in the events that past after sonic heroes do you believe the metal sonic in sonic heroes is the same one or another copy

The Metal Sonic introduced in Sonic CD has always had a consistant design, unlike the "Mecha/Robo" Sonic of Sonic 2 and 3/K. So if it is our chest fanned metal badass, it will be the same one.

Sonic Heroes one especially more so as his primary motivation is to become more than the sum of his parts and completely surpass and destroy Sonic.

I must admit I have not played Sonic Rivals (and have no intention to) and I would personally take offense to the idea of the rebellious and solitary Metal Sonic of Heroes now taking orders again without a story given reason, it is the least of Rival's script problems. The Nega Eggman paradox takes the prize there.

I feel it's best to ignore translations and plot holes and go with what your eyes see and as Metal Sonic is Metal Sonic, Rivals Metal Sonic is still Metal Sonic.

EDIT: Research GET. The Rivals 2 version is referred to in the story as Metal Sonic 3.0 and is a copy made by Eggman Nega. My apologies for the confusion.

Two Metal Sonics in Rivals 2.

There is the normal one, who acts as a communicator between Shadow and Eggman.

Then there is the 3.0 one which is Black and Yellow and a copy made by Eggman Nega. And is a boss.

Weren't there plenty of Metal Sonic's in Knuckles Chaotix too? Including a giant bronze version?

Never played Chaotix but I remember the sprites.

Weren't there a couple of robotic versions of Sonic floating inside a couple of capsules in Sonic Adventure 1? I think one of them was Metal Sonic (the one which debuted in Sonic CD) and the other one was either Silver Sonic or Mecha Sonic. Can't remember exactly. In any case, I don't think Sonic Team at that stage had any specific plans to bring back Metal Sonic for Heroes.

Mecha Sonic and Silver Sonic are technically the same robot, Rishi XD;
I think in the games though, it's called Mecha Sonic. I may be off though. I think Silver Sonic was just a name that came from Archie and then made it's way into game fanon.

Silver Sonic was the penultimate boss in Sonic 2 - it's not just an alternative name for Metal.

I coulda sworn that the Sonic robot in Sonic 3 & Knuckles was just the robot from Sonic 2, rebuilt to be a larger threat. Oh well.

Weren't both the names 'Mecha Sonic' and 'Silver Sonic' made by the Sonic fandom to differentiate the Sonic robots in S2 and S3&K? I can't remember if those names were ever used in an official sense in the Sega-Sonic canon. But 'Metal Sonic' is definitely an official name.

Yea i'm with Toby. I thought the one from Sonic 2 was Silver Sonic[or Mecha Sonic] then the one in S3&K was Mecha Sonic mk. II or something. The rebuilt one. Either way...I want to play Sonic 2 again. Think i'll do that one weekend. I love those robotic Sonics.

A Japanese Sonic Jam strategy guide (officially endorsed by Sonic Team) referred to the robot Sonic clone as "The Mechanical Sonic" in English and "Mecha Sonic" when written in Japanese, for both S2 and S&K. Naturally, the robot Knuckles in Sonic Advance is referred to the same way, according to a translation of the japanese Sonic Advance guide.

"Silver" Sonic was first (and only) used in the American (and Europe?) instruction manuals for Sonic 2 Master System/Game Gear versions.

These are just off the top of my head, right now I don't have time to confirm w/ links. Sorry.

There was definitely only one Metal Sonic in Knuckles' Chaotix, and it the one from Sonic CD

I always thought the robot in the 16-bit Sonic 2 was Mecha Sonic, and the one in the 8-bit Sonic 2 was Silver Sonic.

Mecha Sonic = Silver Sonic

Sheesh, do Sonic fans STILL have this argument?

To be fair, it's a legitimate arguement, given the "facts" imply that the Sonic 2 robot was upgraded to the S3&K version and then reverted back to the Sonic 2 version for it's cameo in SA1.

It's easier and probably more logical to assume that despite their names and identical movesets, they are two seperate robots as the Sonic 2 version shows up after the upgraded S3&K version.

To be honest, I don't care enough to make an arguement, but it's not like Eggman has reservations about building multiple robots and giving them the same name.

I agree with Craig, the model in Sonic Adventure has always made me think of the one from Sonic 2.

I always thought it looked like more of a mix. It's basic design was closer to the robot seen in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but it's coloring was similar to the robot in Sonic 2.

i had always thought of eggman as the kind to scrap anything that just couldn't cut it besides metal sonic.

i suppose none were more promising than metal
