I wouldn't want to tar/marmite with the same brush the entire ED site as there's still a number of articles that are quite hilarious, however some of the more recent articles do not seem to have had as much effort put into them as did the classic articles. Also ED seems to be a bit too over run with schadenfreude.

Agreed. Some of the articles are great, but it's gotten to the point where there are so many shock images that I rarely bother anymore with it.
