Off topic but wow Sonic is Trending on Yahoo at # 4.
Honestly...the new fans don't seem to be all that whiny from what I see.
Have you SEEN the blog comments?
"OH MY GOD I WAS SO HOPING THERE WERE GOING TO BE A GAJILLION CHARACTERS BUT NOW ONLY SONIC? SOOO DISAPPOINTING!!! "
"WHERE'S THE STORY?! THE PLOT! THE ROMANCE!!!!"
"NOW THEYRE JUST APPEASING TO THE OLDER FANS"
Wahhh, wahhh, wahhh. These little turds and ideas is what killed Sonic. And you bet your ass the oldbies are going to be bitter and skeptical about this whole thing until the thing is out. I'm sure as hell not buying it, but I will utilize the free-demo download of XBL to the FULLEST EXTENT. If it's worth buying, I'll buy it. But I'm not falling into this:
WE SHOULD KNOW BETTER, PEOPLE!!!
AHAHAH! @ Jin's use of The Sonic Cycle. But ok...wow, I haven't seen those comments. Hmmm..here's what's going to happen they'll see how much of a success this game is. They continue these episodic type games to please the people that like the old school feel, but also continue the newer age games. I see no flaw in this.
Well...
>.>
Oh man. I've been to a separate forum earlier. A more active one than this to put my first comments about the trailer. I made one comment. Maybe two because I replied to someone. About how I wish they had used Classic Sonic.
Oh that was the wrong thing to say. The wrong thing to say... Somehow they managed to warp my words to make it look like I'm a retro brat. And a total dummy for criticizing something. Though I wasn't being a critic I was just wistfully stating my opinion. So instead of trying to cover for myself I high tailed it out of there. It was only going to get worse.
Btw shouldn't the title of the thread be change to "Sonic The Hedgehog 4"?
What is it with people thinking that it's Sonic Rush because it's 2.5D?
Hell, Sonic wasn't even running that freaking fast enough for it to be Rush/Rush-esque game.
From the few seconds of gameplay, it looked like it was Rush. Heck, the Sonic 2 corkscrew twist into loop-de-loop was used in Leaf Storm. The hub even looks similar, sparring the lack of Rush bar.
I'm having trouble reading what Sega is trying to say with this game. On the one hand, I'm excited that they have the confidence to call it Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and overjoyed that it will tie-in with the Sonic Legacy titles (Sonic 1/2/3&4) - but that all gets over-shadowed by the fact that they're not confident enough to make it for consoles. The reason for the download service is so that games designers can "have a go" on a idea or concept, without the added production cost of manifacturing the discs and boxes and manuals, so if it doesn't sell well, the loss isn't so great(yes, we're talking money again). To sum up, they're not sure whether the game would sell on the shelf, but they think its worthy to have the moniker of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. I really don't know whether to be excited or dismayed. I really REALLY REALLY want it to be the former. As long as it feels like I'm playing a classic Sonic game, then that's all I care about.
Well, enough whining. On with the raves (and maybe some graves)!
