EDIT by Sam: Since the US is over 3 months ahead of us, I think this might be a good idea. If anyone wants to refer to events that've already been screened in the US or Japan, please be sure to make your spoiler warnings nice and obvious.
Not everyone's using downloads. 🙂
On with Craig's original post:
I'm as shocked as you are. But apparently Wednesday, ITV, 3.40pm is the first showing of Sonic X in this country. I checked Sky TV guide and it does confirm with the synopsis being a vague "Childrens Adventure"
I'm not sure if this info has been posted before, but I couldn't see it immedietly and most of EZchat seemed shocked and suprised when TailsFan89 announced it.
Sadly I wont be able to watch as I work and have no VCR. But I hope the rest of my fellow UKians enjoy it :p
That is rather shocking... I thought it wouldn't air over there until later in the year. 😮
Demand must of been higher than anticipated, if they bumped it up so early.
I was shocked aswell PSX. Again, only way we found out is someone read next weeks TV guide.
I think Fox Kids wont have it until late spring, it's not unusual for a Fox Kids show to be premiered on ITV, that new Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles series was on ITV for 2 months before it started airing on Fox Kids. I suppose Sonic X is the same.
Shame it's on at a time no one will be able to watch it without taping it.
BTW: Fox Kids = Sky channel
ITV = Terrestrial channel
Fantastic news. How ironic that it should be on when i go to college (and only 2 days a week too ). That won't be a problem because i can just tape it, but i'm worried that it'll be edited pretty badly - or am i just being paranoid?
wensday as in two days ago or next wensday? oo
becuase then i can watch it! *has no uni classes that day at the moment* right, i'm buying me some tapes!
This Wednesday comming Becca.
Unfortunately, the ITV Schedule says it's something completely different. All the other online schedules said the same thing too, I'm afraid.
"15:40 What About Mimi?
Triple-bill of the animated series about an 11-year-old girl who loves trying to sort out the problems of her family and friends."
Unless due to localisation, Chris is now called Mimi and the writers of the guide were very sceptical, I don't think it's the same thing.
Mind you, these might be out of date. I guess it could still be Sonic X, just don't get your hopes up.
Reaaaaally weird. Why would SKY have Sonic X listed?
<Investigates>
INFO FROM EZCHAT:
TailsFan (the one who awared me that the series was to be aired) has told me he saw an advert while watching CITV today. Couple that with Sky Guide saying it's on and I think hopes should start to soar.
Except those of us without VCR's *Grumble*
i hope it is ITV, i haven't got sky. o.o;
plus i hope they don't edit the cartoon any further, or stick a 10 min advertbreak in the middle. xx;
This shall provoke me to watch CITV for the first time in years. =P Good times, good times.
Looks like I missed this topic!
I've posted a notification in the US Sonic X thread too.
EDIT: Oh, and I'll be able to watch it without having to tape it.
Oh great. I'm confused now. It seems every source besides the Sky TV guide is saying 'What About Mimi?' rather than 'Sonic X'. Just checked this week's TV guide. Still, I'll wait and see; it wouldn't be the first time ITV have given out the wrong schedule.
My TV guide's got What About Mimi? listed, too.
Small note. I checked Sky Guide again this morning (anyone with Sky just press "TV Guide" and then go to "Entertainment" and press yellow until we reach Wednesday and then search out 3.40 on ITV) and they've updated the synopsis for the show. Instead of "Childrens Adventure" it now reads "Animation based on the computer game Sonic the Hedgehog"
Still vague, but the fact they updated it means something right?
its says the same on the Sky Guide in the Midlands too.
TV Times says "what about Mimi" is on.
Ive been watching that & have seen NO adverts for SX.
Then again, they put SU on without much advertising either.
Causing me to me EP01.
I'll see if I can back up SG with something else.
*bounces of to search*
Well, the TV guide that I've got says "What about Mimi?" aswell, but we can all just hope that it was a misprint and Sky was right all along...
the Radio Times Online (best tv guide there is says its starts on the 28th... but its the 2nd episode...
BTW, who saw the ad on CiTV
i think it IS this comicng wednesday, but so far all i can find is the 28th start date
Right you are...
"Sonic X
Channel: ITV1 London
Date: Wednesday 28 January Time: 3:40pm to 4:05pm
Subtitled
Episode
Infiltrate Area 99
Review
Children's adventure."
Seeing as it is the second episode, and it is a week after the first is allegedly supposed to be shown, I guess it could be a last minute thing, so most TV guides don't show it.
Really, I guess the only way to find out is to just to check it when it's supposed to be on.
it just doesnt get any better than this
Thomas the tank engine
Then the premire of Sonic X and on a day i can have the afternoon of from school
So if the 2nd episode is on the 28th, can we assume that the listing of What About Mimi? (Which is mentioned in both my local paper and the Sun), is a misprint? Well i'm going to watch it on Wednesday anyway just in case. Actually - to be honest, the show isn't all that bad, but given the choice of that or Sonic X, i know what i'd choose...
Subtitled?
well i actually thought that sonic x was great apart from the theme tune, but just the tune the motion in the background is good. i am really disappointment that it will only last on citv for 16 episodes
i must admit that i giggled myself silly at most of it. ^^ snf i recorded the episode to tape! oo *pose*

