Ok, this is a rather geeky question, but was there ever an official (read Segasonic) description of what the Death Egg was designed for. Was it simply a battle station, roving base, or did it have a super-weapon a la the Death Star? Yes, I know it had the Final Egg Blaster in Sonic Battle, but Eggman seemed so awed by the Eclipse cannon in Sonic Adventure 2, it seems unlikely he had already built one a few years earlier.
Further more, what was it's source of power? I believe I read the master emerald was being used to give it juice in Sky Sanctuary, but if that is the case, how did it take off in Launch Base? Speaking of which, what caused it to crash again after Sonic 3? Sonic was only on a scaffolding/landing strut during his battle with Eggman, and there should be no reason for the egg mobile's destruction to take the entire ship down with them.
Any ideas?
I'll never understand why the Death Egg is in a volcano in S&K when it blew up in Sonic 3.
Why'd you bump this?
Anyhow, S&K wasn't around when Sonic 3 was made. If you play both games together, the Death Egg doesn't blow up at the end of Launch Base.
As for the questions...got me. o.o
SuperExplosiveTails - First Warning.
DO NOT BUMP OLD TOPICS NEEDLESSLY
Eggman built the Death Egg in Sonic 2, it was designed with a huge cannon like the Death Star's which he planned to use to destroy Westside Island. Tggman wanted to use Westside Island's seven Chaos Emeralds to make the Death Egg invincible and allow this. "Death Ray" to be fired. The "Death Ray" was never fired, because Sonic travelled up there and took out Eggman, resulting in the Death Egg being consumed by fire and falling out of orbit. However, it crashed onto Floating Island, where Eggman tricked Knuckles into thinking Sonic and Tails were after the Island's Chaos Emeralds. With Sonic and Tails distracted, Eggman planned to steal the Emeralds for himself to re-power the Death Egg. He was successful and re-launched the Death Egg, but Sonic stopped him and it crashed down on top of the Lava Reef volcano. Eggman then set out to steal the master Emerald, which would provide enough power to get the Death Egg back up and running. Again, he suceeded through his manipulation of Knuckles, but Sonic chased him into space once more and defeated him, blowing the Death Egg out of the sky once and for all. Eggman, in a suit of armor, escaped with the Master Emerald, meaning Sonic had to follow using the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic.
The Death Egg was finally destroyed following ths but Sonic Adventure seemingly re-wrote this continuity so it's not mentioned, neither is any recollection of these events mentioned with "the Death Egg" appears in Sonic Battle.
Excellent recap of the "Death Egg" Saga. Personally, I don't see it being rewritten in SA, though. there are a lot of things that aren't mentioned from previous adventures, and the simple fact that Sonic and Eggman know Knuckles and Angel Island seems to be enough evidence that the Sonic 2 through Sonic and Knuckles events happened.
I'll agree that the Sonic Battle Death Egg was a little shocking, what with no reference to the earlier one. Then again, I suppose it might be a little odd for newer players, since it's been a decade since those events. If you were brand new to the series, and Sonic shouted "Oh no! He's built another Death Egg," It might be a tad strange. It would be like someone shouting "I wish Ray were here" in Sonic Heroes. It would come out of left field.
Also, the Sonic Battle Death Egg was actually the 3rd, by my count. The Death Egg MkII was the central plot device of Sonic the Fighters.
do not bump this
and what are you some kind of cold man
No, he's an enforcer of the rules. [url= http://p072.ezboard.com/fsonichqcommunityfrm11.showMessage?topicID=1596.topic ]Have you read them?

I TOTALLY wish that would happen. I wouldn't stop laughing for, like, a week.
Anyway, I don't think the Death Egg was never really described in detail.
Not in English translations, anyway.
Anyway, it was just a rather blatant ripoff of Star Wars's Death Star, because I guess the designers at SEGA weren't very imaginative back then. Although, It's not like they're exactly brilliant now, either.
Are you thinking I bumped into this thread? Well you should remember that one of the posting rules is.
Post a thread that people would be interested to talk about.
Well I was intrested in this thread. So I put my response. Are you just trying to get me in trouble?
You are in trouble. Warnings ahoy!
Anyway, the rule you quoted refers to when you start a thread. Bumping{reviving; posting in} an old thread is still naughty.
Edit: Oops, I meant bumping an old thread without adding much to it.
Yeah, there's a difference between bumping a topic (posting for the sake of keeping it near the top of the topic list) and responding to an old topic in such a way as to continue the conversation. I think you just wanted to talk about the Death Egg, SETails, but there's this kind of forum paranoia about people bumping topics and such. Just don't do it on purpose.

But, dude, this is the most awesome topic of all time.
I mean, seriously, there's this group of college-age guys in New Jersey who've formed a cult and are building a shrine in dedication to this topic.
No offense to the topic starter
I have ONE thing to say: Eggman (at the end of SA2) explained that he idolized his grandpa as a kid. The whole "shock at a WMD" probably came at him like, I don't know, finding out that George Washington ate babies or something (he never did that, I'm just using it as an example of. It's so unexpected and shocking, that it would have the same effect on us as finding out that good ol' Grandpa built a doomsday weapon was to Eggman).
I loved how they brought the Death Egg back in Sonic Battle (as well as Green Hill(South Island's been getting a lot of new foot traffic these days!(SA2, SA2B, SAdv, SB)))! My way of explaining Sonic's reaction to the new Death Egg is that he was just being Sonic: doesn't reminisce every 3 seconds, and thinks Eggman's a joke(a deadly joke, to be sure, but one the Blue Blur can always take down without breaking a sweat).