I really love the look of that first zone in that teaser (even if Sonic's running animation is a bit dodgey), and EFFIN' YEAH(!) - I missed you, "spinning-panel-goal-posts"! (Dude, it's so wierd to see the new Eggman on that panel - its a good weird though). Btw, did anyone else think that the floating lurking Robotnik in the background looked like it was some Sonic 3D Blast/Flickies' Island?
I for one am happy with the decision to add the homing attack. It works pretty well in the Sonic Megamix fan-game, so it could be done well - just as long as you also have the option of a spin jump attack to defeat "badniks" (it feels right to call them that again ^_^)
Also, I didn't comment on it before, but I love the 16-bit chip-tune music sample. Hope its used throughout the game.
Anyone else think it wierd that that they used Sonic's "beta" run when acknologing "1992"? If I was truely cynical I'd accuse SEGA of pandering - but I'd never do that... (<_<; // ;>_>)
As for the site, love the time-locks. Just over 11 hours until the next update~! Yay! Also, I wonder what the "???" could mean on the list of platforms in the top right of the page? Could it be for the DSi Ware? lol, if it is for a DS version, the comparisons to Sonic Rush would make even more sence XD.
My only major hope is that it either does do well enough to make more "episodes", and then once all "episodes" are done it gets released in stores on a compilation disc. I haven't connected my Wii to the internet yet, and I'd hate to miss out on this. And how can I judge a game I haven't played?
Edit: ^^^^
Actually, the reason why it's download only is because of how well received Mega Man 9 was and how amazingly WELL it did across all platforms, even WiiWare. Production will probably be a bit cheaper, lacking the cost of boxing and manufacturing umpteen million discs, will probably bring them in money. If it does well, then Sonic 5 or whatever may either stay on download, or go on disc. Because of the fact that all the Sonic games passed Adventure 2 have been selling like CRAZY and yet review scores have been abysmal and fans keep yelling at Sega and Sonic Team to open their freakin' eyes, they see this as a risk. Why a risk? "Well, if our @#%% is making us a @#%% ton of money but it's not quality, what happens if we meet quality then? NO MONEY?!?! OHNOES." So they're taking the safe route.
I don't see why everyone and their grandma loves Rush. I though that game was pure horrid garbage. The physics were poopoo, the level design had next to no exploration, (I like speed in my Sonic, but this was, literally, Sonic: Push Forward and Win edition), the soundtrack, while neat if I were playing Jet Set Radio, didn't fit the game at all, (with the exception of two very nice tracks), and what the flip was up with the jumping? THE JUMPING? As soon as you let go of the jump button he PLUMMETS to the ground. Not a progressive jump peak, wavering for a second, and then a gradual fall. It's like "press A" BWOOP "let go of A" FALL TO OBLIVION OHMYGAWD.
I'll take Sonic Advance 2 & 3, thank you.
To be fair, Sonic Advance 2 was the epitome of hold right and win. Even the bosses were nothing but running and hitting, running and hitting.
Man I hope this is just purely 2D. First Sonic game to actually interest me in some time...screw 3D Sonic (Okay Sonic Adventure was nice but still)
Hey guys, wikipedia is hinting that the '???' console/download service is the iPhone...

