* Tear rolls silently down cheek. *

But wait! Maybe, just maybe, they just said that because she's playable alongside the hero character! ;_; Please say it's just a poor choice of words! nooooooo! ;_;

Hmmm, since they're is a new dimension, I bet the Sol Emeralds are this dimension's version of Chaos Emeralds and Blaze maybe be the thorn in the side of the Eggman of that universe.

I wish I knew why everyone's getting so uptight about it having a different dimension..is the Little Planet in SCD really any different?
If this means a return to the sci-fi feel of Sonic CD, I'm all for it.

Blaze being a queen from an alternate dimension, "double the Eggman"

I think you're right, now I'd like to watch all the Archie and SatAM fans' heads sizzle in rage that they use a story which is practically them all over and create a new character for it :D

Any vague and silly hopes be dashed all over the floor. Just remember what the doormouse said

I'LL MEET YOU HALF-WAY YOU FRICKIN' HIPPIES!

^_^

Anywho, I find it hard to measure how excited I am about this, because it's the only one of the three super releases which I need to buy a new console for. But, it does look supremely good.

*Wonders how long it's been since Sega gave him so much to salivate over*

Since the days of S3, S&K and Lock-On technology?

So, in theory, is Blaze the alternate universe version of Big that's actually cool?

And maybe it's just me, or was anyone else thinking of (by name) Blaze from Streets of Rage 2?

Another new character? Good heavens, it's almost as if Sonic Team don't read English-speaking forums.

Still, it looks quite good. I don't really mind the 3D graphics on a 2D plane look (I quite like the Mario Brothers one as well), and the changing camera angles in replays might be pretty spectacular. With two screens, the vertical:horizontal ratio could make it feel cramped, even if there's really a decent amount of space either side of Sonic, but then I haven't played any DS platformers yet so I don't know how much of a problem that is.

I'm looking forward to seeing some videos of it.

If memory serves well, I believe there was a competition held for a new Sonic character to appear in the games. Just out of speculation, this might be the result of it.

I'll see if I can find the magazine I read that in.

Hmm, in that case I wouldn't be surprised if Blaze was the result of that...

Sonicteam/Sega do seem to introduce new character(s) with each progressive release.

Sonic the Hedgehog- Sonic, Eggman.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2- Tails.
Sonic CD- Amy Rose, Metal Sonic.
Sonic 3 (Sonic + Knuckles)- Knuckles.
Chaotix- Espio, Mighty (initally arcade), Vector, Charmy.
Sonic Adventure- Tikal, Gamma, Big.
Sonic Adventure 2- Rouge, Shadow
Sonic Heroes- Omega
Sonic Advance- Oh no, forget to add character!!
Sonic Advance 2- Cream.
Sonic Advance 3- Gemerl.
Sonic Battle- Emerl.

Not to mention all of the other games.

So you should expect a new character or two in game to occur.

Sonic Rush- Blaze the Cat.

Perhaps in her alternate reality, everything is backwards. So maybe she'll be a good character that turns evil.

Perhaps Blaze is the villain and Eggman is the hero...!

Why does everybody insist she's a villain when nothing really says that she is?

I thought Sonic games did a lot better in western countries than in japan, though. Um, right?

Infact, the whole playable character and queen from an alternate dimension thing, makes her seem like a good guy... gal... whatever.

Just because she's doing a Shadow pose doesn't make her evil.

Blaze looks scaringly similar to my early designs of Erika the Ocelot... O.O she just isn't an Ocelot and isn't yellow either.
The game's background looks awesome, but the sprites... two words: G Sonic.
I don't really like the separate dimension and Sol Emeralds plot... sounds too.. I dunno.. Archie? o.o
Like others said Blaze just isn't the most original name... and somehow her pose reminds me of Void o.O (and Shadow, too, but the first char I thought of was Void for some reason...)

I won't be getting a DS anyhow, but here is my take on it:

Whatever, man.

Until Blaze shows up on a console game, I don't particularly care. Handheld games tend to be detour-like anyway.

I like this "Rush Mode" concept. It seems like they've been trying to work in something like that for a while. God knows the speed-up icon often led my to my death.

The double-screen here strikes me as a waste of space. I suppose it's useful in that you have some idea of what lies ahead of you, but as I recall, Sonic goes left to right more often than up and down.

