whois says it's just some random person
Ah, I was skeptical too. But then, the good people at SEGA forums discovered something interesting.
Deepening the research with the guys at SEGA forum, it is discovered that if you enter www.sonicthehedgehogX.com
where X= 1 through 10, they all leads to SEGA's homepage. Now this may
seem discouraging, but who.is displayed something rather interesting.

Now here's three theories I've came up with:
1) SEGA is playing a trick on us and used an entirely different registrar to throw us off.
2) All of them are own buy the same group (not SEGA, btw) and they somehow skipped four until last
3) The one we're all hoping for: Project Needlemouse is really called Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Of course, one does wonder if someone random owned the address, why did they only obtain 4 and that's it. And if SEGA truly owned the address, why did we find out so early?
It seems next week is "The Week of the Hedgehog".
That's not all that's next week.
Aww, YOU REMEMBERED!
*hugs*
Why were they also all created so recently o.o
Probably to be linked to a mini-site currently offline relating to the game information.
A bit dissapointed all we got was tree and flower concept art. The music is sort of nice.
Heh, that music is fantastic. And those trees/flowers...I liked them. 😛 Praying for something great...Thursday better blow my mind.
So they're revealing the name on Thursday. The forth day of the week. What's that? This thursday's also the Forth of February?...
...
Can you say "Sonic Foursday"?
Oh Sega. Back to your old tricks I see.

Why, do I have a feeling that this will actually be called Sonic 4?
Exactly what I was insinuating. Guess combined with the www.sonicthehedgehog4.com stuff, its a dead cert.
I kind of hope it isn't though. It'll ruin the surprise if they said "Ta Da! Its Sonic the Hedgehog 4! Betch'a didn't see that coming!" having most of us already worked it out.
Haha! Yea...watch it be Sonic 4. That's going to be the most obvious thing ever. As long as he's holding up 4 fingers on the cover[even if it's a digital download there better be artwork of him holding up 4 fingers].
Man these guys are predictable. Does it count as concept art if it is just a fancy drawing of something from Sonic 1?
The music is a very good evolution of the Genesis music.
I thought about making a 3D caterkiller for the concept art submission thing 😡
Oh well.
Damn Sega keeps redirecting me to the Sega Australia website. Anyone got any good ideas of how to get to their US site?
ETA: Never mind, it's up on YouTube.
Well www.sonicthehedgehog4.com is now inaccesible unless you have the authorization. (i.e. no one other than the workers at SEGA does)
No way this is all a coinikydink
http://blogs.sega.com/usa/2010/02/03/project-needlemouse-midnight-reveal/
Anybody staying up for this?
Ah man Midnight? I guess I'll watch the trailer or pics tomorrow then.
It says midnight PST, that's 3 AM EST, and I got to go to work at 8 AM so I won't be up unfortunately.

Would you mind linking? Can't find it myself and the official site doesn't seem to make it obvious to me.
i could stay up till 3am. Unlikely but I've stayed up far later. It's just that I have class at 1pm tomorrow.
I heard they're gonna announce the color of Sonic's fur, along with some more concept art of grass and sand.

For some strange reason I have a feeling his fur's gonna be blue, or maybe I'm just crazy.. >>

It was a sarcastic reference to the fact that Sega has announced overtly obvious things and produced concept art of things very familiar to old school players...
Anyway, I wasn't terribly impressed by the short music clip, but whatever. That's just a small sample. I'd like to know who are the composers, though. Hataya or bust.
Dug up some info from another forums. This sounds interesting.
Oh, sorry no grass concept pics. I should've clarified, it's actually going to be the unveiling of the next contest. Apparently, if Sega receives 27,000 Sonic-themed AMV fan submissions, they're going reveal a chart which will gradually eliminate rejected working titles of the game, such as "Sonic and the Sumo Samurai", "Sonic & Mr. Needlemouse", "Sonic Crackers", and "Sonic Soccer All-Stars and Sega Characters with Mario at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Ultimate Smash Fighters and Friends 2010", and "Sonic 4" to name a few. Each title will be crossed out over the next 8 months until we have the official title along with a super special sneak peak of Bentley Jones' new songs "Believe in the Power of Friendship and Equality" and "Visions of an Exoneration" from his new album "I'm Not (That) Gay".
GOLLLYYYYY!!!!!!! Let's get to work!
10 minutes after.
Wasn't Gamespot also teasing an unveiling for tonight?
Whoopie. Another teaser. Well, the level looked pretty good for the 2.5 seconds we saw it, but they went the Sonic Rush route by using a 3D Sonic. His little half-hearted jog is painful to watch compared to the classic run animations showcased earlier in the video.
Ah, well. Sonic 4: Ep 1 confirmed. And no, he isn't holding up four fingers (granted, that would look kind of stupid) and is instead holding up one, glaring at us with his green eyes, long spines, and a hollow, dead-inside smile. Happy Sonic Foursday, everyone.
I would have preferred the Brawl figure 8 Run animation.
The future of the franchise.
Well that one freaking half second screen of game play I did see intrigued me. I will not say this is the future of the franchise. For this to be something they'd stake their future in it probably wouldn't be download only. They'd make it a proper game you buy at the store. This is just a project. I'm sure they'll get back into making full 3D games soon enough.
I am dissapointed that they didn't retro Sonic's design. I mean they're going out of there way to retro everything else. Retro and nostalgia is the basis for this entire project...

