like the only remaining true villain, filling the megalomaniacal villain quotient.
-Knuckles obviously isn't a villain.
-Fang seems to have hung up his hat and gun, perhaps... permanently...
-Metal seems to be mainly out of commission, except for Sonic Heroes (obviously), where he seems more like a deadly rival than a real villain, but still I'm considering him a villain. (Makes up for the passionate villain)
-The E-series perished, but Gamma was an awesomely done villain-to-hero conversion anyways.
-Zero isn't much of a threat at all, and has no personality anyways.
-Chaos doesn't seem to be a threat anymore.
-The Biolizard is fried.
-Omega sucks. Besides, he's going against Eggman.
-Shadow is more or less chaotic now, a rogue.
-Rouge is more of a mercenary.
So my first point? Sonic needs a new villain. Seeing as how Blaze looks rather intimidating, hopefully she'll be it. As of now, we only have 2 true villains, one of whom, knowing Sonic Team, may never appear again. And we have what, 20 heroes? We don't need any more until they get all they can out of some old ones.
Besides, Eggman is the dominating conqueror, Metal is the defiant warrior with the narrow mind, I'm sure we could use somebody sadistic to fight on Sonic's level.
Another thing is: Lack of female characters. Unless I missed something, we have Cream, Amy, Tikal, and Rouge. A kid, a teen, one character who is more or less dead, and one mature character, a seductive agent. Blaze looks like a mature character, and also a mean one at that. I think the Sonic story not only needs more villains, but at least a few more females.
But anyways, I'm ranting now. That is why I think that even though adding new characters isn't the best idea, I think it'd be awesome if she were a villain, and wouldn't mind the new addition at all.

-Zero isn't much of a threat at all, and has no personality anyways.
zero...drive hammered, get BLOWED UP.... *safe driving this prom season*
Sorry to disappoint people in the "Evil Blaze" camp, but...

Yes! From Sega's E3 Site for Sonic Rush:

A new arch nemesis threatens the world. Dr. Eggman times two! Beware!
Oh so she's a good girl from another dimension? Oh no. And these Sol emeralds...are they serious. There was enough speculation with whether or not the Super Emeralds existed or not...now these new Sol emeralds come into play. Aye Aye Aye.