Say WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!
There's a citation, but its broken, so I don't know where this "hint" is coming from.
I remember the first trailer for the new Rocket Knight game. It used the exact same format of showing us a brief timeline/levels of the old games. Then fancy flash to the modern look. Nobody liked it. The same can be said here. It's apparently not a good idea to put 3D models against sprites when the 3D models animation isn't up to par. It leaves a bad first impression.
But then the second teaser for Rocket Knight came out and it looks a little better. But we also got more than 2 seconds of gameplay to analyze.

Geez, the theme of "4" is not getting a little out of hand! XD

Well, there you go. |D CAPS LOCK FTW.
This game looks awesome.
When's the other shoe gonna drop? When will we find out that Sonic is voiced by Johnny Depp or some such nonsense?
Of course it has to be MS Paint. XD
Those are some amazing MS Paint skills....
Actually where I got those from. The person said he used MS Paint to place the screen shot.
First Time Lock Broken! Its the INTRO section, summing up the story of Sonics 1 through Knuckles [NOTE: The following italic text has been copy and pasted directly from the site. Sega has rea~~~lly bad grammar XD / =( ]:
Story thus far:
It began as Sonic's animal friends begin disappearing from South Island. Soon Sonic discovers that evil scientist Dr. Eggman has been kidnapping them and turning them into robots to collect the legendary treasure - The Chaos Emeralds. Sonic decides it's up to him to save them and embarks on a quest to free his animal friends. Sonic battles Eggman through many different zones. Sonic eventually pursues Eggman to Final Zone where the first in many epic battles between them begins. In the end Sonic is victorious and Eggman's Mecha fly's away badly damaged. Sonic returns to Green Hill Zone and re-unites with his friends.
Their reunion is short lived however, as Eggman resurfaces and begins kidnapping Sonic friends again, in an effort to create more workers to finish his ultimate Weapon - The Death Egg! Teaming up with the newly met, Miles 'Tails' Prower, Sonic embarks on a new mission through West Side Island in an effort to free his friends and ensure Eggman does not obtain the 7 Chaos emeralds to fuel the Death Egg.
Once the West Side Island is freed, Sonic and Tails eventually board the Tornado and assault the Death Egg itself. After destroying Mecha Sonic, Eggman flees and enters his new Eggman Robot attacking Sonic! After a heated battle Sonic destroys the Eggman Robot and the Death Egg begins to explode.
Sonic and Tails fly down and come across mysterious island called Angel Island. This island is floating by the power of the precious stone called Master Emerald, but now this mysterious island are dropping down to the ocean surface because the Death Egg had been falling on this island. Sonic and Tails are attacked by a Red Echidna named Knuckles the guardian of the island.
Knuckles steals the Chaos emeralds from Sonic, being tricked by Eggman that he is an enemy come to take the Master Emerald. While Sonic and Tails are entangled by Knuckles, Eggman repairs the Death Egg and preps it for launch.
Sonic manages to jump on Death Egg just as it's flying off. After confronting Eggman on the Death Egg, Sonic defeats Eggman once more and the Death Egg plummets back to Angel Island.
Back on the ground Dr. Eggman begins the repairing Death Egg again. Feeling Knuckles has served his purpose, he sends EggRobo to eliminate this potential threat. EggRobo finds Knuckles relaxing in Mushroom Zone and drops a bomb on him but Knuckles manages to survive. Enraged, the Wild Echidna sets off to defeat EggRobo. Meanwhile Sonic and Tails explore the island to find traces of the Death Egg and find out Eggman's fate. After and Epic showdown between Sonic and Knuckles, Eggman uses the opportunity to finally steal the Master Emerald and re-launches the Death Egg. With the power of the emeralds, Sonic goes after Eggman, who has taken the Master Emerald into space.
Sonic and Tails secure the Master Emerald and return it to Knuckles on Angel Island. With it's power restored, the Angel Island lifts off into the sky as Sonic and Tails fly off into the sunset.
But this humiliating defeat only serves to further Eggman's rage, and he has determined once and for all to rid himself of Sonic. Eggman revisits - and improves - the very best of his creations to defeat our spiked hero.
And so a new Adventure begins...
So no new information on the actual game's story itsel-- wait a second...
"Eggman revisits - and improves - the very best of his creations"
Metal Sonic fanboys, don't get your hopes up, it'll probably be the Death Egg. But, hey, we shall see...
There's also been something added to the NEWS section, but it's just a pitch or something. Again, nothing new. The Gamespot teaser has alo been added to the site.
The next updates will be to the CHARACTERS section, that locked link under "FEATURED" which will be on Tuesday, 11AM (GMT) / 6AM (EST) / 3AM (PST) [If I haven't mentioned your time zone, get a damn watch. Work it out yourself.] I'm going to be opptimistic ad say it'll HOPEFULLY be Sonic's animal friends (Flicky, Ricky, Rocky and Pecky etc.)
Next update after that is to the CONCEPT ART section on Thursday.
I have barely an opinion currently, my only disappointment being purely aesthetic. I was hoping for old school Sonic and pixels, better animation, etc...
I'll give it the chance I gave all the handheld titles (except Rush Adventure, though that's more unwilling to part with money/other games I want). So long as it's better than Rivals and Unleashed then we're okay.

I am pretty sure Knuckles story takes place after Sonic has destroy the Death Egg not at the same time as Sonic story ( that why Knuckles doesn't have a Death Egg stage). Also no Sonic CD. WTF?
Hahahah! Explaining Sonic CD would've been difficult. Very very difficult. It takes place between Sonic 1 and 2, right? Not many people have even played it, so they'd have no idea what's going on. lol Anywho...that story lead up was epic. They are for real about this...it's a follow up. I'm loving it. *praises Yuji Naka* But Eggman's greatest creation...the Death Egg was most definitely BA...and Metal Sonic is the schick[but considering there's no mention of Sonic CD at all]...i'd surely say it's the Eggsterminator. xD!
As for when Knuckles' story takes place...i'm thinking they just goofed. I can't remember, but Knux doesn't fight Sonic in Hidden Palace does he?

