200th issue of UK Magazine GamesMaster ranks Sonic among the top 100 greatest games and characters…

UK magazine GamesMaster is currently celebrating its 200th issue with ranking both the 100 greatest video games and 100 greatest video game characters. Voting for both lists was done by the UK public, which the Sonic series did very well in both categories. Check below for the many Sonic games and characters inducted into GamesMaster's 100 Greatest Games & Characters:

Top 100 Video Games:
46. Sonic Heroes
44. Sonic Adventure
24. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
22. Shadow the Hedgehog (What were the general UK public thinking?)
21. Sonic the Hedgehog
17. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

Mario was the only other series with more games then Sonic (10 in total).

Top 100 Video Game Characters:
76. Amy Rose
44. Dr. Robotnik
39. Tails
13. Knuckles the Echidna
11. Shadow the Hedgehog
2. Sonic the hedgehog

Mario was voted as the number one video game character, but the Sonic series came out as one of the most popular series in the UK. Only Sonic and the Resident Evil series had 6 characters voted into the top 100, while Mario & Final Fantasy had 5, followed by Metal Gear Solid with 4. Thanks to The Godfather from The Sonic Stadium Messageboard for the information supplied.

Honestly, Shadow the Hedgehog beating out 3 Sonic games that are considered better, no mentioning of Sonic 3 and Knuckles (unless of course, GameMaster counted them separately) or Sonic Adventure 2?

Oh well at least Sonic was voted as the 2nd most popular character.

I apologise for my country? But yeah, this is quite old, even though I didn't actually read the top 100 games ever.

Its no worse than Game giving the bloke who said Killzone was his favourite game goodness knows how many loyalty points.

Urgh, the Game 100 greatest was an embarrasement. They listed Brawl as one of the top 100 when it wasn't out yet...

But it's no suprise that Sonic is highly rated. UK still buy the trash, still see it as a sign of hope that Sonic 2006 is not listed.

22. Shadow the Hedgehog (What were the general UK public thinking?)

Sweeping generalisations are sweeping . The voting target demographic of this magazine are foolish youngsters (gone are the days when patrick moore was the gamesmaster ), and a similar thing would probably be seen amoungst usian in similar demographic vote. Kids these days will buy and eat up any excrement that sega/ubisoft/endless fifa/nfl etc feed them =/. All "greastest game" lists should exclude any game that came out in the last ten years, therefore making people think a bit of past gold instead of listing a cash cow olympic game as their greatest.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but going by TV of such, don't most Ukian public top 100 votes get done by the publishers choosing the 100 entries then asking for ranks?

Just saying, you can't take anything like this seriously without a man in a monocle.
