(5:30:05 PM) Ivius Lighthead: I feel like sometimes it'd be better to post something in SPA

(5:30:19 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Basically it feels like 1 forum divided into 2 forums

(5:30:27 PM) GameMusic: i know

(5:31:39 PM) GameMusic: btw what of the one word or wplw etc

(5:31:51 PM) GameMusic: that is what can go to spa

(5:32:09 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Yeah

(5:32:20 PM) GameMusic: or pic spam

(5:32:32 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Basically I just want a shift in weight more to MFC

(5:32:47 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Rather than.. I shall now post a topic

(5:32:49 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Hmm

(5:32:51 PM) Ivius Lighthead: MFC or SPA

(5:32:56 PM) Ivius Lighthead: *flip a coin*

(5:33:28 PM) GameMusic: well we can do it by moving topics to MFC or be more subtle and just put a sticky up saying to go to mfc if in question

(5:33:44 PM) GameMusic: like the bad spam announcement

(5:34:18 PM) GameMusic: i think it can be an announcement

(5:34:25 PM) Ivius Lighthead: ok

(5:35:06 PM) GameMusic: and let's move the casino topics to spa gradually

(5:36:12 PM) GameMusic: that said

(5:36:22 PM) GameMusic: the spa is becoming active again

(5:36:24 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Yay agreement!

(5:36:31 PM) GameMusic: recovering from the rishi era

(5:36:54 PM) GameMusic: and i'm not eager to divert it just yet

(5:36:56 PM) GameMusic: so...

(5:36:58 PM) GameMusic: yeah

(5:37:01 PM) GameMusic: announcement

(5:37:07 PM) GameMusic: and movng casinos

(5:37:19 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Do people read the board announcements? 😮

(5:37:36 PM) GameMusic: we can edit it to the bad spam announcement

(5:37:57 PM) GameMusic: but not yet

(5:38:56 PM) GameMusic: how about we post it at the spa to get people understanding of the idea

(5:39:00 PM) GameMusic: then do it

(5:39:35 PM) Ivius Lighthead: Ok

(5:39:59 PM) GameMusic: and to provide example of a spa appropriate post a chat log 😛

So yeah brainstorm the SPA topics we should put here and what should be MFC.

MFC - Anything goes with a serious theme (IE. No joke topics allowed )

SPA - Anything goes with no serious theme (IE. joke topics allowed)

That's how I've always seen it.

This wasn't always the case. You've just been conditioned otherwise.

I always got the impression that joke topics should never go in MFC. It seemed to be a hub for general discussion on the basis that it had some sort of serious basis.

The SPA, being the spam forum, makes sense that it is the place to post non-serious joke topics. I mean, if you're posting it on the SPA in the first place, it's assumed to be a joke topic to begin with and not something serious.

o.o

Ah, the good ol' days of MFC... where serious discussion and random comedy collided on a daily basis.

I don't even remember what SPA was like back then (when it was Sandopolis)... seemed a like testing area until peeps started using it to post random gibberish. I only noticed it after the change to SPA and some of the insanity started leaking out of there and unto the other forums.

Anyhoo, the way it should be:

MFC- everything, serious or otherwise, has to have a purpose. A plan. Some type of cohesion.

SPA- when you just don't feel like making any sense, test posts, vent posts

Case in point: this thread should be in MFC, as it has a purpose.

Didn't the SPA used to be little more than a glorified game forum?

I seem to recall the majority of the threads there being games like Word Association and the like.

what about my marble garden?
i guess not a lot of members want to talk about politics, religion and philosphy but if there's a topic like that that someone wanted to share one day can we add it to the Mobius forum? like everyone i agree on it being serious.

oh on another topic dont you guys feel like we have few threads.. i mean i'd love if we had a whole anime thread and a whole music thread and the likes. instead of mixing all those into one thread and losing track of the topic and letting it die when newer stuff comes up. more orginazed threads might increase posts.

You know, you could just delete the SPA and then we could just not have the issue of whether or not to post here.  And delete Marble Garden too.  Awesomeface.

