I need this explained to me, only Ash, Misty, Brock and Delia mean anything to me, and I don't know why Misty is curled up crying, why girl with kitty hat is with Delia at a birthday or...
Hell, I just plain don't get it.
I shall explain! 
This is obviously a more realistic representation of their ages as the series goes on. All trainers start their journey at 10. Lets start!
1998-
A year after the start of the series. All the main characters stay at a year younger throughout the series (in Japan, since it was released in 1997).
Ages:
Delia (Ash's mom)- 30
Ash-11
Misty-11
Brock-16
1999-
Casey-10
Brock- 17, he's grown a little goatee by now.
Ash- 12, a bit taller
Misty-12, aw, she's becoming a little lady 
2000-
Brock- 18, Got a mustache and is a pretty hairy fellow.
2001-
Dawn-5, she hasn't even appeared in the anime at this time, so she's little.
2002-
May- 10, she just starts her journey. (She's a bit large for that age, ain't she?)
Max- 7, not even old enough to be a trainer.
Ash- 15, he's tall, and seems to shave
Brock- 20, kinda looks like a pedo with those kids, scraggly mustache/goatee combo and all
2005-
Max- 10, old enough to start his journey by then.
May- 13, larger
2006-
Paul- 19, he's appears at Ash's age, so it makes sense.
Pikachu- Look at those wrinkles, he's getting pretty old.
Misty- 19, pretty hot, but I dunno why she's so short.
Gary- 19, Ash's age throughout the series, but always a bit taller
Dawn- 10, start of Diamond/Pearl, her journey starts.
2007-
Casey- 18, so she's legal, hence;
Brock- 25, is trying to get summa that

Delia- 40, her hair is a bit frazzled
May-16, the epitome of jail bait
2010-
May-18, She got married... to her rival :O

It would certainly make more sense if it was Professor Ivy, since Brock seems to be quite traumatised by whatever happened to him during the time he spent with her..... which he has yet to reveal (but probably never will). Also, some additional comments I'd like to make:

Yes, indeed it is. And I agree with the point you made about Gary earlier in this thread. Gary is highly badass, even more badass than Paul in my opinion.
I dunno, Paul does look pretty badass in that picture. Gary just kinda looks like a model.
