lets see...
full game = 3 episodes iirc.
3 x 1200 ms points = 3600 ms points, still following me children? Excellenté
now the current average price for ms points is about £15 for 2100.
Thus the "complete" game will cost about £25.71
Still costs less than the originals did when they were new. 😛
Just making sure perspective is gained!
XDXD! Those new banners are hilarous. Sonic Fans...They Only Complain about Everything. Priceless. xD! But yea...it's cheaper than the old games when they were new...very nice Mobius. People need to realize.
Video of aparrently the latest build! It also includes the world map which shows some blacked out areas which some people think maybe some of the ep. 2 map too. Also, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh!!! Super Sonic, Super Sonic, Super Sonic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh!!! Super Sonic, Super Sonic, Super Sonic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't we already know this?
First time I say that video though; still yet, old or new, it's still awesome!!
Game looks fun to me. His running animation will take some getting used to but yea, I want it.
My gosh. I'm excited. I'm really digging the run animation. It's reminiscent of CD abit[my favorite 2D run animation for Sonic]. And I take back what I said about homing attack not being needed. Now I have some sort of defense in the air if caught aimlessly free falling towards an enemy or something I can save myself. And yea that's the first footage off SS i've seen. Why'd it say fan-made trailer though? Oh man i'm super pumped now...game runs very well. So way past cool. xP Thanks Ray.
No, prob, once again, one of the advantages of belonging to two dedicated Sonic forums, and I have no idea why it says fan trailer. *scratches head*
Advantage indeed. Nice! So wow...like one more week and I could possibly own this game. :O! Insane.
Yep, and those who want to try it on the iPhone could get it by Thursday!
Craziness! I'm surprised at how excited I am for this. Staying away from all the news and stuff must've helped. *shrugs* Then again it's been awhile since i've played a 2D Sonic...so this could just be me missing my old buddy. We shall see, we shall see...
Not saying this in a SEGA HAS FAILED THIS GAME IS RUINED WHY DOES SONIC HAVE GREEN EYES sort of way, more of a casual observation, but did it seem to anyone else that Sonic was running up those hills a little too easily? In the original games you'd need quite a bit of a run-up to get up a vertical slope, but it seems a lot easier this time round.
On some, yes. On others it seemed like the momentum from the homing attack/whatever he used seem to add some additional speed. On one of the hills, like after he gets hit by the flying bots, almost seems as if part of the level hides a booster because I swear it sounds like he hit one on the way up but the other hills, he seems to accelerate up them at a normal rate or just a tad faster than the originals...or rather anything after the first game.
On another note, if we get a level with the same wonderful design like Altitude Limit or Sky Canyon, I'm going to cry. Give me another level like Music Plant!
Oh man! Sky Cannon was gorgeous. I miss my Advance 2. u_u And yes! Music Plant was wonderful!
Sky Canyon also seemed to have the second most bottomless pits outside of Altitude Limit.
Indeed, indeed. But that level...should've. I mean...we were up in the sky...bottomless pits[while not actually bottomless...Sonic would've hit the actual ground eventually ] make sense. The only time BPs are part of the level design.
This is probably a dumb question, but have we seen what the special stages look like for this game? Was it said that they were Sonic 1 style or something. I keep thinking that for some reason.
So Sonic 4 came out for the iPhone today, Anyone bought it? I am curious how it turn out.
Hi everyone,
Now for something completely different - a little thank you to the many people who have already been posting that they plan to pick up two (or more) versions / copies of Sonic 4 when the game releases over the next week!
If you pick up two or more versions or copies of the game, we'd like you to let us know - we appreciate everyone who supports the game by doing so very much, but we'd also like to do a little more to raise the bar beyond what most other game companies do for their fans.
Starting next week on Monday, this thread will unlock and you'll be able to post pictures to confirm which versions you own. From there, here's what we plan to do:
* Anyone who picks up two or more versions of the game will be included in a special sticky thread to be posted here on the SEGA and Sonic 4 Forums. This will be a sort of MVP list that will document all of the fans out there who went above and beyond to help support the game. This list will also be posted on the SEGA Blogs and featured on the Sonic 4 website via the blogs feed.
* Those fans who have both the consoles and the determination to grab three versions of the game will receive placement on the forum list, a digital bucket of cute fluffy kittens*, a special call-out on the SEGA Blogs and the Sonic 4 website's news feed, and special placement in one very cool spot, to be revealed! (As soon as we finish unloading the kittens.)
* Finally, any die-hard collectors or supporters who have already decided that they plan to grab a copy of every version of the game will be featured in all of the above, and will also receive a special thank you shout-out, on video, from both Ken Balough and myself, which will be featured on the SEGA Youtube page and posted all across SEGA's realms here on the internets. (Rumor has it that interested parties may also request that Ken present his thank you in Spanish, and he will actually do so. Es loco!)
All that said, we'd also like to give out some special thanks to those who will only be getting a single version - even if you've only got one console, know that every single supporter helps.
The list here will be updated every few days for two weeks following the Xbox Live launch of the game next Wednesday. The 27th of the month will be the final day to submit pictures of the versions you own, and following that Ken and I will start filming the video for anyone who sends in pictures to prove that they're truly a super-collector and huge supporter of the game.
