Sheesh what make people think Sonic isn't for kids?
The early games was about a fuzzy hedgehog rescuing cute little animals from mean looking machines.
And even the characters themselves weren't mature back then or now for that matter.
I think the term best fitting would be "All Age" which the earlier Sonic games fit like a glove as oppose to "mature audiences" only.
If you want to be silly about it, the Sonic series has always been mature in the fact that the majority of the characters run around in nothing but shoes and gloves.
Plus all the shenanigans with the Spanish translation of Tails's name.
Lol, what is it?
Edit: Colas. What's the big deal?
Quick, you're actually starting to irritate me. Do you really think that vocalising your dislike of "shovelware for kiddies" we make you sound more mature? You've bounded that phrase around so often on this board that I don't even know what it means anymore. In fact, I'm starting to question if there's an actual "shovel" involved at all.
Also, you liked "the maturity of Shadow"? God, when that game came out, you weren't even legally old enough to play it unless you're living in Japan. And I don't mean this too personally, but its because of kids like you playing games and watching movies that are not meant for them that the media gets in a frenzy everytime a kid gets shot or stabbed by another kid because they played GTA4. I don't want this topic to start a debate about censorship laws and ethics so I'm ending it here, but for god's sake, Quik, grow up.
What worried me first is "What if this is Sonic Rush?" Now what worries me is "What if they screw this one up?"
As far as Sonic's friends, acquintences and rivals etc. I wouldn't mind them popping up inside a Prison Egg Capsule along with Chao and the CKY animals. Plus a brief "lol Shadow, you're so poopie." from Sonic.
I'd love to see the -cky animals again. They've been gone too long.
EDIT: Update! Needlemouse.com site a fake.
The Green Hill concept art is fake.
I don't want to get my hopes up, but as Sonic fans, can alot of us really even help it? This teaser is already more of a step in the right direction than what Sega's done for the character in the past 6 or 7 years. =/
HAHAH BUT I BOUGHT ALL OF THEM.
That's alright then. I was a bit surprised when I first saw it, and not in the, "Ooh! what a nice surprise!", kind of way.
By the way, John, did you really not like Sonic Rush? Or is it just the idea of it being a prettified version of it you don't like?
Wow, it was fake all along. The teasers real though, right?
Well, it was released by Sega and a Sega spokesperson has acknoleged it, so yeah.
I'm not a fan of Sonic Rush's gameplay style. The Fast Forward Button + whole forced level memorisation + Instant death if you aren't fast and exact. At all times.
And yet, I loved Sonic Rush Adventure. But that could have been the fact I love Marine and Captain Whisker. I guess I am a complicated man.
At least I think it was a step forward from Sonic Advance 2's boss battles. Running after Eggman was all well and good in Mushroom Hill Zone in S3K, but when you repeat the whole thing SEVEN times, FOURTEEN if you count XX, or a whopping SEVENTY times if you include playing through the game with all five characters, even though Amy plays almost like a Sonic clone with a hammer.
Okay, two steps forward and one step back. The Fast Forward button in Rush and Rush Adventure often got me in trouble. It's a bit more unbearable in Sonic Unleashed.
Needlemouse.com...I never even knew that site existed. Wow...hahah! Yea that Green Hill esque art definitely looks odd. Heh...suckers! 😛
I guess they came up with the designs that day, having found use for the domain or they knew ahead of time considering it was registered in August.
As for the game, I'm not getting my hopes too high.
I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully it turns out good.

It's Colitas and from what I remember watching AoStH in Spanish Tails was a girl. Sonic went around calling her "hermanita" or little sister. Hence whenever my brothers, cousins and me played Sonic, I got to be Tails since I was the only girl
"That doesn't look like Sonic", came a few comments on the SEGA forums and other gaming communities. Even though we hope that the majority of you have seen the actual resemblance to a certain classic game, message boards and blogs across the net decided to have a little fun with it - and they added their own images to see which ones ended up fitting. So, let's take a look at some of the ones we here at SEGA of America found most hilarious/awesome!
Pikachu with a sombrero = awesome!

