No, not that game... but the ride! at none other than Alton Towers!

A Sonic-branded rollercoaster will launch at Alton Towers next month.

The
rollercoaster is part of a three-year deal between Alton Towers and
Sega, which will see the publisher hold exclusive video game rights at
the resort. The Alton Towers Hotel will also feature a Sonic The
Hedgehog themed room, which guests can stay in and play the latest
Sonic games.

The rollercoaster is
an updated version of Alton Towers’ Spinball Whizzer, and will be
called the Sonic Spinball as of Saturday, February 13th.

“We are
delighted to be working with Merlin Entertainments and Alton Towers
Resort” said  Sega  UK marketing director Amanda Farr.

“Partnering
Sonic with one of the UK’s most popular destinations for a family day
out is a fantastic opportunity for people to engage, and have fun, with
the Sonic brand. I’ll certainly be there at the launch of the
rollercoaster to have my turn!”

I remember when they used to have a Sonic room on the boat right Toyland Tours years and years ago, there was a big statue of Sonic in the center and moved his head left and right that my Mom's boyfriend painted. Around the room were TV screens showing gameplay of Green Hill Zone and I think they had the theme playing for that room. Might check on Youtube to see if they have footage of it, but the ride itself no longer exists.

Incidentally my parents used to work a lot at Alton Towers when I was a kid, so I have a lot of memories of the place.

Edit: Youtube DOES have a vid!

Sonic crops up at 2:55.

That was impressive. I wish I could have rode that. The youtube comments are saying they replaced it with some rubbish Wonka ride or something.

Well, I know where I'm going for my holiday this year! =D... What's that? I'm already going to Cornwall? NOOOOOOOOOO!

I wonder how these rooms are going to be "themed" though. Like, would it just be images of Sonic plastered all over the walls, or would it be decorated to look like the Green Hill Zone? That would be so unbelievably epic.

*grumble*

Only went to Alton Towers the once, and that was a school trip. These things have their limitations when you're medically recommended to stay off rollercoasters.

Because we have Disney Land, Disney World, and Cedar Point. We have the upper hand here. ;^)

DreadKnux and other members from Sonic Stadium manage to stay at Sonic suite and of course they took pictures. Look pretty cool place to stay at.

Woah! That room is actually decorated to look like the "Green Hill-esque" Zone from Sonic 4! Swwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeett! OMG! It's even got Gold Rings on the walls!
And... tell me if I'm wrong... but are those CHAOS-FREAKING-EMERALDS in that glass case with the Sonic plushies?!?!?!

I wont lie. I want to stay in that room and steal those plushies. Nothing but the plushie theft interests me.

Woah, hold on. You mean to say that you'd rather steal the plushies over a the chaos emeralds? Are you all there?

What is it about Sonic merchandise that turns decent people (and Craig) into despicable vandals, I ask?

Also, I ask why Sega hasn't realized a potential money-maker in the simmering market for collectible Chaos Emeralds (Gotta Got Them All?)? If Square-Enix can whore out Keyblade keychains and soft vinyl Slimes by the truckload...
