Silver Sonic of course. I know this site puts him down a lot, but his design looked better than Metal Sonic's in Sonic Adventure. He should be in another game.

5: Chaos (Not Chao s. Chaos. One of the coolest villians in any game, not just Sonic)

4: Knuckles (Cool. Comes from Australia [Being an echidna, not actually coming from Australi{to avoid any confusion :P}] Need I say anymore?)

2: Metal Sonic (The ultimate bad-ass! He has a cool design, and is one of the few of Eggmans creations that stand even the slightest chance against ol' true blue)

1) Sonic the Hedgehog
Out of all the characters, Sonic is actually one of the most complicated. His personality is not as straight forward as it first seems. Where he's impatient, he's also determined. Where he's childish he's also loaded with a strong sense of responsibility etc.
Obviously he's the one who started it all, and that's quite impressive in itself.

2) Tails the Fox
I think Tails is probably the only character in the whole series thats actually grown as a person. Becoming (slightly) more independant and individual, he still remains what he'll always be, the smart guy with the affinity for mechanics. Besides, he can fly!

3) Knuckles the Echidna
I actually kinda feel sorry for Knuckles. He's trapped in a self imposed duty that he can never truely forfill, and is destined to be lonely for as long as he folows it. Despite that, he always does what he can, even if it's only for his sland and emerald.

4) Mighty the Armadillo
Personality wise, Mighty was never develpoed, but as a character he's very interesting. He's a kind of 'Quasi Sonic', similar in design ad ability, but remains unique. The wall kick is pretty cool too...

5) Metal Sonic
Ah, well Metal's just everything an enemy needs to be. He's got no soul, has no emotions, and can never really be destroyed (without being rebuilt that is). What peraps makes him so interesting is the fact he just can't quite ever match his nemesis, and despite his improvements he'll never truely win.

I can't limit it to just 5.

1. Vector

I love Vector's gameplay. He does everything 2D Sonic can do, only better - fast gameplay (horizontal boost is like an instant spin-dash), dashing/high jumps without a shield - and throws in Knuckles' best move too. He's got a great design, is arguably the most animated and expressive of the Sonic characters, and has good character potential (IMO - see why in my description of Tails). Alligators happen to be among my favorite animals, too, and a crocodile is similar, anyway.

2. Tails

Tails does most of what Sonic can, but he can fly, too, and has alternate gameplay modes as a pilot of both an airplane and a mech! He's a "techie," and isn't always loaded with confidence, ego, and <buzzword>"attitude"</buzzword>, which distinguishes him greatly from Sonic and Knuckles and makes him more endearing to me than either of them (the same thing could be said about Vector, actually, but since I'm basing that opinion solely on sprite body language and a 1-paragraph character profile, that depends largely on player interpretation). Sonic 2 was the game that REALLY made me a fan, and Tails had something to do with that. Tails stole the game. The considerable "cute factor" can't be ignored, either.

3. Sonic

In most of the games, Sonic is simply the most entertaining character to play as. The other characters are usually just as fast, but Sonic's special moves emphasize speed and convenience over exploration, which tends to give him a lot of replay value once you've already explored all the levels. It also makes getting around the level in general a bit more interesting and challenging. There's also something to be said for being the main character. Sonic is the original, and his design and gameplay were unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. All the others are based mostly on him, and he represents the series as a whole.

4. E-102

E-102's game in SA was spectacularly fun, but much too short. 10 levels like E-102's Hot Shelter would have been even better than Sonic's game. That wheel mode is lots of fun, too. Great character who had some of the best scenes in SA.

5. Espio

I just love Espio's design and the expressive nature of his animations. His moves are unique and extremely novel, but Chaotix never really took advantage of them.

6. Metal Sonic

It's a great boss, a great design, and the best Sonic rival. Metal Sonic's appearance in Stardust Speedway is still one of the best parts of the whole series.

7. Knuckles

Knuckles is lots of fun to play in 2D, although he hasn't been a very useful character in the SA series. He's an interesting character and the perfect rival/complement to the less serious Sonic.

I don't really have an explanation for this, but I just REALLY like them! What's up with Gamma dying at the end of SA? And Chaos never returned! Except in multiplayer. Tails Doll hasn't returned... Oh well... maybe in the next sonic game? I can only wish!

Many already know that I worship a certain black and red bad@$$ hedgehog *adds another candle to her shrine of Shadow* so that's out of the way...

#2: Metal Sonic. The fight scene between him and Sonic in the anime, MMWAH! Beautiful. Metal Sonic rules

#3: Chaos!! The Coolest, freakiest, awesomest, most original badguy.

#4: Miles "Tails" Prower, because he's dang cute and super efficiant.

#5: Mighty the Armadillo! In Knuckles' Chaotix, I've tried every single character, but Mighty is the only one I use over and over. His wall-kicking trick has to be one of my favorite techniques of all the Sonic games.

Dems are mah favoreets.

OKay, its a very hard decision, since I like almost all the main characters. ^^

My top fave? That would have to be Knuckles. He's very useful in S&K and those kinds of games, and was the kind of "into" person to a whole new race. I don't know why else.

Next up would be Mighty, because he's different, and I like different. He's just cool!

Sonic is third, because of his personality. I should take a lesson or two from him to be more laid back. ^^

I don't know about anyone else, they're just randomly placed in my mind.

