Has anyone got a good shot of the Unleashed map ... or anyone converted the map to flat rather than globe?
Any sources would be great, cheers.
I'm also interested in comparing Unleashed's map to the one on the GUN HQ's giant monitor in Shadow. I doubt they match up at all (especially as Shadow's map isn't seen for long), but it'd be cool if they did, and if Sega decided to stick to that layout for any subsequent games that display a map. I suppose I just like the idea of being able to say "Oh, this took place here, and this stage is located here" - a pipe dream to be sure, but it's okay to dream (and I shall - it'd be even cooler if the area SA2 takes place in matched a spot on the map...).
Well for the sake of comparison, here's the Shadow the Hedgehog map (at least the best shot of it I could find).
Well for one thing, the Sonic series never had a consisted map.
I mean in Shadow the Hedgehog, not only does it shows that Sonic's Earth only have 5 continents but they look nothing like any of the seven continents in Unleashed
The Sega-Sonic canon is f**ked!!!
They will forget the Unleashed location names by the time of the next game
Thank you all for your immensely helpful replies.
Despite it most likely not even being kept canon, I'd still like to be able to get the map, thanks.
SEGA seem to typically make things up as they go. I'm pretty sure the Sonic series has always been like that. I wouldn't ever look for consistencies in anything.
I suppose your best bet, Mortimer, is to hang around Sonic Cult forums or some other similar place where they dabble in extracting things from the game disk. There's supposed to be a PC version of Unleashed, isn't there? I think I remember something about that, but I don't know if it's out yet. I'd assume you could take a look at the texture for the world in the game's files.
Presumably, the world upon which the main events of the Sega-Sonic universe transpire happens to be Earth..... or at least a version of Earth containing slightly different configurations of continents and seas. Didn't some portion of Sonic Adventure occur in South America? I don't even remember, haven't actually played that game for at least a year (if not two or more!). What I DO remember is that Sonic Team travelled to various locations around our planet whilst Adventure 1 was in development and that South America was one of the locations they travelled to. 'Mobius' is an invention by Sega of America, I don't think that name has ever been mentioned in any of the original Japanese manuals. The main Sonic world appears to quite clearly be some kind of parallel version of Earth. And hell, Sonic's world even has a human president!

Sega wouldn't know consistancy if it came up and bit them.
I agree with CyberKnux. Sonic Cult would be a good place to poke around. Sonic Retro is also a good place for hacking stuff, and I'm sure both pages have links to other Sonic hacking websites.

Except most Sonic games took place on different islands. So of course, they didn't have to be consistent back then.
To be fair, it's also important to keep in mind that the Unleashed globe is not meant to contain every landmass. After all, Angel Island is absent.

What about "Planet Freedom" ? That Sonic movie had a lot of Sonic Team staff in the credits. Is that the true home of Sonic?
if u think about it, the sonic movie would be another problom for the world map. in the movie sonic's home is apart of floating islands that surround the planet called the "land of the sky" which as you kno sonic lives on the south island while robotnik lives on the planet which is the "land of darkness". now this map could have been in a possibly future but i'm not convinced.
and did anyone catch the building sonic was on, i think it was the Empire state building?
The contenants on Sonic's world move as fast as he does =D This explains all the volcano levels.
Wasn't that Sonic movie it's own little continuity anyway?
i suppose, but i would have expected the landscape to be as it was in the 16-bit games which was a bit of a lit down for me
http://forums.sonicretro....pic=14100&st=0 Hahaha! Check it out, scanned pages of the old Sonic Bible(s) that SEGA and businesses making products for SEGA had a hand on.
Sonic goes from growing up in Nebraska, to growing up in Green Hill Zone in Mobius. Pretty interesting.
I wonder what the current Bible says, as I'm sure there is one.

Yeah, it wasn't part of the Sega-Sonic canon. It was just a cool diversion.
