Like most things that are worth owning, Computers are an American invention. Look at any modern computer and you will see that the whole thing is the product of American brilliance.

For example, this rugged IBM laptop I am using was designed and built by an American company. It runs software built by Microsoft, one of Americas most productive organizations. My computer does everything I could possibly want: I can do my work, submit my taxes and even search the Bible.

Like all the greatest American engineering, its an example of innovation that makes a growing group of European and Chinese hackers jealous. They hate our lead in computing technology and will stop at nothing until they have control of all of our computers.

Im talking about a project called Linux, something you may not have encountered, but might do some day.
Its a computer program that was initially developed in Finland as a means of circumventing valuable copyrights and patents owned by an American company called SCO Group.

Unlike Windows, which is a mature commercial product which is normally included with every new computer, Linux is given away. Now it may not sound like much of a problem, after all there is very little profit in merely giving a product away.

This would be certainly true were in not for the Linux projects seductive Marxist ideology and the effect that it has on Blue-State liberals. Indeed, Linux is so pervasive amongst the blue states and many liberal universities that a leading computer expert Steve Balmer (from Microsoft) described Linux as cancer.

The American software industry is worth more than $7 Billion; Introducing a foreign product like Linux which is often copied for free could threaten that entire industry. A generation of computer users might get use to accepting foreign software hand-outs rather than paying for a superior American products. If only the danger were just to our economy:

These days computers control everything from TV stations to battleships; Our crucial information and defense infrastructure is built on computer technology. If we allow this cancer into our networks, there is no knowing what the effect might be on our infrastructure, but that is just what liberals are trying to do.

Imagine if the State of the Union address were hacked because the TV station decided to save money by using Linux? Imagine if a stealth-bomber crashed because its software was written by anonymous Chinese or European hackers. It would make as much sense as inviting the French to come over and take over the White-House.

And guess what software Osama Bin Laden uses on his laptop?

If you guessed it was Linux you would be 100% right. Osama uses Linux because he knows designed to counterfit DVDs, curcumventing the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, and defraud companies like Disney.

Next time somebody asks you how Al Queda agents pay for their rifles and rocket launchers, you can tell them that foreign hackers make software called Linux which helps them steal from Americans.

This Linux problem is a growing issue, and one that conservative Americans cannot afford to ignore. Fortunately Microsoft have prepared a great deal of information to help computer users get away from this menace. But there is something you can do to help keep American #1 in the computer business:

If one of your friends is using Linux or may be tempted to try it show them this article. Explain that Linux is a genuine threat and that by using it they may be opening their computer to Chinese hackers.

If you see a company using Linux, it may be that they have not paid for this software. Report them to the Business Software Alliance who have the legal authority to inspect any companys computers for illegal programs like Linux.

Finally, remember to include Linux users in your prayers tonight. As individuals we may not be able to change peoples minds, but the Bible teaches that God can make any sinner repent.

I'm not linking the source because there are some innappropriate things deeper in the site - I've never heard of the site before, but it's a fake pro-conservative blog. And yeah, anyone familiar with the site will probably post that it's old - the post date was April of last year. Well, if you read it before, you don't need to read the whole post. ;D

Anyway, I had a few laughs at it, so have fun.

I confess to being a Linux User and a Communist. I found this article to be mildly funny though completely inaccurate.

I am a libertarian, and I refuse to support any person or organization that violates the personal freedoms of the individual something Microsoft is guilty of doing on numerous accusations.

You say that like it is a bad thing.

I have evaluated numerous software products over the years, and in my opinion, Linux and the multitude of open source software puts Windows and most of the popular Windows software to shame.

Linux > Windows
Firefox > Internet Explorer
OpenOffice > Microsoft Office
VLC Mediaplayer >>>>>>> Windows Media Player

Seems to work pretty well when individuals are allowed to practice communism in a free market, but everything falls apart when you try to force it upon the masses.

Most of the anti-communist arguments I have ever heard are based on the assumption that Fascist Communism(Soviet Russia, Republic of China, North Korea, Cuba, etc.) is the only type of communism.

Libertarian Communism can be quite a powerful tool for innovating and developing high quality products. Linux would have never gotten beyond someone's pet project if not for collaborative effort of a large community of interested programmers. Wikipedia is another result of libertarian communism that most are familiar with.

Would you not feel cheated if you spent a few hundred dollars on software only to discover that there are free(Legally) alternatives that are just as good if not better? I will admit that value is one reason I switched away from Microsoft products, but it is a difference in philosophy and morals that makes me out and out hate the company.

Which is why I simply said that I found it mildly funny and completely inaccurate. If it had been a serious article, I would probably tried to debunk most of its arguments.