Well considering the poor grammar and the fact that a screenshot from Chemical Plant Zone was used when address Sonic 3, I wouldn't be surprised if this "synopsis" was written by some temp that doesn't know what their talking about.
And who knows, Maybe Sonic doesn't fit so linearly with the rest of the games.
Ooh! Maybe Eggman's "greatest creation" in Sonic 4 is Metal Sonic, and Sonic CD can be considered as "Sonic 5"!!... I mean, it won't be but thats why the term "fan-fappery" exists =P
HyperSonic2003 wrote:

*GASP!!!* I DO hope your being sarcastic!
I was serious until I ent to that place in my brain where I can rewatch any particular section of that game, and see that he doesn't. It's just a run through and he gets on that teleporter thing and fights Super/Mecha Sonic, right?
First impressions based on the teaser:
--This setting, unfortunately reminds me of Sonic Blast and DKC--it's mainly the fault of the trees ;-x
--Sonic's running animation looks pretty bad. Brawl still has the best running animation for a 3D Sonic model. Hopefully they will change it to give us the illusions he is actually going fast instead of just strolling in the park
--Ah ha ha ha ha they are using the modern design even though this was supposedly "a return to his roots for reals". Sega was even giving away wall scrolls that feature classic Sonic in a contest on their blog. I know plenty of people were pretty pissed when that happened. Excellent troll on Sega's part!
Overall...eh. I'm still not hyped up for this game. Sonic Team(assuming that they are making it instead of being outsourced to the dreadful Backbone) have yet to make a game that is good(not average or worse) and one that isn't marred by some awful gimmick. What I would like to see most in this game is momentum-based platforming/pinball physics and excellent level design. Though, I'm keeping my expectations real low mainly because the same man who directed Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the Sonic Rivals games is involved with this--good god!
Also I'm surprised no one expressed any concern about:
a) The homing attack presence in this game(I don't understand why it need to be in a supposed classic-style 2D Sonic title)
b) Motion controls being present in the PS3 and Wii versions(they could be for special stages, but you never know with Iizuka)
Also, Craig, you are a bad person for hoping a Sonic 4 will turn out like Rush and you should feel bad. =^[
Â
I kinda pointed out the odd inclusion of a homing attack[might'v been at another forum though]. I'm thinking boss battles might go the way of 3D or something. I could so see it. 😛 But...Heroes...was ok. I am at peace with that game. ShTH...I don't...really want to talk about it. Besides...maybe Iizuka has learned. And yes...I so see DKC as well. lol
Btw...where were you guys seeing the intro thing? I can't find it anywhere. o.o
Besides...maybe Iizuka has learned.
His last game was NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams. Didn't that game receive a very lukewarm reception among the fans and press alike.
...yeah...
Besides, he should have learned not to add any mangled gimmicks after one game.Â
Some people are upset by the lack of classic Sonic but can't express their disappointment as weird that seems. On some forums people rally against you if you say you wanted the Classic design as if they can't seem to understand the immensely simple concept of "This is being touted as a retro-style game so Retro Sonic should be here" It's like some kind of neural disconnect. Instead they brand you as a whiny Retro fan brat who is "getting everything they want but still being an ungrateful whining bastard"
Trust me I didn't beg for years for Sonic 4 like most of them did. But would it have been too much to ask for old Sonic? I mean really? And why do people like me who wanted this have to get kicked at? Weither this game uses modern Sonic or Retro Sonic the whole thing will probably end up being a rehash mix mash of the older games anyway. Nothing new except the story they tack onto it.
There's a difference between being sad that retro Sonic wasn't used and being just plain HOMICIDAL that retro Sonic wasn't used.
If nothing else he'd better be DLC
I doubt they would ever change it now - they've marketed that 'hog style for years as their poster child, and he's been this way for longer than the previous incarnation at this point. I'm more inclined to believe they simply meant in oldschool Gameplay and level design, not overall character design when they said the whole 'back to roots' thing..
Green-eyes is going nowhere, basically.
Those links don't work for me. They've been yukated.
Oh it doesn't matter. I think someone took what they said and just made a big post on the previous page
Me, I love new Sonic. That design has been perfect to me since SA1. He just tends to have very little personality, whereas those tiny sprites from nigh of 20 years ago just oozed attitude. Granted, "attitude" went out with the 90's, but they still need to give the Sonic you're playing some character.
Btw...where were you guys seeing the intro thing? I can't find it anywhere. o.o
http://www.sonicthehedgehog4.com
Look at the top left, in a box marked "GAME INFO" and click the link marked "INTRO"...
...OR, go to the bottom of page 16 of this topic, I've copied the text over.
They kinda screwed up the order of events for Sonic 3, didn't they? :
It's funny there are still people out there that think Sonic and Knuckles' single player modes happened in parallel...
*does the math*
That would require 2 Master Emeralds and two Angel Islands wouldn't it?
HA! Thanks Blue. And as crazy as this is going to sound...that intro link was there earlier when I was asking the question. I thought that's where it would've been, but...it wasn't. o.o *shrugs*
I was expecting Sonic to look more like this:
i.e. his post-SA1 look in a more classic-y style.
Also, can´t help but agree on his running animation looking a little off.
What worries me a bit is how badly written the intro on the site is, you´d think SEGA would have literate employees to write a story summary for one of their biggest franchises?
Still, here´s hoping this turns out well, the old storyline was pretty cool and it seems we might have more epic battles against robotic counterparts. Hopefully they can also come up with something more original for the last zones than "oh hi, i has deth egg agen, com get me in spaec, lol".
The impression I get from SEGA is that a Sonic game that is "boring" like the classics won´t sell well on a disc.
Which is why they´re making this game download-only so they don´t need
to add "new cool characters and gimmicks" to cater to the "new fans = biggest money source".

