Pluto has been voted off the island.

The distant, older and slightly cold Sailor Senshi is no longer a true Magical Girl, according to a new definition of the term voted on by manga-ka today.

"Whoa! Pluto's history," said otaku Hiroshi Uematsu, as he watched a Webcast of the vote. "There are finally, officially, nine Sailor Senshi in the Sailor Moon series."

In a move that's already generating controversy and will force fanfics to be rewritten, Pluto will now be dubbed a "Sailor cosplayer".

A clear majority of shoujo manga-ka voted for the new definition at a meeting of the International Manga Union (IMU) in Tokyo, Japan. The IMU decides the official names of all industry tropes.

The tough decision comes after a multiyear search for a highly-specific definition of the term Mahou Shoujo or "magical girl." The term never had an official meaning before.

What Is a Magical Girl Today?

According to the new definition, a full-fledged Magical Girl is a young lady of approximately 5-18 years in age with superhuman abilities, forced to fight evil and to protect the Earth. They often possess a secret identity, although the name can just refer to young girls who follow a plotline involving magic and a transformation.

Pluto has been demoted because she's, for all intents and purposes, over 18 years of age. Therefore, she is no longer a "girl" but a "woman". In addition, her mannerisms convey her as very adult, while the other Senshi are still clearly mischievous youngsters at heart.

Typical Reactions

Jun Ishawa is an first year student and avid manga reader at Ota Sakuradai High School in Minato, Japan. She says she's never considered whether Pluto should be a proper Senshi until a few months ago.

But when the japanese Sailor Wikia removed Pluto from the ranks of the Sailor Senshi, it got her thinking.

"This old hag—a Sailor Senshi? Give me a break!" she said. And she isn't alone: many Sailor Moon fans in Japan feel that Pluto is underserving of the title, which they feel should be reserved for younger (and therefore cuter) girls.

Other parts of the world however, feel differently.

"Typical Japanese over-reaction," said one disgruntled self-described Sailor Moon megafan. "If ain't potential jailbait, they simply aren't interested."

Is this the real life?

Is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide

no escape from reality.

... is what I read.

What it is... is plagiarized. Mostly. And it simply HAD to be done.

A very popular French comic book character.

I once did a presentation on the series for my college French class.  My teacher really like it.

... you know what you saying? 😛

But yeah, now I'm curious as to what particular context WITHIN Asterix she was quoting. The remark at first just seemed like a surprisingly accurate idea of what guys would find attractive, especially from a girl who wasn't exactly that fond of certain means of finding out. (ie. Studies on attraction, etc...)

EDIT: Fixed wording... sort of. o.o

It appears that Matt is curious why Mada is okay with quoting Asterix about girls being fat in "all the right places" when apparently she's vehemently said something contrary to that attitude in another thread about appearances...?

That is my best translation.  It is hard when there isn't a manual nearby.

... no, I was just wondering where Mada got the idea as to what "all the right places" would be, (judging from the pic I was guessing she was referring to the legs or something) and whether or not the context of whatever Mada was quoting refers specifically to what "the right places" would be, or if it was just a more generic reference.

... even now that earlier comment looks like a mess of wording, really. o.o

In this thread, Matt proves that he is a virgin.

I would answer your question but I'm pretty sure doing so candidly would still violate the rules of this forum. 😛

inb4 Matt further proves his virgin status by replying to this post with another very confused post

In this thread, Matt proves that he is a virgin.

Did I ever claim otherwise? What relevance, if any, would your little remark have to anything I said?

And Mada, I was NOT saying the men/boys wouldn't know, I was saying I felt a little surprised that you would know. o.o

Blame Velotix, he's the one who made the personal remark. Prior to that I was just inquisitively probing into Mada's earlier comment and treating it in a more side-comment sort of way. o.o

For someone who acts so sure of your supposed point, VL, you sure seem hesitant to specify what exactly it is, let alone how being right about one particular person being a virgin "proves" it. Well, unless the point was solely that of said 1 person being a virgin, that is, but that doesn't seem so likely...

Gasp!  So, in other words...this was all a plot to get rid of the Sailor Scouts!

...wait a second, I know most of those other words, but...terpitude?  Here, allow me to investigate that term posthaste with my magic browsing screen.

Well now, that page has a mighty fine list of evil things to do!  I am glad that I have found this information which may inadvertently give Sailor Evil far too many ideas for her own good.