Whether you're grabbing all four versions or even just one - thanks for being there to support 2D Sonic games on consoles again. Thanks for taking the time to help us make Episode I a success, and to build upon that to make this series even better in the future. Thank you - for being true blue.

I...I... cant even burn a copy on youtube.... curse you digital distribution!
My mate has the iPhone version. He really doesn't like the special stages - Tilt controls, time limits and compulsory ring collecting ruin it. Doesn't seem to mind the rest of the game.
Wow...SEGA...that's pretty cool. I'm pretty sure I will be getting two version of the game. But it'll be a big gap before I get that second copy...so I guess I won't be in the special thread. u_u Anyway...yes the SS...what are they like exactly? I suppose I could just wait and find myself next week. >.>
Now that one awesome looking map/level select screen.
IGN Review: http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/112/1126734p1.html
I'm still not excited about this game :/
Even though I ignore reviews for the most part, seeing good scores is encouraging, even if I was getting the game anyways.
The shotouts for buying multiple copies seems a bit silly to me... "hey! Spend $80 and get your name mentioned on Youtube!"
That does seem really odd. Does sega need money or something?
So, does anyone know when the game's released in the UK? Doesn't appear on either the XBLA marketplace or the Wii Shopping channel yet, and Wikipedia just says October 7th without specifying a region.
Edit: Seems a quick google search answered my question. October 13th, Wednesday.
That does seem really odd. Does sega need money or something?
"Our jobs depend on this game doing well," is what I read from it.
Very pretty indeed, Shadonic. So an 8? Wow...when's the last time IGN gave a Sonic game an 8[not counting the handhelds]? Like SA2? 😛 Anywho...the review nearly killed me. "Part remake, part sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 recreates four zones from the original Genesis game, but adds enough bells and whistles to make it feel like something new." No sir! There was no Casino level in Sonic 1, thank you very much. Spring Yard had the colors to look like one maybe. And Mad Gear could just as easily be Metropolis as i'm guessing he's saying it is Scrap Brain[which it does resemble]. And Splash Hill...well ok. But i'm excited. Just gotta make it through 3 tests next week, and this game Will.Be.Mine. <3
That review is fantastic, Psx. This guy obviously has played Sonic before. I like, I like. I'm three tests away from obtaining this game. Kinda mad I don't have the 4 tests I originally thought. Would've been pretty ironic, or so I thought. Woo hoo! Go Sonic!
Just played some of the Wii version. While finding the physics wonky (like it's been said), it's highly enjoyable. Plays like a Genesis Sonic game... with two buttons and only one actually makes Sonic jump. Only complaints are minor stuff, like some levels are kind of annoying, heh.
Gameinformer's Review for Sonic 4 is up.
Another good score? And the review is done by Tim Turi, and I pretty much go for his reviews over most. Good to see Sonic 4 doing well, I knew Dimps could do it. They did make Sonic Pocket Adventure, after all.
Ha, nice! Also here's another "8"...or 8.5 rather. From 1UP - http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3181842
So I've played the game and well... it's alright. It's one of the better Sonic games we've had lately but it doesn't compare to the original games. Some of the levels are very well designed and crafted, I enjoyed the Labyrinth and Machine levels, but the Casino levels were downright terrible. Splash Hill didn't leave an impression on me.
The physics are wonky and Sonic doesn't control like he used to, so coming to grips with the game is difficult at first. I can't understand why it was so difficult for Dimps to be able to replicate the original feeling.
Music wise I honestly can't remember a single tune. Which doesn't speak well of it. And graphic wise I wasn't amazed either, it looks like a fan game. Worse than a fan game, actually, considering some of the amazing looking ones that are online.
Special Stages are pretty neat and challenging, though. I like how they're based on Sonic 1's but with a twist. Here's hoping Episode 2 is based on the halfpipe and 3 is based on Blue Spheres. Here's also hoping that they introduce Tails in Episode 2 and Knuckles in Episode 3 whilst allowing you to play as those characters in Episode 1's levels and have alternate routes through ala S3&K but we'll have to see. I also didn't really like the bosses; they were all remakes of ones fought in previous games although with a slight twist; I'd have preferred original bosses. That said, I would like to see Metal Sonic return in a later episode.
As for levels I'd like to see be based on in the future episodes, I definitely think we could do with seeing Chemical Plant, Ice Cap, Lava Reef, Jungle and Sky Base levels in the future.
One thing I wish the game had is a story. Now, I don't want the kind of story we've seen since the 3D adaptations but more along the lines of what was shown in S3&K- there was no dialogue but you had a sense of story from the way the characters acted (Knuckles ambushing Super Sonic; Dr. Eggman stealing the Master Emerald etc). Plus I was a bit dissapointed the levels didn't continue from each so you could see a progression through the world (e.g. the snow and ice from Ice Cap zone at the beginning of Launch Base).
Overall I thought it was an okay game. But ultimately I think it's passable; the price is too steep not neccessarily for the quantity of the game's length (the zone's included are comparable to the old game), but rather the quality of it doesn't feel worthwhile. Wait for the disc based version when its released and see what he price of it is.
