A 3D engine by Damizean and Mark the Hedgehog, both of Sonic Fan Games HQ. Despite being a small engine test, this may be the best 3D Sonic game I've ever played - just look at how the momentum works very, very much like the 2D games. Loops are obstacles that you can't go around without the right velocity (although the level design presently just lets you walk around them, but still). Practically anywhere in the level can be reached if you have the patience to build up the exact amount of momentum needed to get there. And while the level design is presently a linear path above a bottomless pit, it's opening the door for so much more.
Download it, play it, and spread the word - this is how 3D Sonic should be done.
Controls
Stage 2
To run the Green Hill-esque stage, go into the Stages folder, and edit Stages.xml. Change 'stage folder="Stage1"' to 'stage folder="Stage2"' (or vice versa if you're changing it back). Save, and run the program again. You should be in the other stage when it starts up.

Eh, it's okay. Wouldn't pay money for it though.
While it's pretty basic, it looks good. I want to see you guys try doing something like a Star Light Level...

Considering it's a fangame I find it very impressive, and it looks far more like the classic Sonic gameplay than any of the official SEGA attempts so far, it just lacks all the flair and enemies.
I'll give it a try once I download it, see how it plays first hand and all that. But I have to say, the video does look impressive, I especially like the open world design of the level (from what I can see), it reminds me of Super Mario 64 in that respect.
I much preferred Green Hill-like place to the gray thing. Pretty fun. Now it just needs all the other things.
Like it? Digg it!
You can also make levels yourself! Just have a modelling program that can export to .b3d, AFAIK. You can make any level you darn well feel like, so long as you don't mind how the game has no rings, springs, enemies or goals... 😛
For being a spazzy engine test, it looks more stable than Sonic 360!
The camera messed me up while trying to do loop-de-loops and the green level is quite sparse but I see potential here.
interesting. if some enemies could just be worked in this would be awsome.
Man, this is pretty fun to play around with. Using the scroll wheel to zoom out as far as I can and trying to stay on the level is awesome =D
Sad how a lot of people may have more fun with that than they'll have with Sonic 360.
Key things this demo does well that, I think, should be implanted more in Sonic 3D Games: Rare pitfalls, Freedom, Speed.
It runs sluggish to the point of being unplayable on my computer. I do not know if the culprit is my Celeron D processor or the fact I am running it in Linux via Wine.
Probably both since I'd presume emulating windows would take up some processing space and this engine appears to be a not so low requirement program. Try pressing ctrl to disable the fancy water.
Is this still in development? Its engine looks very promising! Update it a bit, adding the essentials (rings, enemies, etc.) and with a community to develop the rest, this could turn into something amazing...
... Like Sonic Robo Blast 2, players could build levels, character skins, mods, expansions, etc. to share with each other. And with some fighting moves (a spin dash and homing attack) supplimented with online suport, this could turn into the next MMO game!
It has potential, but so far there's nothing to do. The graphics on Sonic are nice, and I like the zoom in when Sonic is doing a spin dash, but it needs better control, and a much better level layout. I also see why Sega put those dash pads in front of the loops. It's almost impossible to control Sonic properly through the loops.
Still,m it's a very early test build. I'm sure with alot of tweaking and some good level design and enemies, it could actually be something.
...MMO game? Why's THAT the first thing that comes to mind? I was just hoping for a strong single-player experience, not some online thing. I have Team Fortress 2 for that...
Sonic MMO... god, I can see it now: an army of recolored Shadow clones with eyepatches and whatnot, controlled by people going "r@wr! I R PK j00! CH0A5 KONTROLZ" Then people would be complaining that Ultimate Hedgehogs were overpowered. Thusly, people would want to have that class/spieces nerfed, because we all know that Chaos Control is epic hax.

Why? You may not feel the same way, but I think that playing a game by yourself is fun, but when you have other people to play it with you, it's even better. Compare:
>Time Attack
OR
>Multiplayer racing.
I'd much rather race through levels, interacting with other real people, than sitting down by myself trying to beat a score.
That's just online you're thinking of. MMO implies one large server with millions of people playing the game all at once. Online just means more than one person playing it.
I was going to post about how this is undoubtedly another fan game that misses the point, but it's not. This engine actually does do it right!
/having now played it I have a much clearer opinion. I find the control is a little too loose, and controlling the camera with the mouse is a bit distracting, and the level design is a little unfriendly. However, as a beta this shows great potential, and it just reminds me of what I've wanted from a 3D Sonic for years.
Somebody made a similar video shortly after you SH, but it has less info and less gameplay.
Are we supposed to digg him too?

Oops. Online is what I meant. My bad.
But don't y'all think that would be neat?
Huh. The idea of an online multiplayer sonic game both attracts and repels me. But more repel because I know that would be a daunting task that only the most talented bastard in the world could create succesfully.
Isn't there a project called Sonic Online that is doing just that? There's like several videos about it on youtube.
It's a Halo mod.
I greatly prefer the second level, feels far more complete despite the size, and the lack of that infinite pit fall help. I honestly think something very special could come from this, if SEGA sees it, I hope they have a notepad with them.
Open the Stage1 folder (in Stages folder) and screw with the "Diffuse.png" file for hilarity.
Remember kids: never edit games while under the influence of the White Life Force Diamond.
EDIT: I eat letters for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Holy crap how long has it been since I took that screenshot
That was back in my PC only days
Is that the mutated lovechild of Radical City and Radiant Emerald? XD
Looks like part of Reactive Factory is in there too. XD
Can you see?
The sun is shining on me.
It makes me feel so free. So alive.
It makes me want to survive.
And the sky.
It makes me feel so high.
The bad times pass me by.
'Cause today is gonna be a brighter day!
Sonic R advocates drug use. It's true!
O_O ! **brain explodes from the epicness**
**respawns** Huh, that's a pretty sweet Sonic model they've got there.
My bad, that is Reactive Plant, not Radical City.
AND OMG THAT IS SO AWESOME @ Godotland
Where the fun never stops,
at only eighty bucks a pop...
Now featuring Acrio! (of yesteryear)
Classic Acrio was best. :
At the risk of derailing this topic, may I say, Psxphile, that I bow before you for quoting the theme song to HappyWorldLand?
DW
I do what I can.
I really don't like the way the camera follows Sonic. If anything, it should stick behind Sonic as he goes through the loop (not in the way the videos shows).
Also, this is relevant to the last three posts in this topic.
That acrio looks way too white, he should be more yellow =O
Yes, I think that's because I inverted all of sonic's files, even his shading files, which add darkness.
Since Easter Sunday. Sorry, I can't share the levels. Hope you understand.
The video pretty much summarizes it, though.
Its just since its easy for me to check I look at your favorites for anything worthwhile, and it usually is win.
Now with this video you can see a combo of both, but it is glitchy. Nice to see what can be done.