If you've checked Sonic HQ's news, you'll discover that ITV is planning on removing Sonic X after episode 16.
See, they can only acquire so many episode rights at a time, especially when they haven't even been dubbed yet. Sky One is the best at transalting things over and keeping shows consistent, regardless of the audience, but elsewhere, you'll just have to put up with it. If all goes well, they'll add it back in at a later date.
At least they won't go into re-runs. =P
It's usually the contract, and how much length of time they are given.
16 weeks is the right lenght for a cartoon series on CITV, and has mainly been that why for some period of time. Though it shall return with new episodes in the near middle part of 2004, and by then the repeats shall be on Fox Kids, and the usual Saturday mornings, on the Saturday show.
Don't feel worried about it ending at 16. There's still a long way to go, and so much more to see.
Just enjoy.
Fifteen episodes was how long the first season lasted in the US. Maybe ITV just have a similar contract with the distrtibutor.
Are we sure that the series isn't going up to ep 16, rather than showing eps 1-16 inclusive?
As long as CiTV picks them up from 17 onwards at some point, I don't mind. If they don't appear until 2005, then I might be annoyed. If they become a Fox Kids exclusive for three years, then I become angry.
You don't want to see me when I'm angry.
well as long as i get to see new episodes at one point it don't matter. The pretty annoying thing is that when it starts on fox kids it will be 16 old episodes, but thats fair, for the people that have not watched it.
I really do hope they show the second series...(ep-17 and up) But we still have a long way to go... so I'll be happy.*forces grin*
Be...Happy...
Its only a method of broadcasting-
They show ep 1-16 right? Thats 16 weeks worth of episodes, which is gonna rocket their viewer ratings. So, after 16 weeks, they stop broadcasting. After that, people are gonna check back constantly to see when its on again.

Actually, we are still in the first season and I'm gonna assume that we--meaning U.S. is gonna air up to episode 26 since most cartoons shows that air here has a usual season of 22-26 episode per season.
Oh and I'm curious to hear the U.K. opening to Sonic X also. From what I'm reading, it sounds similar and hilariously bad like the Canadian/U.K. opening to DBZ.
Now I wanna hear a clip! XD

HQ has one up on the Front Page News section, wouldn't you know...
Are they cutting it permanently at episode 16 or temporarily for the inane summer rubbish?
It'd be just like ITV to move the rest onto one of their digital channels the same way they did Transformers: Armada. A cheap drive of the digital engine, show us a little to get us interested, then make us pay to see the rest. Well I can kiss goodbye to the show if that's the case because trying to get my dad to even buy Freeview is like talking to a brick wall, in fact you'd get more from the brick wall. My dad's only interested if ALL the channels show something HE'LL watch.
Oh, sure, great that it'll be on Fox Kids... Just great! Not everyone has cable and I hate it when people assume they do like in that news article on the SHQ page. >.<
As for the time slot; it's awful! Unless they live nextdoor to their school then the chances of the correct target audience getting home in time to see it are minimal. The only people who'll see without having to record it will be pre-schoolers, and something tells me that it is not a pre-school cartoon. Spongebob Squarepants is a less intelligent cartoon by far and yet it's placed in their final Tuesday slot at 4:30 to 5:00. Whoever runs the CITV schedule wants sacking from the media industry. I'm just a media student, but I could run the CITV schedule better in my sleep...

