You're pretty much invincible to them while jumping, aren't you?
Plus there's a ton of light switches around o
But some you can't quite get to when you're more worried about the SAND THAT'S GONNA CRUSH YOU IF YOU WAIT TOO LONG.
Man, thinking about it now, those ghosts weren't nearly as bad to my warped little childhood mind as the ghosts from Bubble Bobble. Those ghosts were the DEVIL. Occasionally our rare savior if we're stuck somewhere we can't get out of, but T____T otherwise. THOSE things were horrible. Neither ever gave me nightmares, though, so I guess that's good.
In other news, that Carnival Night YTMND made me giggle. ^^

I didn't play it on Jam and am pretty sure there is a way through the level without that barrel! But I may be wrong =
You are. As Sonic or Tails that corridor cannot be avoided. There are stage maps online somewhere I would use to verify this, but I can't seem to find the site ATM.
And just for kicks, Sandopolis Act 2
Knuckles's Carnival Night is short. Should he of had a custom boss at the end of act 2 like Marble Garden? I don't know how they could work it in. Atleast Knuckles can get to Sonic & Tails's boss without debug. Infact ironically for me Knuckles was the first character to fight the CN act 2 boss due to barrel problems. No instashield or tails make it a long and hard fight. I remember I always used that path to get to and explore the "looped level" at the end since I couldn't activate debug at the time.
I guess I just never got stuck on it when I was little then because I've been far past that when I was just little =O
The music was awesome(some of my favorite in the series), I thought the 1st act's miniboss was interesting, but other than that, it was hell on the Genesis...