But srsly, PSX seems to have it right.  The SPA just has more leeway and people started getting lazy and posting here instead of in MFC for funny business.  Obviously the SPA has been abused in the past at times (Rishi of course, though I think there have been other dark times), but it's also been used for some of the best and most active topics (Cookirini's spam thread for example waaay back, or the aforementioned Sailorness summonings or Becca's Pillow Fortress).

And blowing up toilets, and laundry fights!

That was when the SPA was good.

I seem to recall Vortex always putting his scromics in MFC. I miss him.

Actually, believe it or not, the SPA did almost get deleted. I was one of the ones calling for it.

Sure, the SPA was and still probably is the most active board here, but a lot of times it's not really necessary. Most of what gets put here can go in the MFC.

over flowing the mobuis forum with all the threads from here will just be confusing when posting. and i dont feel comfortable replying to 20 posts in the mobius at one time but with some here and some at the mobius i can post more without feeling like a spammer XD

anyway uni you should be asking for more threads not less. i want more topics to reply too!

Silly Mada - I was (mostly) teasing when I said that.

However, more topics for the sake of more topics is silly.  What matters is quality, not quantity; after all, if you have a dozen cruddy threads, you end up with a dozen threads that end up getting booted off the front page because no one replies to them.  Good threads get good responses.  This is why Marble Garden gets such little activity. *rimshot*

Another thing to note about the SPA, it tends to be a brightly colored place and given a fair bit more attention with themes than MFC often is.  It used to be that MFC had different themes every now and then, which lent it a lighter atmosphere.  There were occasional problems with things not loading properly, but for the most part it worked.  Maybe that needs to be reexamined, since that could be part of the reason the SPA is more lively - it looks more lively.

I dunno, a funny picture topic that only gets 4 replies? It feels really out of place in MFC and almost off-topic.

Memories in this thread. n_n

Combine MFC and the SPA, ban dopey board games, increase the threads per page, everyone profits?

What's wrong with that? Kaze, Rayzor, myself, and many others used to do that all the time. Sometimes I wondered if we were having a competition to see who could have their name on the "Last poster:" the most.

anyway uni you should be asking for more threads not less. i want more topics to reply too!

No. No, no, no.

Making threads for the sake of having more threads was one of the reasons the SPA nearly went belly up last time. Quality over quantity. I'd be far happier with two or three threads that are active but still fun than ten sub-par threads that push good ones off the front page and eventually get abandoned or locked. The SPA used to be filled with the latter.

I dunno, a funny picture topic that only gets 4 replies? It feels really out of place in MFC and almost off-topic.

Hence why I said most. I will admit that there are some things that would be more at home in the SPA than MFC, but threads such as the 'last letter game' we have going on here would be just as home in the MFC as here.

The SPA, in and of itself, is not bad when people understand the difference between good spam and bad spam and when moderated properly. It used to not be, and people got away with being idiots. It got to the point where I wouldn't even set foot in the SPA. I'm sure there are others who remember what a cesspool the SPA used to be.

ummmmmmmmmm i thought there was a no spamming rule. i kept worrying each time i post more than 5 posts per day.  also isnt there a no stalking rule 0__0 so i cant reply to the same person more than 2 times a day.  and i mostly see the same people post so i try to avoide replying to them more than once.

No, there's never been a no spamming rule that I'm aware of. Like I said, there were some times in the past that me and several others would make almost ten or fifteen posts in the span of a few minutes in the same thread.

How else do you think I managed to rack up over 5000 plus posts across three different alts?

I miss things like Vortex's Box, the other scromics and the Sailorness epidemic being MFC material, where it could show some variety - rather than just be tagged with the stigmatised label of "spam", instead of "fun".

Spamming rules only apply to pointless posts, not quantity. It only counts as spam if you post say 1 letter in every topic for example. The rules topic explains it. MoFo spam rules are very open.

Something like that sounds more cohesive and planned out though, unlike some picture topic that's basically "I'll put this here and see if anyone thinks it's funny".

That depends on the picture. I've seen it work (I've actually gotten away with it, too!).
