There I was, compiling a table with japanese vocabulary on Word so I could print it out for easier study...
when I suddenly stumble upon the word "駅å‰" (read: ekimae), which literally means "in front of the (train) station", but is usually used as "area near the station".
When looking it up to copypaste the kanji and kana I find the following:
(read:ekimaehiroba)
Could it be that Sonic Adventure's "Station Square" may be just a name for the area around the train station, which makes up the adventure field, and NOT the city as previously thought?
DISCUSS!
Haha! Erika, Erika...your dorkiness amazes me. lol I'm thinking Sega was actually trying to be clever and put that in there as a sort of easter egg type thing. You should email them and tell them what you've discovered...maybe they'll take you in as a story writer and we can feed our ideas to you and bring the Sonic series back to the epitome of blissful gaming.
O.o um......well...It could go both ways. I though the name "Station Square" was a cute name for the city as a whole.
That is very weird.
Yet still interesting.
Yeah, I always assumed that Station Square was just a "suburb" of a larger city (the one that shows up again in SA2, Shadow, etc.). Never thought that Station Square was the city itself.
Station Square is Manhattan to Central City's New York City.

Nice comment.
What about SA2's San Fransisco then?
XD why were we all convinced that that SA2 takes place in san fransisco? The hills?
Actually...I want to say Yuji Naka had visited San Fran...wait no...that was Sonic 2[or some other Genesis era] inspiration I think. But the bridge man. Radical Highway is totallly Golden Gate.
Sonic Team USA is (was?) in San Fran, and the stage designers were obviously inspired by their surroundings whilst toiling away on SA2.
Prison Island = Alcatraz

Since I live on the western seaboard there's no chance in hell I could know what it was you meant by that... if indeed there was an implied deeper meaning there.
Charles always wanted to build bridges.

Yea Sonic Team USA is in San Fran still I believe...but you're telling me Sonic Team USA did SA2? The same team that did ShtH? =O
Well, yeah. Originally, Sonic Team USA was composed of a few ST members from Japan that came over to quash SA1's glitches in time for the domestic release. They stayed on and were tapped to develop SA2 entirely (I assume Naka had a few more members flown in to speed things up, they had to finish the game in time for Sonic's 10th after all).
Ahhh right, right. Ok. Cool.
Who cares?
It's destroyed. That's good enough for me. For some reason, I hate Station Square. :O
I must admit, I always assumed (right up to Sonic X), that Station Square was exactly that - the name of the plaza in front of the station and by the beach (a part of the Emerald Coast). Not a whole city.

Wow! So much hatred for a place filled with such nice people and hidden alleyways to discover upgrades for your characters. >_>