Hilariously, if you read the interview on Gamespot, the SEGA rep gives almost exactly that answer when asked if this is where the Sonic series is headed.
Gamespot:
GS: Is this where the Sonic franchise is moving, or can we still expect to see console and portable titles?
KB: Sonic as a brand is definitely not moving away from our
packaged console versions. Making Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I for
download is just a new way to offer a great Sonic experience through a
different medium.
Yay no chubby Sonic. Green eyes Sonic FTW. While it look interesting I'll wait for retail version with all the episodes to buy it.
Btw the official website is up. Notice some part of the website are time lock.
LAME! I want my four fingers! 😛
First impression is a bit disappointing. I was expecting Sonic Unleashed style backgrounds. This looks like something from Donkey Kong Country. Well at any rate i'll probably download the wiiware version instead of the xbox one since i cant stand the d-pad on the xbox controller. Hopefuly the motion controls are just an option, although i cant imagine how they'd be used.
I'm curious who is making this game. Sonic Team japan, USA, Dimps?
OK...so i've finally seen the new teaser/and site. I'm a bit excited. More than I was initially. Still though...i'm taking this with a grain of salt. I did like how he said it does take place after S&K. That...made me smile bigtime. The homing attack though. =/ Not sure if I want that in a 2D game. Loving all the time sensitive material on the site though...for some reason. lol
Edit: Anyone notice they're acknowledging the fact people will have 99 lives? Nice! 😛
The majority of the Sonic fans are an ungrateful group, aren't they?
Fans: WAHH! WAHH! WE WANT A 2D SONIC GAME!
Sega: Ok. Here you go.
Fans: ... WE HATE YOU SEGA! THIS GAME ISN'T WHAT WE WANTED!
My first impression though? Overjoyed.
Although the bar has been set really high by calling it Sonic 4, I need to see more than nearly one second to make an impression.
I'm definitely happy that this game is 2D though. I'll be honest, when I saw him run through the spiral it made me think of Sonic X-Treme. Maybe it's Sonic's design that reminded me of that?
Either way, I'm definitely happy this game is happening.
I'm happy with what I'm seeing. Got too much going on in my life to start complaining about whatever menial things were in that trailer.
Sonic The Hedgehog 4. Just saying that brings a smile to my face.

We're a dismayed and dismal bunch, actually. Having giving the relationshp many many tries...it just seems SEGA isn't big on commitment. 😛 Nah...like I said i'm not knocking it...but I sure as hell ain't rocking it. Name?Check. First level? Check. Nostalgia feel from approx. 3.79 seconds of gameplay? Check. This is looking good...almost great, but if it really wants me to kneel down and give it my "ring"...it's gotta fit in with Sonic 1-Sonic 3. I'm keeping a close eye on this title now.
P.S. That mysterious console the game is releasing on is SEGA's new console. *shot, buried, dug up and beat down...then cremated and sent into a rocket that crashes into Mars*
First impression is a bit disappointing. I was expecting Sonic Unleashed style backgrounds.
... this doesn't even make sense? What would it matter, it's 2D? They're trying to go back to its roots.
Anyway, not much of a complaint on my part except a concern; why does it look like Sonic is jogging but going full speed? I hope they fix that animation...
Yeah it's pretty funny that the fandom is so whiny about this trailer. Especially because Sega isn't using sprites and because it's not classic design of Sonic and the fact that "it's not like classic Sonic" despite seeing only THREE SECONDS of gameplay.
This only confirms two of what I always thought:
1) The fans is at fault as much as Sega for the downfall of Sonic
2) The older fans are just as whiny, selfish, and stupid just as much as the younger ones.
Looking forward to it 😮
I'm guessing with the run animation.. at that point perhaps Sonic wasn't running at full speed?
it's not like Sega doesn't have a history of disappointing us at every
corner. I'm reserving my joy/sadness for when I play this. For now I'm
just curious and questioning. For some reason after all the hype of OMG
STAY UP TILL 2-3AM TO WATCH THIS TRAILER GUYZ! I didn't feel really
hyped after watching that trailer. I was excited yeah..because I'm a
Sonic fan.
But in that like...2 seconds of gameplay that I saw I felt
more like I was looking at Sonic Rush than anything. It's probably my
knee-jerk reaction to seeing modern Sonic in an old-school style
setting. But Sonic 4 was the farthest thing from my mind.
It's not the same team as it was 10 years ago, nor is it the same technology!
Let's be realistic here, we're getting exactly what WORKS for them at THIS point in time...
Geez, I'm happy so long as the game is actually *fun*!
If people actually know how to let their preconceived and entirely inaccurate ideas of Sonic 4 go and just GIVE a little admittance to the fact that we were never going to get 100% of what we were expecting because of the times we live in now, perhaps we can start looking forward and just see where we go from here, instead of berating it for not being the same as the past...when it was NEVER in a million years EVER going to be.
We ARE where we're at now - for better or for worse.
Hmmm. I'm thinking this will be Rush with no Boost lol
Ladies and Gentlemen. I am not sure about it.
The only thing I really dont like is the running animation.
Yay, it's Sonic Rush! With new maps!
Given that Rush is the best Sonic game in 10 years, to my eyes, this makes it amazing. But nothing new or hype worthy. But YAY SONIC RUSH!
What is it with people thinking that it's Sonic Rush because it's 2.5D?
Hell, Sonic wasn't even running that freaking fast enough for it to be Rush/Rush-esque game.

Honestly...the new fans don't seem to be all that whiny from what I see. I'm wondering where I fit in though...i'm definitely not an old fan having jumped on the Sonic bandwagon full speed at SA2, and the newest Sonic i've played was Secret Rings. So yea...but hey you could just as easily say the fandom is as much whiny as it is quick to praise. Huh, huh?
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1
Ecstatic.
They have said it's momentum based speed which was like Sonic 1-3 so you can't really judge too much based on the footage.
