Doctor Eggman is a man who grew up looking up to his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, who thanks to bad writing maintained between four different games, no one is able to decide whether he was kind hearted smart guy or devious revenge drivenly insane.

My assumption is that Eggman grew up, garnering his 300 IQ and wondered "If my grandfather was so nice, and wanted to make immortality for Maria while making sure the Gizoid didn't destroy us as it did the third great civilization... then why did he build a moon destroying death ray and make a pact with Alien Dr. Claw?!

So, looking up to his grandfather, he became a mad scientist and if Sonic Battle is to be trusted, sells his robots to stores as security, even though he is the world's biggest terrorist threat.

Seriously.

So, with his money and his IQ and the amount of LARGE FREAKING MACHINARY he has had to build (Final Fortress alone being one third the size of Earth, and he even had the manpower to build a SECOND Egg Fleet for Sonic Unleashed) it would be reasonable to assume he just built an automated construction unit.

Which means that in the heavy construction time between games (all of which somehow take place in the same year... uh. Blame the Time Stones!) he just sits back and eats some Cheetos, waiting until the machines are ready for world conquest...

Jebus, you'd think with the amount of floating fortresses, bigger than the planet it was constructed on, he would just build Robotnik (Eggman) Land in the sky and be done with it. It's not like he hasn't tried building cities in the sky before (S3&K). The only difference would be fuel to keep the sucker afloat.

Sometimes his master plans revolve around shattering things just to harness some ancient thing's powers and whatnot, only to have said entity turn against him and have SUPER SONIC fight it in the end and whatnot.

With how much time and effort Eggman puts into his plans, maybe he's just some crazy wacko with a tonne of money and resources at his disposal. So, he has to have a lot of time on his hands, and be sitting on a very large sum of money.

Somehow, I can't imagine Eggman taking a job as anything else. Not at McDonald's, not as a sports broadcaster, not even as a telemarketer.

Clearly Eggman trained with Fatman before the Big Shell incident. After all, he lives up to the man's motto of "Laugh and grow fat".

He also doesn't skate around helipads, firing a machine gun with abandon, laying down C4 wherever he damn well feels like, and then in the end stops it all to admire a bunch of seagulls, but, well, then he'd be Fatman, not Eggman.

I stand by my crack theory that Eggman is a renagade time wizard.
