So Sonic's home world is a post-apocalyptic Earth? Never knew that. Wonder how the "Mobius" bit came about anyway? Had to be an Archie/Satam thing.
It's not post-appocolyptic. O_o Everyone's alive.

...last time I saw that story was in 1998. It was in the stories section of an online Sonic fanclub that I ran (before web-based forums became common). My frend who handled (and hosted) the website had the story up there. Since then, both our old e-mail accounts are long sinse dead and the web url is just a 404 error now.
Gah!!! This is getting wildly out of hand!
Defunct fan sites are not cannon sources of information. If you provide first hand information to quote, that's fine, but the Sega Sonic world has never been a post Apocalyptic anything. Only OVA provides clues to this being the case, and that is far removed from game continuity.
Sonic is not a super evolved hedgehog.
The story takes place on (an) Earth, and there just so happen to be talking hedgehogs. Think of HuckleBerry Hound cartoons. That dog's a mailman, but there is no convoluted Sci-Fi story to explain it.
Sonic is very similar to many of the tales of Uncle Remus. It just takes place in a time when animals were closer to man, and things were just a whole lot different then they are today.
Okay. That's understandable.
And that goes to show you that not everything you read online is accurate
I just said it was a cool story, that seemed to have some validity in the OAV.
And post-apocolyptic doesn't quite mean end of the world, just majorly world altering. Technically, after the extinction of the dinosaurs is post-apocolyptic.
The Anime, Akira (and scores of others) are post-apocolyptic. It's not the end of the world...it's the end of the world that we are familiar with ("as we know it").
ADV does a superb job at dubbing anime, the company is based in Houston,Texas and handles alot of the Anime dubbing very well.
They did a great job with Nedesico, a well done job with Super Milk Chan and I also enjoyed thier dub of Angelic Layer. In the studio ADV is very frank with leaving the orginal Japanese diologe intact, I noticed that in my "Dirty Pair" DVD only a small amount of the diologe was chagned.
I agree that they didn't do very well on the Sonic O.A.V., after all the anime itself wasn't that good to begin with but 4Kids does a very pathetic job on everything they dub so there really isn't any difference.
In the order of Anime destributers I know I'll list an order of the best to least.
CPM. Central Park Media is in Manhattan,New York this distrubuter of Anime does an adquate job on dubbing, not an great job but an okay one, Patlabor TV,Blackjack and Grave of the Fireflies were all done well. Oddly CPM mostly distributes hentai and now goes under the name Aquaplex.
Pioneer a.k.a Victor Entertainment is based in San Francisco it is one of the first companies that started Anime distribution back in the 1980s when mostly hentai was syndicated by the company it helped distribute TMS based anime and Sunrise material like "Speed Racer" "Lupin III" even "Tomoni Debuku"(Maya the Bee) and "Noozles" for Nickledoen in 1989. In June 1999, it reached the point of no return when Cowboy Bebop was choosen as Cartoon Network's first anime for a older audience. Victor knows thier stuff and uses veteran Anime dubbers for voice acting.
Manga Entertainment is based in Kobe,Japan and in Los Angeles, CA it has a rep for distributing some of the most impressively done anime ever, it first distributed Voltron with the help of Rankin Bass in 1984, and brought Macross to the U.S. in the fall of 1985 with the help of a small company Harmony Gold who was soon bought out by Manga Entertainment. ME has also won numerous awards and honors for thier work, in 1988 Akira became the very fisrt Anime film to get both a Japanese and American release within months of each other, it won a cannes film award in 1988 and was nominated for a golden globe.
When Macross Plus was released in Japan in July 1994, it because a blockbuster selling video and Laser Disc out there, ME also distributed classics "Patlabor, Patlabor 2, Shadow Skill, Fist Of The North Star, GhostIn The Shell. IT even has distributed some decent hentai under the name "Pineapple" including Masqarade, Venus Five and Office Affairs. Also the underatted "Campus" was released by ME.
ME aslo gained notority for "Perfect Blue" which satired the 1993 live action film "Sliver", the PB DVD beacame a worldwide success when it was released in 1999 two years after it premiered in Japan. When it comes to dubbing meterial ME is no fool, they match all the diologe with both the english and Japanese recordings, ME does a steller job with dubbing and is no wonder it's the top anime distribution company in the world. GIS:SAC is also owned by Manga Entertainment.
Funmation is based in Dallas,Texas it has some very poplaur anime but does a medicore job a dubbing and editing anime, I don't watch DBZ so I don't really care what the problem is with Saiyan being called "Sighyon", I noticed in Decetive Conan and in Full Metal Alchemist there are some very serious changes in the way the episodes are edited. But still Funmation is still a very young comany like ADV and needs a little time to grow like ADV has.
4Kids Productions, have only been around since 1994, the company based in New York City basically sticks to thier own rules and distributes only kiddie anime. 4Kids is very cynical about the content in Anime for intstance in Pokemon they wouldn't release the swimsuit episode but wanted to release the "Porygon" episode that caused a servere epileptic seizure outbreak across Japan in December 1997. Yes they've ruined Sonic X, in Episode 9 Amy's braclet is called a friendship braclet, in Eps 11 Rouge calls Topaz and old lady? What the hell?Yest I know about the S&M gag but the words "slut" and "tramp" could easily be replaced by "stupid lady" and "idiot". In eps 23 they shorten Miles' speech on the Chaos Emeralds, Eps 45 the fight with Big is cut out, the diologe from Rouge/Miles match is completly changed. ANd in Eps 52 it says that 6 years have passed not 10!
What I'm trying to say is that 4Kids Sucks! They are the worstanime distributers around! They need to get thier act together, and unlike ADV and Funmation which were both founded in 1991, should stop with the pathetic job they are doing. I hope that if CN picks out the rights to the first 52 Eps of Sonic X that Funimation can redub and reedit them.

