Windows should be added to the insult list with Unix, Linux, BSD, Solaris, etc. being added to the awesome list.

While it is true that most OSes built on the Linux Kernel can be downloaded for free, many are available on pressed CD/DVD-Roms with printed documentation for a monetary fee, and there are some that are only available this way. As for my reasoning for adding Windows to the Insult list, I would like to list a few, in my opinion, valid critisms.

1. A default install of Win9x, 2000, or XP(I do not know about Vista) leaves itself wide open to malware and hacker attacks, and securing them is a pain in the rear and neck(literally and figuratively).

2. Default installs of Win 2000 and XP have 16 color 640*480 as their maximum graphic settings, no sound drivers what-so-ever, and Win 2000 lacks internet support out of the box.

3. No version of Windows comes bundled with enough good software to make a default install a usable system.

4. Microsoft makes each new version of Windows excessively bloated to the point that most have to get new computers to upgrade the OS.

5. Despite these problems, Microsoft still has the gall to charge several hundred dollars for their product.

The only good thing Windows arguably does better than a top tier Linux Distribution is gaming, and that is dependant on having a high-end computer for anything recent and is mainly due to developers being too lazy to create Linux launchers for their games.

Jeff, if you're gonna bash Windows at least do it with some coherence and facts to hand. Your second point is wrong, and your other points are mostly biased opinion.
That said, you did state at the beginning of your post it was your own opinion, so I guess all you're doing is showing us how narrow-minded you are

If my second point is wrong, then explain why I have always had to manually install audio and video drivers to get any sound and to get a decent looking desktop? Maybe OEM versions are better about hardware support, but every retail version I have ever installed has left me with ugly graphics and no sound. If my other points are biased, at least I can say the bias is based on first hand experience with setting up and maintaining both Windows and Linux systems.

If I was narrow-minded, I would have never given Linux a chance, nor would I have taken a risk with evaluating for myself the claims that Windows 2000 is more stable than XP.
