I would NOT like to see Sonic combined with Iron Maiden-esque music >_<
Sonic is NOT hardcore, no matter what some people like to think.
Shadow seems more suitable to Death metal, IMO.
"No! he's EMO!"
YOU think he's emo. That is not how Sonic Team portrays him.

I guess, though it's lame, Sonic probably listens to either hip hop or techno. Remember that Sonic is a DJ at a SEGA club (or whatever), so, if anything, Sonic Team is portraying him as that kind of character. Which means that it's fact =P.

SONIC'S A RAVER xD!

if u play iron maiden's The Trooper while playing sonic adventure 2 metal harbor with sonic.. it really does fit honestly, not the lyrics but just the music.

and in response to the rave.. we already have insane rabbits in the rave music dept. sorry

How the hell would Shadow fit with the aestetic or sound of Death Metal at all?

Seriously, look up some Cannibal Corpse lyrics and then come back and tell me that's Shadow.

Music written by Yuzo Koshiro.

Or Richard Jacques, for that matter.

I don't really want to read Cannibal Corpse lyrics.
But I can tell you that heavy metal suits Shadow waay more than it does Sonic.
Shadow is portrayed as a bad-ass <shrug>

Maybe Sonic would have listened to Cannibal in 1993, so I guess I can understand what you're sayin'.

^Yeh, that'd fit too.
I could imagine Sonic kickin' it with some Blink =P.
Though the thought saddens me >_>

For some reason, I can totally see Sonic with "The Touch" playing in the background.

Level music has to be mostly upbeat and fun, crazy and playful. See Sonic Rush's music.

I've always thought a good theme for Sonic would be "I Go to Extremes" by Billy Joel. But that's just me.

I gotta say, the Jet Set Radioeque Sonic Rush soundtrack fits Sonic like a glove. Give us more upbeat tempo dance type music for Sonic. Leave the "@#%$ rock", as it's commonly known (SPENCEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!! I'LL GET YOU FOR CD!!!) for Tails... and I suppose Knux can be ghetto. Only if Rouge ditches the "romance" music and switches it for basstastic 70's "romance" music, which involves afros.

On topic, agreeing with Craig on Rush soundtrack. It's got the right "kick".

Craig only likes it cause it's called "Rush". He is subconsciously confused by the game's title.

I thought Rouge's music in SA2 was fine for her, really. I liked the scatty stuff.

I've been thinking about this myself for a while now, and I think Sonic needs something that sounds destinctive and fun, both suiting Sonic himself and each level he's in, and I always think of Angels With Burning Hearts, from Burning Rangers when thinking of a style that would suit him. As for for other characters, I think Knuckles' SA1 theme worked well, and Believe in Myself suited Tails perfectly. Eggman though, I love his SA2 theme, so something similar to that.

It just hit that for Shadow and/or Eggman, anything in the style of Orgy/Julien-K seems to fit.

The stuff from the genesis games. Also for some reason, bad early 90's R&B makes me think of Sonic, too.

The Crystal Method.

Hm.

Maybe even Wolfmother.

Maybe even Led Zeppelin

Fixed. I don't see why you'd list a tribute band instead of the actual thing o.o

Relly? I sorta thought it was too hardcore for him -
Then again, the SA2 version sucked BALLS. Sadly though, it was closer to home =O

I guess my answer would be music that suits and adds to the game. As long as it does that, doesn't matter which genre it is...within reason of course ;)

Really, I've always loved SA2's version far better than SA's.

The voice was feminine? I haven't listen to it in awhile, but I don't remember the singer sounding feminine.

Green Day-esque punk sans lyrics for Sonic. But anything other than sporadic techno loops and samples is welcome really. God I hate that techno, rave, house crap.

Just felt like getting that out of the way.

Uh, Yeah. They are...or were at least. They weren't hardcore punk but punk none the less. Which is why I said Greenday-esque. Disregard any American Idiot pop-shite.

Just felt like getting that out of the way.

I lost my Sonic Adventure 2 saved file along with all my other saved games recently due to my memory card going haywire on me. So I happened to be listening to my Dad's Wolfmother CD while playing the biolizard and final hazard boss fights. That was pretty awesome.

hrrm.. I spose given that Iron Maiden is hardcore, so is Wolfmother. I like running to that kind of music, so I think it goes with either Sonic or Shadow, because I associate it with speed, ...and running ^^;

I really don't understand why you guys just don't type Led Zeppelin. I mean, Wolfmother's a cover band, so it seems natural that you'd just type out what they're covering, right?

Zep's a good one. Also I like to inject Queen into just about everything I do. Credence Clearwater Revival works well too.

Craig.

Why do you hate Spencer?

On a side note, more of Rush's music. I'd also like to see Yoko Shinomura of KHII try a hand at Sonic.

Or Nobuo Uematsu!

KOJI KONDO.

Am I the only one who absolutely hated Sonic Rush's soundtrack?

Getting Uematsu, Shimomura or Kondo would be pretty awesome, though. And if we had to stick to rock stuff for Sonic, what about Motoi Sakaruba? He made some pretty catchy tunes in TOS.

NO!!!!!

I hate it too. I fined nothing catchy of even slightly inspired in any of the songs... the special stage song causes me physical pain, and the rest are forgettable. Well, I guess the ending credit song is pretty cool though, what with the singing and all.

Hell yeah to YUZO though.

I don't dislike it, but I do think it's highly overrated. I loved everything Naganuma brought in JGR - I don't think much in Rush stands with it that strongly. There's some catchy stuff, and I do chuck the OST on a decent amount, but yeah, it's not quite as awesome to me as it seems to be to lots of people.

The Sonic game that least impresses me with its soundtrack (I like some of the songs a lot, but the stage BGM..) is StH06. It seems to be about the only thing that people do like about the game - in fact, the music actually seems quite popular. It's decent on an atmospheric level I suppose, but there's not much I'd really want to listen to outside of the game (despite that I still bought the OST... there are a few stand-out tracks that make it worthwhile, and I found that in time I grew to like some tracks I was initially unimpressed with from earlier games, so I just let it come up on my iPod on shuffle play and I'll see if my opinion changes in time).

For me, SA1 has by far the most enjoyable soundtrack of all the modern Sonic titles (mind you, everything about SA1 is my favourite something when it comes to the post-classic style games).

Yeah, SA1 had the best Sonic soundtrack! Luffed it, it was fun.
CK, was one of the standout songs in "StH06" "Aquatic Base Act 1" for you? That's prolly my all time favorite song from the new game.

BUT, the all time best soundtrack is Sonic CD. I listen to a mix of both Jap and English, tho'. I just think it had SUCH a unique sound, you know? It definitely stands out when you listen to it with other Old School Sonic songs.

Who did the music for Sonic and Knuckles? I don't think there's a single track on there that I don't like.

I'm with Craig. Also, the fact that Sonic is a known breakdancer has to be taken into account when considering his music preferences.