Maverick & Craig - they already stated that Blaze is a heroine, so the villain point is moot anyway. I was just contiuing along with the theme.

It'd be lovely if she were evil. The nice to naughty ratio is alarmingly unnaughty.

Well, they could role-revearsal on us and have her reveal near the end that she wanted the Sol emeralds so that she can better control her subordinates through fear.

Then Sonic could "hand her the business", to paraphrase.

For what it's worth, the E3 Demo clearly labeled her as a Hero.

Furthermore, all of the bad guys in the demo are those obnoxious "Eggmans Robots." I think it's a safe bet that old Doc Robotnik has something cooking up...

I agree that it was an odd choice to do 3D characters on 2D backgrounds, but you'll understand why when you see the boss battles. the camera tricks out and shows the action from some fairly cinematic angels from time to time. They're definitely what sold me on the game.

Still, the graphics aren't as bad as G-Sonic. In person, and in action, they look pretty sweet. At times, one could mistake them for the Advance Sprites.

Some questions:

-Elaborate on the bosses. Shifting camera angles? Does that mean the boss arenas are in full 3D, or is it merely 2D with some mad Mode 7 effects?

-What's the bar on the left meant for?

-How many "acts" in the zone you played? Are they seperate ala just about every other Sonic title, or appeneded to one another ala Sonic 3?

-Anything new concerning Sonic's move set?

That's it for now. You know, I just considered something: they played with the idea in Feel the Magic/Project Rub/Kimishineasdfasdaaah I forget, I wonder if slotting a Sonic GBA cart in with this title would unlock some things? Definitely something people should check when this game gets released.

Only one boss so far, and it was a 3d mecha snake that lurched from the background, trying to smash Sonic with a spiked ball in it's mouth. Sometimes the Snake would attack sonic directly, setting himself up for a good spin-jump. Other times he would roll the ball at Sonic, trying to shove he off a cliff. The snakes attacks cause the camera to zoom and ship in full 3D, while maintaining basic 2D controls. The resulting effect, made the whole affair look more intense and exciting.

"Rush mode," though what that is, no one could tell me.

One Act and a Boss fight. Don't worry, though. It's just a demo.

Nope. Imagine in the Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic modle was running about in a Sonic Advance game.

"Rush Mode" is sort of explained in one of the articles posted in this thread.

Another question, Shadowglass: judging from the demo so far, how do you compare the game with the Advance series? Is it better? More on par with (if even possible) S3&K?

It plays like a glitzier version of the Advance Series, with a taller POV.

Oh, then Rush is similar to the Advance series in the gameplay department, in that case.

Yeah I'm.....not impressed. It looks very dull, and almost exactly like Sonic Advance 1.

After expecting a full 3d Sonic game, to rival Mario 64 DS, I'm feeling pretty let down with Sonic Rush.

ruliwebfile.dreamwiz.com/...nic_01.wmv

Edit: Wow. Its just...Sonic Advance again with a pretty confusing 2 screen set-up.

robert.host-masters.net/vids/e3-2.mov

Edit 2: Well....mmm. This next video shows the boss segment. And it looks 10x better than the rest of the game, which is a bit odd! So...yes, I sort of like Sonic Rush now, but I REALLY WISH the whole thing was in 2.5d like the boss bits :/

Ummm...I just saw a video at Sega.com(Sonic Rush is now up on their site) and whoa. I can't wait for this game. If I get this in August(or whenever it's scheduled to come out) it'll definetly last me until ShtH. I love the style of the game though. I say make the new next-gen big console Sonic games like this and people will be getting them like AIDS. *shot* But yea seriously go to Sega.com. Apparantly Gamespot really liked the game...it earned some award. *shrugs*

If the entire game was in 2.5D I would be more interested. If the game used the DS's capabilities more than just for boss battles, I would also be more interested. I feel that this game is being rushed because it seems like just another Sonic Advance game, but for the DS.

IMO, Sega (or whatever part of Sonic Team works on games like this now), should focus on a Sonic-related game that uses the DS's full potential. If Nintendogs wasn't coming out, I would say go for a very interactive Chao game. In summation, Sonic Rush seems like it was "rushed" just to have a Sonic game on DS.