I got it for the Wii.
As Pach said, Sonic doesn't control like you would want him to. He very easily loses momentum when you stop holding to the right (or whichever direction you're going) Basically, picture this: You get Sonic going at full speed running and then stop holding right. He will quickly come to a stop. This may seem a like small thing, but holding down on the dpad of the wii mote all the time is not nice on the thumb. You can't play using the Gamecube controller.
Other than that, it's ok. It's not super great but it's alright. We are of course getting 1/3rd of a game here so I'm hoping episodes 2 and 3 can retroactively fix any issues. The music is decent I guess. The level design is really good. The speed boosters aren't really a problem.
Oh my goodness, the final boss. I don't have all the chaos emeralds but WOW. Eggman's uhm.. hmm I wonder if I need spoilers.. Eggman's revamped
has a super crazy mode.
So that's two reviews with better than average scores. And neither one is from Dave Halverson.
I was going to complain about how this will make SEGA think they can load a game with recycled concepts without doing anything substantial and get good scores, but this guy actually sounds like he knows what he is talking about and mentioned that it is LOADED with branching paths so I want to give it a chance, even with screwed up physics.

Which is even more bizarre since they started the marketing with SONIC IS MOMENTUM.
No need to talk about the physics, they are wonky. Sonic doesn't move fast enough, which has caused me quite a few deaths. I think the homing attacks works well with this engine as it often allows me to get a nice dash when there are no enemies.
Some of the level designs are a wee bit lazy. Splash Hill was pretty bland, you've seen this level before, many times over. The other levels are done pretty well and I find myself REALLY loving the Labryinth Level quite a bit. Act 2 is really well done. The torch mechanic works pretty well and I like some of the ideas they used with it. When you were speeding along on the mine cart, pushing the edge of the screen, part of me hoped he'd go so fast that the screen would fail to keep up. Alas no go. Mad Gear is...ugh. It's like Scrap Brain and Metropolis had an evil step child. As Robotnik's base, it works since its dangerous and well...deadly but from a gameplay standpoint, it's ugh. Act 3 has to take the cake with its forced scrolling sections that I'm sure everyone loves.
Music, a good chunk of it's a bit forgettable but there are some tracks that seem to stand out like a couple of Casino Street's Acts, almost all of Labryinth and some of Mad Gear too...which makes up for it's evil level design. Is there a music select with this? *tries Sonic 1 level select code* Alas, no go. Part of me wishes that Dimps had kind of gone with the sound direction they had done with the Rush series but whatever.
Didn't care much for the 15 dollar price but I'm enjoying it.
Just a heads up, the Sonic 4 site has been updated with 2 new wallpapers one based on Lost Labryinth, which I have, and one on Splash Hill.
So I just played the trial. Wow.
Too many questions.
It actually plays worse than what I thought it would do.
Same. The starting running speed feels slower than I'd expect Mario to run, and the homing attack has gotten in the way of the jumps a few times when jumping from the edge of a platform. However if the homing attack was better compensated for the later level design it could work really well.
A cute little girl playing Sonic 4
I still think that camera is zoomed in too close. I dunno how often was it a problem that you'd jump into an enemy that was directly in front of you but couldn't see because it was just off screen?
While I don't consider this game breaking. I did see bits in that last video of sonic walking up the inclines at his slowest speed possible. I don't know if you have to force that to happen or if it just does on its own.

Well, one part in Act 1 of Splash Hill, after hitting the Bubbles, there's a hidden speed shoes that would explain running up the walls with what would look like just walking speed.
it looks nice i suppose but still i think the xbox or wii is too big of a system for a game with such simplicity, it should be a DS game maybe that new 3D DS.
So, I haven't been able to play much, trying to get the Emeralds as I progress being part of it, so I just now beat Splash Hill's boss and got 3 Emeralds, and I'm having great fun, Act 3 was pure awesome. I've also heard the game gets better as it goes so I'm ready!!
Casino Street Zone, especially Act II, is some of the most fun I've had playing Sonic for years. The Special Zones are great too, I was worried they'd be too finicky and hard but they're actually quite charming (mind you I'm only two emeralds in).
I'm really enjoying this game so far. Sure the physics are different and such, but sixteen years after the classic series ended, and with like twenty-five other games in between, I think they've done a really good job.
I'm personally in love with it. It's what I've been waiting all these years for, and it paid off. Casino Street is the most fun I've had with the blue blur in years, and Splash Hill was so nostalgic it hurts.
I felt the Homing Attack was a nice, fun addition that mixed up the gameplay, and also added a bit more style to the game. Sonic's speed (slow and fast) takes some getting used to, but I haven't seen any of the physics problems that 'plagued' the game.
I'm 5 emeralds and 3 zones in, and I haven't been able to put it down. Each time I'd finish an act, I'd go back and play another one I loved, just for the heck of it. I can't say a Sonic game has made me want to do that in a long time.
Sonic 4 is everything I wanted in a Sonic game. He's back!
Haven't had time to download it yet. Is it the full game, or is it only the first three stages?