Personally, this young woman finds it to be a much bigger insult to be called "old" than to be called "stupid." I won't claim to speak for the majority of women, but considering most people don't like to acknowledge even hints of aging and the stereotype of women always trying to appear younger than they really are, I have to go with "old" being the worse insult of the ones you gave that would be acceptable for a "kiddie" audience. ;p
I've noticed that among all the distributors, there seem to be two major factions:
ADV, Pioneer, and Manga Entertainment have shown to have decent relations with each-other. I have seen many instances of the companies cross distributing and producing licenses. The Victor Entertainment projects Nurse Witch Komugi, QEA Excel Saga, and Azumanga Daioh: The Animation were all licesed by ADV in the US. All three focus primarily on anime for Video/DVD and have recently made big splashes.
The second faction consists of Bandai, Funimation, and 4Kids. While Bandai mainly focuses on publishing its original Japanese properties in America, they have also licensed some decent Anime in English. They do a fair job with voices, but tend to remove alot of edgier jokes in translation. They are best known for Love Hina.
Bandai's TV dubs, along with Funimation and 4Kids see the most chopping, editing, and translation losses. They target alot of stuff at younger audiences, and exist primarily with putting things to TV. They cooperate very frequently with projcts and share alot of voice talent among them. Obviously they make most of the Anime that hits mainstream television, and is responsible for alot of the dislike for Anime as they tend to be the form of Anime that most people have easiest access to.
This is just my opinion, but I don't really have a problem with the anime Bandai or Funimation dub. Sure, it's aimed at younger audiences, but to me, it's decent. The major problem I have with 4Kids is the way they dubbed Sonic X. I didn't like most of the voices (Eggman was okay), especially when they butchered Episode 39 when the Chaotix appeared. Then there was Vanilla's voice.
She sounds like a kid, and Cream sounds too old for her age.
When Big the Cat and Froggy were there during the Sonic Adventure story (eps 27-32), they sounded terrible!
I just think 4Kids could have done better with the show. I was pretty disappointed.
tell me about putting in puns?/word play just to make the show a bit funnier really doesn't fit the English much = evil genesis(me)
and the 4kids aren't gunna be please when they hear this.
Auugh! Evil puns of doom! 4Kids does it alot, but if you really want a good laugh, watch the Freeza saga of dubbed DBZ.
4Kids has put in A LOT of bad puns. Right up until the point where they're not even needed. They also have this nasty habit of having good characters saying lame lines.
Example 1: Episode 8 of Sonic X
Tails was going to take one of the pies Amy had baked, but went right smack into the television, causing it to mess up. Cream and Cheese, who were watching Next's show, begin to cry about it. Sonic comes in to see what the commotion was about, and gets the gist of the current situation from Chris. Now, more dialogue rolls by before Sonic and Tails head out (I think-- it's been a while since I've seen it) and do you know what Mr. Tanaka says?
"I guess we have to call the cable guy."
You've got to be kidding me with that, right?
Quote:
"I guess we have to call the cable guy."
Del boy- Tanaka, you plonker!
Don't they have sat anyway?
Maybe. But I could be wrong.
Who cares about Sally!
It does not fits for Sonic to be with her. Amy fits being with Sonic instead of Sally. Someone take off Sally. Sonic please ignore when Sally is in trouble. In fact, Sally made some Sonic comics inappropiate by puting romance scenes.

Sal was never in Sonic X.. jus tSatAM and Archie. And some of us like Sally, like me. XD Anyway, just because you don't like a chara doesn't mean that others have to agree with ya. ANd frankly, we're not supposed to even start arguements about couples. Also, romance is not inappropriate.... ok? And this is for game and SX discussion... Sal was never in the games OR X,(Though I wish she was. XP) Blah, blah blah, just don't bash characters who may have fans. And don't spam.
He wasn't quite bashing not that it has any point in being brought up.
SuperExplosiveTails, that had nothing at all to do with this topic (this very very DEAD topic). You've been warned for crapola like this. Don't let it happen again.
