I don't remember Scrap Brain, Wing Fortress, or Death Egg making me so annoyed that the game felt like work than fun. Though they didn't have QTEs, sleding, and Werehog sequences, and the levels didn't take an hour to complete either.

How about Metropolis, then? That's a better example.

Oh man, Metropolis was a pretty long level too, though it annoyed me a few times(blast those stars!), I don't remember being that fatigued to the point where I didn't want to play the level ever again. It's just that this level has a long of gimmicks I don't like combined with Sonic himself doesn't feel right compared how he was in Metropolis.

I just viewed a video walkthrough for Eggmanland, looks like I was pretty close to beating that level. Guess it won't hurt much to try it again once the X360 is free. I am so not sane.

I love Metropolis, had awesome music and lots of things going on at once. Not the best Sonic 2 level (can't argue against Chemical Plant) but still a lot of fun.

And Wacky Workbench, how about that one? I hated Wacky Workbench, especially when I'm trying to destroy the machine-thingy.

^Someone confirm that this also happens in the 360 version of this game.

You won't need to. I died during the final boss (360), and just cut it off; when I went back, Eggmanland was already selectable.

Btw, once the game is complete, you gain acess to an Eggmanland hub-world. Hurray for talking to robots!

Wing Fortress was Flying Battery's jerk older brother. And Scrap Brain Act 3 was just tedious, imo

The only flaw in Death Egg was the boss you fight by altering the gravity.

And there's Metropolis as other people said.

That and the subboss of Death Egg (Act 1) was kinda hard. Especially if you're doing a commentary... =P

The endless pitfall in Metropolis Act 1 can be evaded simply by jumping over the gap when you get to it or holding right.

Before I found out the trick behind the barrell in Carnival Night Act 2, I'd skip over the level and go to Ice Cap Act 1 instead.

Also, has anyone noticed little things while wandering in the 360 versions of Unleashed? So far, I've spotted some signs with a chao on a flying carpet in the Shamar and neon signs in Empire City levels saying "Soleana Hotel" and something that looked like it said "Chao Beans." There was also a food item you could get from Wentos, a drink with a chao on the label, I forgot what it was called.

I didn't think Wing Fortress was bad...unless you turned into Super Sonic.

Speaking of that...what the hell is up with this final battle? It's incredibly awful--especially the jittering framrate and lousy camera!

I thought it was a rule that all final bosses in 3D Sonic games had to be undeniably awful.

The last final boss I've encountered in a 3D Sonic game was Final Hazard. I remember it being meh, but the last two battles in Unleashed are much more awful than that. I mean there are point in the fights

The last boss also includes

At least the music is great.

Oh I beat the game some hours ago and I need to gather my thoughts about this game.

Final Hazard doesn't count, and I thought that the fight against Perfect Chaos, although rediculously easy, was interesting.

So yeah, beat the game today. Not too far behind Ashide.

There is a lot I like about the game and there is a lot I dont like about the game. But I've already gone through those really.

Too many QTEs in this game.

"Obligatory Eggmanland is a giant *#!@ comment." Its like they managed to make Dr Eggman himself and got him to design his own level.

Final boss never gets going. The Wii version looked better...

I just played the demo on the 360.

I don't think I'll get this game if I get the same feeling in all the levels. I didn't feel like I had much control over what was going on, and for the most part when I tried to do something it just got me killed.

I hate that you can't roll into a ball anymore.

I hate that you have to press a different button for the homing attack.

I hate the isometric camera in the 2D sections (thought it wasn't a 2D section at first.)

I love the visuals.

I love the music.

So there we go, the demo looks and sounds fantastic, it doesn't play well though. Definitely not my worst Sonic experience, but that's not saying much.

That's the thing about it though. I still enjoy them, though I haven't played 06. I just can't stand Heros... or, now that I think about it, Sonic and the Secret Rings...

Heroes has Egg Fleet, the only thing that gives me reason to put the disc in my PS2. The whole game may suck, but Egg Fleet is one of my favourite Sonic stages (why the hell didnt we get a space egg fleet level in Unleashed?). Secret Rings was so boring though, i only got to the third world before quiting.

On the demo, it's no wonder they held back on releasing the demo until after release. I remember the Sonic 06 demo getting negative feedback.

I'll agree with you to an extent on Secret Rings, but I sincerely enjoyed every Sonic game, besides Rings, I've played with the possible exception of Sonic Pinball Party. I said it in another thread, but I say it again, if it wasn't due to my loyalty to Sonic, I would probably say I hate Rings.

Played the demo. It felt like playing Secret Rings and Rivals at the same time, heh. Sonic controls a bit too loosely for my liking, though. Might give it a rental.

Ah, yes, but have you ever played... *pause for dramatic feedback* Sonic's Schoolhouse? I didn't say this one bacause I thought it was obvious that I'd never play it... unless I was being payed to torture myself. And as for Heros, there is one distinct reason that I hate it so much... Tails' Voice actor. If it weren't for that, I would have enjoyed the game.

No, I never played it; as a matter of fact, I've only played every console game, with the exception of Chaotix, the modern handhelds, and a few GG games which I haven't really got into much. But dude, no offense, but to hate a game just because of 1 character's VA is kinda stupid dontcha think?