Yea really...that would've been an awesome look for him. And oh man...I totally forgot about bosses. I was so caught up...on just gameplay and stuff. They should have some killer BA robots by now. As for the last zone...I mean...if it works do it. Change it up a bit I suppose, but don't try anything too outlandish. Take a page from Mario's book...stick to your formula that works. As for a download only...I don't mind. Less software to deal with. 😛
I get a feeling that this game will end up like Journey of Dreams. Kindaaa not a good thing though considering how high this bar is possibly being set.
NiGHTS had a huge bar set for it considering how long it had been since a NiGHTS game had been made. Kinda like how it'll be if they ever make another Kid Icarius game (Or maybe they are and I'm behind)
It'd be nice if they had a return to those crazy casino styled levels.
(It'd be nice if they had a return to those crazy casino styled levels)
also water zones, remember when sonic could go underwater? now if you fall off in any sonic game he dies.... so frustrating cause i know sonic can hold his breath
on a side note, the number 4 always looks weird on titles so i'm sure after its done they'll make sonic 5
Rumor: Sonic 4 to have 4 levels
According to some spanish site.
preorderBtn1 = new preorderBtn();
Además, al seguir examinando, nos encontramos con el siguiente extracto:
zone1Btnzone2Btn
zone3Btn
zone4Btn
zonesBtn
They´ve been digging around the official site and found code suggesting there´d be only 4 levels.
Also 4 colored bars have been found, might be one for each level or might be something else entirely.
Although the "zones" thing could be a 5th one? Or maybe just the main page from where to access the detailed descriptions of the 4 zones.

"1, 2, 3, 4..." o_()
But wow...that's interesting Erika. 4 Zones...that might raise a problem. *shrugs*
Given that it's episodic Content, They WILL nickel and dime everyone for this game...there's no if's and buts.
There may be no way for them to recover from this - it needs to get better, fast!

Turns out Sonic 4's Sonic wasn't truly running at full speed in the trailer. Thank God
X3 well, those are the facts as I see 'em...even if it is a little dramatique'd!
Oh Lord! If they bring back the Sonic CD run animation...i'll seriously do backflips all the way to SEGA HQ. Hahaha mobius...you sound so serious. Good one. xD!