Meh, if nothing else, I like that Windows lets me use all programs and run all games, is the same as what I use at work meaning I'm qualified and proffeciant enough to use stuff in the office without stupid NVQs (very important when I got the Paintshop Pro position a few years back) and it means I'm running the same system as the people I love and care about so we don't have connection errors due to differing versions of programs and suchforth (and I spent enough time in a Skype chat with Linux, Mac and Windows users to know how much of a damned annoying headache that is).

Biggest reason I stick to Windows, though. Because I'm not a coder and have no interest in even learning HTML. Hell if I want fully customizable open source. Give me XP anyday. It's simple, easy and if there's things like clearing the registry which I don't understand, McAfee or some other company will provide a cheap solution for me.

Given the amount of use my laptop and the internet in general give me, I think no cost is too high, and to be fair $120 for like 3 years of idiot proofing is a damned bargain.

Oh, and another thing. My laptop is on warranty which asks kindly that I don't mess with the OS or insides. Again, not smart enough to build my own PC, buying one in a store with Windows pre-loaded is so much nicer. I've never had any complaints.

I see all the reasons why a Linux user would enjoy Linux. I just think their arrogant and self-important to expect the rest of the world to be on their wavelength. You're superior to me, I get that. Do I wish to repent or improve myself to be on your level? No. I'd rather have my ease of use, warranty and "stuff I use in free time actually benefits my career"isms.

So, in other words. Good for you, you like Linux. Now stop preaching, we all have our own systems. Why try to convert everyone? Can't we be happy with what we have?

Apathetic. I prefer Windows because Linux is too much of a pain to use, and won't ever do games as well as a Windows PC will. And it's worth the $200 I paid for it. Next question?

I was going to say something but Craig's already said it. In more detail than I would 😮

I use Windows because it usually comes with the computer! And I know how to use it. Yeah.

Wouldn't mind trying out a mac though. Expensive though D:

Craig wins. People will use whatever OS they use; adamantly try to convert people just gets them all defensive and makes them think you're a jerk.

I use both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 7.04 if anyone cares). I actually prefer Linux for day to day computing as well as programming type activities. If I could, I'd abandon Windows completely, but sadly I like to play PC games and 99% of the ones worth playing are Windows only. Sure, I could use something like WINE or Cedega or run a virtual machine, but solutions like that introduce an extra layer between the game and the machine will never be as efficient as simply running things on Windows. That's pretty much the only reason I keep Windows around, though. Linux is a great operating system and not all that hard to use if you get the right distro (the main goal of Ubuntu, for example, is to make things as easy as possible for users of other OSes) and I'd encourage anyone to give it a try, but I'm not gonna act all high and mighty about it.

Anyway, what the hell is this, MFC? This is the SPA, guys. Where's the spam? >:[

I use Windows XP...because, well, it's easy to use.

After my introduction to an iMac in the college physics lab (and it's one of the newer models too), I'm never getting one.

I'm sorry, but I can't fathom browsing the Internet with no right-click.

XP FTW, though I may be getting a Vista Ultimate computer for christmas. I'm sick of bargain-bin computers and I REALLY don't want to try Vista on anything less than the best computer that's practical for me (I don't need a several-thousand dollar gaming rig, but I'm not settling for less than $1k - my current PC cost $300 and came with an LCD monitor.) so I say maybe because it'll be a good computer or no computer.

As Nuchtos said, some distros of Linux are just as easy, if not easier, as Windows. My first attempts to convert(Back in the days of Fedora Core 2 and Mandrake 9) were disastrous. I later tried Kubuntu 5.10, and it had fixed most of major problems with older distros. My transition was made easier as I had already switched to FireFox, OpenOffice, and VLC two of which are default applications in most Linux distros and the fact that I am not a PC Gamer. By the release of Kubuntu 6.06, I had left Windows behind permanently.

The hardest part of using (K)ubuntu is installing, and if you can install Windows XP you can install (K)ubuntu.

If you choose to stay with Microsoft, fine, but I am quite happy being free of their clutches and having all the software I'll ever need a quick, free, and legal download away.

While the Linux Kernel is originally Finnish in origin, GNU, the product that is combined with the Kernel to form the base of many Distros, is originally American. Linux's Cousins, Unix and BSD are also American.

Though enough about origins. Linux is the closest thing there is to a "United Nations of OSes", and is probably the most Humanitarian OS available.

P.S. I am an American, but I hold far greater loyalty to Humanity and the United Nations than I do to the US. When I feel like my rights are being violated, I refer to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights instead of the Bill of Rights.

Right click? Meh, once you figure out that to save images is as simple as click and drag, the Mac system isn't too hard to figure out. Linux...too lazy to learn programming. I prefer Windows only because everything is so much cheaper for it...