Yeah, I agree. I also, well used to be until very recently, am a Media student and so I also know how much of a bad spot it's been put in, and most people won't want to go to the effort to record something they've never seen or heard of before.
CITV showing Sonic X earlier than we expected it is great, but it could ultimately be the show's doom in the UK, due to the bad...well...everything to do with the editing of the time slot and introduction sequence. It may well of been better if it had originally aired on Fox Kids in the UK, even if it was at the later date, than now with it's current position on CITV.
Because if the set-up of the show on CITV now fails, when it does come to Fox Kids, people will just see it on their browsers or TV listings and think "Oh, that again. It's been on for a while and noone has been talking about it, so it's probably not worth bothering with" and simply end up not even giving it a chance.
I just really hope the show does well, despite the large amount of errors CITV has made. It would be nice to see Sonic The Hedgehog merchandise in the shops again after all this time.
Then again, even before Sonic X was released in the UK, there was a shop nearby in Cardiff that was selling Sonic X Sonic, Tails and Knuckles plushies (presumably imported from America), and they sold out in no-time and keep on selling out quickly whenever they get a new load in, so at least there's some people out there who I know will be making an effort to watch Sonic X...presuming they know it's on.
The only bad thing about that is as of current I still haven't been able to get a hold of a Tails or Knuckles plushie because whenever I check they've sold out again .
My Sonic Sonic X plushie is getting lonely .

Eh? Color me jealous, but I don't think they came from the US.
*has A Level in Media Studies and a professional journalism qualification*
If they were genuine Sonic X plushies, they wouldn't be from the US. Did they have a Sonic X label on?
well, a good thing is that a lot of people know that sonic x was coming on citv despite the what about mimi thing. people at school know that i like soinc, and they do come up to and say hey do you know there is a new sonic cartoon on. witch is then followed by i wont be able to watch it though i will be on the bus. so it is a tricky task

If you want an example of such, see Sailor Moon and how R was never Finished over here. (We got a few episodes of what toonami called "Luna Eclipse" (the last 17) but that was it). The Up on the roof Coverage for that was stupid. End of story
[notice the new sig-banner!? ^^]
I admit I was suprised to see a different opening to the US. But heres something..
You notice that under the SX logo it prints "(C)Sonic Project". Now, from the AVI of the US opening Ive downloaded, doesnt print this. Its also on the Jap opening. This could mean the opening was done by TMS instead of 4kids.
And with sonic X finishing at "week 16" im not suprised. They did the same with SU. It'll probably return in Sept.
But if the viewer ratings sky-rocket while its on, they may change their minds & show it during the summer holls.
according to SHQ were at week 4 now so.......*makes some calculations*...sonic X will end at...EP#12. if so, isnt that part 1 of a 2 parter?
hey....Im sensing a "se did it to SU, lets do it to SX" thing here.
PLEASE let me be wrong!!!!!!!
On a brighter note...Id like to congratulate ITV for only making ONE cut. [knuckles punching the rock] other than that they left the Episode alone. [Apart from the intro]
and man, it is just cool to see Sonic back on TV again!
At least we have SOMETHING to watch now...
Consider it like almost compensation for SatAM's demise, and enjoy it for the cool, is somewhat poorly scripted in places, show it is.
{ I will be watching religiously, LOL. }
Last night, I was thinking how hilarious it would be if they got thousands of pieces of Sonic art from 12-16 year olds (or at least more than the younger generation) and ITV realise that they've got the wrong target audience. Not likely to happen, but would be good, nonetheless.
Judging by the time they have it on now, though, by Thursday all the nursery kids'll be saying things like "I can't beeweeve Cweamy Dweamy and Sonic X are wobots! n.N" (as at the very beginning of the episode this scientist bloke on the telly says that the only way Sonic could reach those speeds is if he was a robot, despite Chris saying about half a minute later that it isn't true. Hopefully that doesn't need to be in spoiler tags, since it's not an essential plot point)