You're right, and I know it. But in Heros, Tails voice actor was like nails on a chalk board to me... As Dane Cook put it: "It makes you want to punch a baby."

Haha not gonna lie Tails' voice actor was horrid, but I could stand it. I actually ended up enjoying Heroes after taking a lengthy break from it. I though Secret Rings was quite awesome[once leveled up]. It was just Sonic so that was a plus, with cameos by everyone's favorite sidekicks. And a new transformation, so that was pretty awesome as well. Anywho...Ramza if you still own Heroes i'd definitely suggest you give it a try again. If anything...you can play the game on mute. =P

I'll admit Darkspine Sonic was pretty awesome, but I hated the boss fight as it killed my arms; ditto on the mute button. Anyway, just as I enjoyed the games, I've never been bothered by the VAs of either group; though, I'll admit 4Kids Rouge and Cream could be better. I think the voice of Tsunade would make a good Rouge.

Darkspine Sonic was Renault Clio Sport Sonic.

So, yeah. Slightly addicted to the game now. I cant find the quiz lady after Shamar though. And GameFAQs are useless...

I still own it. I still play it to, just not Sonic's team since I beat it. And also, I'm fairly sure that the Tails VA in Heros isn't the 4kidz VA. I'm not sure though. They just don't sound the same. Of course I could easily find out if I had the time to look it up myself, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Sonic Heroes Tails VA <> 4Kids Tails VA.

In fact, while I'm thinking about it, Sonic Heroes was the last game before everyone was switched over to the 4Kids VAs thanks to the unfortunate death of Deem Bristow.

Want to know what's super cool about the 360 version? You can CHANGE THE MUSIC, and it won't entirely overlap the game -- it'll still keep the basic sounds, so it actually sounds like you seriously changed the soundtrack.

If you really want this game to go back to roots, put Sonic CD on your ipod, and hook it up to the 360.

Also, after viciously playing this game ... I noticed that going back to playing a game like Sonic 06 will truly make you realize how much better this game is. Sonic 06 feels SO, SO, SO SLOW. As do any other Sonic game before it. I love this new sense of speed, even though it is sometimes incredibly hard to control.

There is no official word. Some people hate it, some people like it. With this title, it seems slightly more people accept it than people who don't. Just look at how random the review scores are and you'll see how truly mixed the opinion is with this game.

On average, from reading reviews, most love the Sonic action, yet dread the Werehog gameplay. Personally, after playing it for a while, I don't really mind either or, and the fact I have 99 lives from playing Sonic stages just shows how addicted I am to playing them daily.

Whether you like this game or not is just up in the air with your tolerance to a some flaws, and your liking with the Werehog and Sonic gameplay. As a retro Sonic fan, I recommend purchasing it -- it's a lot more polished and fun than recent Sonic games -- and if you don't like it, just return it and get your money back.

I saw a review that said the Wii's werehog sections were slightly more bearable because of the wii controls and better platforming. Can anyone back this up?

I still think renting it is a better choice as you get to try it for a much cheaper price and you won't have to worry that much about buyer's remorse. Plus, I don't really think you recieve all of your money back if you return it depending where you purchase it. Alternately, if the game isn't as selling well as I think it is according to the recent NPD report, and PAL charts you can always wait a few months when retailers will significantly drop the price on this title.

Personally, it's not a title I would purchase and start over again as there are design issues that keep me from fully enjoying the game, which is unfortunate because there are some bright spots there I like, but the rest is meh to bleh.

Well, I've got benefits if I purchase the game. 1) I get a Werehog plushie. 2) I can return it within a week anyway 😛 But still wanted to hear people's opinions here over anything, I trust this place more than I do review sites.

I finally bought Unleashed today for my Wii. I managed to get my Wii to work again after a few months, so I'm ecstatic about that. Also, the free Werehog action figure I got with my copy of Unleashed is really awesome. Anyway, as for the game itself, I bought it only a short while ago so I'm still on the Apotos level. I absolutely LOVE the day-time pseudo 2D side-scrolling portions of the game as Sonic in his regular form. In fact, when I first played the day-time pseudo 2D side-scrolling portions of the game, my initial reaction was 'dammit, why can't this WHOLE game be like this?!?'. In any case, as I started to play as Sonic in his werehog form, it took me a while to get used to his combo moves and using his stretchy Ristar-like arms to grab onto bars and ledges. Sometimes the controls were somewhat unresponsive when playing as Sonic in his werehog form, even while using my Gamecube controller to play the game. I love the old-school touches they've included in this game, such as the loop-the-loops and item boxes. So does this game finally mark Sonic's triumphant return? No, not at all unfortunately. But it's a step in the RIGHT direction, in my opinion. Dammit, it's a MASSIVE step in the right direction. Whenever the next major Sonic game is released (not that lame-ass medieval kinda game which I don't give a crap about), I hope it retains the fast 2D/3D side-scrolling portions of this game but removes Sonic's werehog form. The werehog thing is cool and everything, but it's really just a gimmick (obviously at least partially for the merchandising possibilities! lol) and a gimmick which I hope stays with this game and this game only. The side-scrolling parts of this game are EASILY the best and most enjoyable parts of this game as far as I'm concerned. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm getting back to playing me some Unleashed!
