This thought just came to me earlier today. I was wondering if a first person mode would work for the series or at least the 3D games. It could make the games feel more like a roller coaster ride.

I'll be honest with you. When I logged on, I didn't expect a topic like this. :p

I see what you mean by the Roller Coaster thing. That would, indeed, be pretty cool. But an entire game based on the idea would make me gag. Keep it limited to a few special parts, heck, maybe the special stage. That would be interesting. Maybe even make it a camera mode if someone WOULD like an entire game like that.

It could work. Heck, it can work - SRB2 runs ok in first person view. Whether it should happen is another topic, though. If it is there it shouldn't be mandatory unless it;s an integral part to the game system.

1st-person doesn't really work in any platformer, unless you're trying to look around without your model obstructing the view (Mario 64). For one thing, the entire control scheme would need to be changed, and that gives everything a very different feel -- a feel that seasoned platformer fans may get turned off on immediately.

Well it could work for Sonic Riders 2 but I don't see it in a regular Sonic game.

I think it's a nice idea, as an optional extra, or perhaps a method of travelling through loops, since they're pretty much mini cut-scenes now-a-days, why not have some obsticals to avoid in first person. It would give a great sense of speed, though I wouldn't want it as something I'd HAVE to put up with.

Like others have said, maybe if the first-person was either a)optional or b)only at certain parts.
An entire Sonic game in First-person would make a lot of people physically sick, I'm sure.

They wouldn't have 1st-person in a Sonic game. The Japanese don't like 1st-person, it gives them motion sickness according to some guy on G4 that's supposed to be some Japanese gaming expert/reporter or something.

I thought it was to do with a preference to actually seeing the character you're playing as. An interview with Hideo Kojima said that you can relate to the character more when you can see their face and reactions, rather than just their arm and a gun. And the fact that FPS are designed for PCs primarily, PCs not being very popular for gaming in Japan.

That said Namco made a First Person Shooter/Brawler called Breakdown, which is pretty cool in its own right.

I think Sonic spinning in 1st person mode would be enough to give anyone motion sickness. I feel sick thinking about it!!!:x

It's more likely go into third person for that, like Samus' morph ball in Metroid Prime. Unless you mean jumping, and I doubt the camera would spin in time with it.

Actually, I'd thought the best way to do it is to show a blue blur on what you're seeing, instead of rotating the world an awful lot (though some minor - MINOR - shaking might add some extra oomph). That way, you can tell you're spinning, without being too motion-sickness-y.

No. :0o A first person mode just sounds like a huge mess to me. I don't know, I understand that the new Sonic games haven't been perfect but as others have said first person mode just doesn't suit platforming.