Erm, my favorite character is Sonic and Knuckles.
Yes, I'm aware I reffered to them as one character. I like the idea of them teaming up and working together more than I like either one individually.

Ah, but here's my list:

Sonic - He's the coolest, the original, the most fun to play as, the most immitated, and the most powerful. He also looks the best.

Knuckles - Individually, I don't really like him much. He bored me. But the way he works with Sonic drags him up to second place.

Mighty - Mighty is almost everything the 'hog is, and a glimspe at what he could have been. If only he had made it to the 3D age so we could find out what he's like...

Espio - Espio just looks rockin' awesome.

Shadow - Fun to play as, and also rockin' awesome looking. Close competition with Mecha.

1: knuckels, he's just so cool te play with and i like his personality, he's just shy that's why he's so rude and he's a dork with girls so he looks a lot like me.

2: amy, she's my favorite character in sonic advance, finally some new sonic games worthy character, there's just so much new things sonic team could do with her and i like to see her get rid off sonic and get with shadow, they make the ultimate couple!

3: shadow, he's just cool because he's not really into that hero stuff, he acts tough but he's just nice from the inside

4: metal sonic(sonic cd robot) i find him the coolest looking sonic bad guy in all the sonic games produced so far and i was really happy to have him playable(too bad only 2p mode) in SA2

5: rouge, I liked playing with her, but she's only in my list because of her prospects for the future, i like seeing her sneak trough levels instead of searching gems, otherwise tails would be my number five, the coolest side-kick in the history of hero's.

1. Shadow. Definitely. No contest. I have never loved a non-human character, but I guess there's always a first! Shadow gets points for personality, looks, levels *He only got four (not counting bosses)! It's not fair I tell ya!*, and story. *hugs Shadow, ignoring the pointy little quill-thingies.* Shadow ish kawaii! ^_^

2. Miles Tails Prower. He's cute, he's a fox, and he can fly. What's not to like? ^.^ He's got a sweet personality and his levels in the older games like StH3aK were my favorites.

3. Knuckles. He came off as a bad guy when I was little, but then again I never really knew what was going on in the early games, I just played them (and I was usually Tails). Further delving into his story discovers a sort of sad past and a lonely job. ^.^; I love his look, even though I don't know what the heck an echidna is. :L His older levels are fun, and treasure hunting is fun too!

4. Sonic. The speedster ranks fourth. He cannot defeat Shadow in looks *is still hugging kawaii lil' Shaddie* but his levels are among the best. He is the main dude, after all!

5. Rouge. It's hard to explain this one. As I said before, treasure hunting is fun, and she made for an interesting diversion into the story *aaaah.. must write SA2 fic.. too much inspiration.. ^.^;* and yes, some of her parts with Shadow did inspire fanfic ideas from me. *But not Shadow/Rouge fics, nope, nothing like that.* It's also interesting to see her and Knuckles's possible future. I have a feeling that Rouge the bat will have more than one appearance in a Sonic game.

No. 1: Sonic. I've always played as Sonic, he's the original character, and one of the all-round best Action Heros EVER (who else leaps from a helicopter hundreds of feat in the air with nothing but a metal board while shouting "Yeah!"). He's not a 2 dimensional character though (no, not intended as a joke!), and he's dedicated and determined while still laid back and frankly reckless. Also, his levels are and always have been the best (in all varieties of Sonic games).

No. 2: Knuckles. A very tough one this. However, I always liked Knuckles since I first saw him, and his skills are ace too. He's also an interesting character.... why is he the only one of his race about? He's got an interesting past, and he's also truly an *equal* to Sonic, while Tails and Amy are basically sidekicks.

No. 3: Shadow. Even though I only got Sonic Adventure 2 on Tuesday Shadow immediately hit me as an ace character... he looks cool, sounds cool and also has some seriously messed-up mental issues. However, he can't top Sonic, simply because Sonic came first and Shadow is a version of him (yes, I *am* overlooking the fact he's over 50 years old, I mena in *game* terms). Also, he doesn't have Sonic's reckless, gung-ho attitude.

No. 4: Tails. I always liked Tails but until the Sonic Adventure series I wouldn't have considered him a favourite character. However, he's now developing as a person, becoming more of an individual, and also he does build some cool stuff. I also loved that *he* stood up to Robotnik at the end of SA2 without any prompting from Sonic.

No. 5: Rouge. Very tough one here, between Rouge, Chaos, Amy and Robotnik, but I realy liked Rouge in SA2, she had a cool plot, and her "scenes" with Shadow were ace. I liked the way she wasn't "overshadowed" (again, no pun intended) by Robotnik and Shadow and was a very strong character in herself. Even if her "Ouch" on the Kart level became annoying...

Between Sonic and shadow it was a hard choice, but I think shadow looks a bit cooler, but his mental flashbacks are his big problem.

3) Tails
Hes the only reletively young person in the games, he flies, and has two tails, need i say more?

4) Rouge
I love her attitude, always calm and cool about things (except when shes falling of the beam, but then again, who would be scared?)

5) Amy
Amy ROCKS on multiplayer, and shes really funny alwasy trying to flirt with sonic.

I just said tals before, here are my top five.

1) Tails (duh) Favorite game charactor of all time, love the flyingness.

2) Sonic- He is fast and has an late 80's style attitude good stuff.

3) Metal Sonic- Look at him hover and them red eyes, cool stuff.

4) Nack- I dunno he just rox.

5) Robotnik (Eggman) Without him, what is a Sonic game?