Rush and Advance 2 were okay if the only thing you wanted out of a Sonic game was to master Time Trial. Both titles seemed to have been designed with the idea that running at top speed without having to stop = good game. SAdv2 took it farther with the way each act started with your chosen character looking like they were getting ready to run the 100 meter dash, the copious amounts of Dash panels and bumpers, the Trick system, as well as the "rolling" bosses (just what kind of term is that, anyway?) that end each zone. In fact "race to the finish" seems to the be the overall theme of Sonic Advance 2, much like Super Mario Bros. 3's theme was very much some kind of stage production (title screen curtains, backgrounds w/ drop shadows as well as the ability to run around BEHIND the backgrounds, overhead platforms held up by rigging).
SAdv2's Special Stage system was crap, though. GG Dimps, way to introduce token collecting into a game that discourages you from exploring by propelling you forward at every opportunity and cutting you off from parts of the level if you stray too far forward.
The bosses were only a problem if you were anybody but Sonic and Cream.
*sigh* This 'Project Needlemouse'? I don't know, man. I don't know.
Robotnik Revenge! Hahahah! Hilarous! Honestly...when I first saw that silhouette, I was thinking Espio. Wishful thinking perhaps. But yea tell me about it Psx...Sadv 2 SS stuff was madness. They were pretty fun once you actually got into them though. I loved how the characters started out in blocks on Sadv2.
Just saying...
Is the silhouette really that confusing? I've got a .gif here that will proove to anyone who is STILL unsure as to what it is:
And there you have it. Nothing more. Nothing less. Simple.
*slaps forehead* D'oh!

I agree about the special stages, there. The worst special stages I think belong to Sonic Heroes. I couldn't control the characters no matter what crappy formation I used. Fastforwarding to catch up in an emerald in a giant tube so poorly executed it made SAdv2's look easy. Now that I think about it, while SAdv3 wasn't so much about speed if you didn't have Sonic as a lead or partner, but finding chao in the stages and zone hub was still required to collect a key and beat a level with it to get to a special stage was a pain if one wasn't using Knuckles as lead with Tails as partner, the best team ever.
The bosses were only a problem if you were anybody but Sonic and Cream.
True. But playing as Cream is essentially easy mode because you can sit back and spam Cheese.

OH SNAPS TEH PLOT THICKENS!
I must be getting jaded in my old age. Sega could've elicited real excitement out of me if they said this game had Naka as lead programmer, Ohshima as director, Yasuhara as lead designer, and Hataya as lead composer. This teaser tells me as much as Ratcliffe and Hayes have already said about the release schedules of Sonic games in general.
GUYS, GUYS... www.needlemouse.com WAS NOT concept art for Project Needlemouse OR fake, it in fact is a preview for a FAN GAME called Needlemouse: Forgotten Tagline.

Yes, we KNOW.
Well I thought if you knew you would've posted it by now.
EDIT: A couple years ago in Germany, on a Sonic fan site, they had leaked information on a premature, annanounced Sonic game called "Sonic Revolution". Anyways, the info was removed and the site closed due to investigation as to how they got the info, and I'm thinking maybe Sonic Revolution will be Project Needlemouse's official name.
It was most likely either going to be the Wii's version of Sonic 06 or Sonic and the Secret Rings.
Remember, Revolution was the Wii's original name.
I'd love to see the -cky animals again. They've been gone too long.

That doesn't say "needlemouse.com is a site promoting a fan game". That says "needlemouse.com site a fake". There's a subtle difference, but I think that's what Quiksilver is talking about.

Damn you, Psx. That looked cool!
On a side note, I hate playing with a keyboard.
In any case, who ever designed these tiles certainly got the ol' Sonic aesthetic down pat. Less realism, more surrealism.
That level looks like one of the Zones in the MS/GG version of Sonic 2! Which one was it again?
It isn't. Notice the Sonic 1 badniks out and about the pictures. 😮
Those pics were created using the Sonic level creator at PlaySega.com - I know the designer of that particular level and she's fairly flattered by the compliments they keep getting.
No, want I meant was it reminded my of a MS/GG Sonic 2 zone. The colour scheme and block motifs and such are reminiscent. It was Aqua Lake Zone by the way. And I was totally wrong.

I believe in Sonic Team.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT
I LIKED THE WEREHOG YEAH I SAID IT
I've said it once and I will say it over and over until someone kills me. I want Chipteeeek muuooosik! For new age nostalgia!
I''m not asking for like....a certain musician to do it or anything. I just think it's a neat idea to use the unique sound of the old Sonic games and incorporate them into new songs. Instead of remixing all the time.

Dude, you ar soooooooo right. I love chiptunes and when done right, like the example you just gave, it can sound amazing. I hope they take that direction with Project Needlemouse. They won't but I still hope they do n__n
But be aware, chiptunes don't always work out so well. Some times they can slaughter otherwise good songs. Check this out:
Open Your Heart (Sonic Pinball Party Version)
Ooooooh! That's nasty!! (I originally though it sounded like it should have been in the 16-bit Power Rangers games)
No probs, Ashide.
And wow. That Open Your Heart is pretty sour. Not all songs can be retrofied I guess.
Yikes, I think that maybe the fault of the composer choice of instruments than the choice of which music to use. There has to exist some nice chiptune remixes of "current"-age Sonic games. I mean if someone did this, then surely there are ones that are equal in quality for Sonic music.
So seems SEGA is putting some money for this game outside of just production costs. Should we be excited about their overabundance of faith in this new game. Check out the announcement. Clicky!
So does that mean the QA budget will be nonzero this time?
