Word from a guy at Sega confirmed that even though "The users are always right" like he said, Sega's "hooking us up" on another date with a hairy, sharp-toothed monster we all know and "love":

Yup. Move aside good Sonic games, here comes a reincarnation of the Werehog.

Here is what the guy said:

In principle, I think that the users are always right. They're the ones paying the money and playing the games. If they don't enjoy it, they're not going to buy it. I don't think that producing the Werehog was a mistake per se, but there were a lot of things we could have done better if we had more time and resources.

For the improvements, I can't think of anything right now off the top of my head. If I think of any ideas then Sonic Unleashed 2 will be the time for that, so I don't really have an answer for that. But you will see the Werehog again. I like Secret Rings very much, but when it came to making (Sonic and the Black Knight) we chose to do something different. All the good things about Secret Rings belong to that specific game. So in the same way, unless we're going to make Sonic Unleashed 2 you might not see him again. But if we are going to make it, you might see him again. It's a possibility.

Bold = Why this guy may not know what the hell he's talking about.

Underlined = Where he's wrong. EDIT: No, wait. I mean if we ARE right, then why are they bringing him back.

If you think the users are always right then why the hell are you bringing back the hairy ape?

Discuss.

I'll believe it when I read the announcement from Sega themselves, not some guy claiming to work for them.

That wasn't the only guy from Sega saying so :/ I think it's true.

(Just played SU, maybe the nightstages arent so bad after all, the game just needs more daystages once the night ones get old.)

Isn't this a quote from some time ago? I think I remember reading something like this right around the time of Sonic and the Black Knight's release.

Sonic Unleashed along with the Werehog were an ugly mistake that need to be left dead and buried.

Edit: When starting to read the original post, I thought they were finally giving in and bringing back Fang.

lulz no XD

While I think that the Werehog could be improved if given more thought, time, and dedication, the damage has already been done, and if they bring him back, the many people that already dislike Sonic Unleashed will skip the next game.

Less combat, more speed... wait, cut down a bit on the speed. I don't want to end up stuck in a wall again playing Skyscraper Scamper day. :<

Haha, yeah. Anyways, Sega needs to like, maybe fill ST with people that care, and know what they're doing.

To anyone who's thinking about potential gapping plothole, I don't think they WILL need to bring Dark Gaia back into the picture for a potential Sonic Unleashed 2. Look at these shots from the games ending:

So Chip disintergrates, leaving his green orbed coller/neck-ring thing, which Sonic then picks up and finds it convieniantly fits on his wrist.
All I'm saying is that if there will be any Sonic Unleashed 2, you can probably expect Chip's ring to be the source of Sonic's Werehog powers.

It beg's the question, if this is the case, was this Sega's intention from the start? The news about the werehog returning came out quite soon after the game's release after all. What do we think?

I think it will be a disaster, personally.

Yeah, here's why.

Chip's ring wouldnt make sense as the supplier to Sonic's powers.

People already loathe the Werehog. No Sonic fan would buy it because of the Werehog's EPIC FAIL. Kaput.

Except for the bit where Sega have made it very clear that they're not catering for Sonic fans. Providing they can sell it to enough someones, they're not going to care. Presumably, if they *do* make another one, it's because they think they can shift enough copies.

Sega would probably sell a used puke bag with Sonic's face on it if they thought they could make a profit from it.

And sadly, there are probably people who would buy it, given the opportunity.

Wait a minute Sonic turn into the Werehog because Dark Gaia's negative energy corrupted him so wouldn't Chip's positive energy turn him into something different?

And thus, billions upon trillions of copies of the nonexistent game are preordered with extreme prejudice.

Prehaps some, maybe even a lot of people do, but not all. There are lots of sensible individuals who can see a degree of potential in that platforming style. The main reason that people hate the Werehog is that there was too much of him. But then even if the formula was refined and his use limited, people'd still have an unneccessary hatred of the Werehog. Shame really, 'cos I found it to by not as bad as people made out - although I personally thought that platforming style would have been easily been more suited to Knuckles - more puzzling and exploritory suits his style.

I never said the theorum was 100%. I just predicted thats what Sega would do. And face it, nothing has ever been 100% in Sonic. The changing locale of the Master Emerald shrine. The fact that the moon is still whole after the Shadow and Robotnik blew a chunk out of it. Does this look like rationale to you?

A fan's personal interpretation of her, yes. With the same name.

Well, Blue, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise isn't exactly KNOWN for continuity.

I can't say that the Werehog was an unstoppable fail no matter what they did with him; they just didn't do the right things with him. Watching the LP, they went through the DLC of the game and one level in particular had very clever level design and limited battles. If they had used that level as a model for the rest instead of Bashfest-Bashfest-TediousPlatforming-Bashfest then they game would have been much better.
