Not trying to create a flamewar, just interested in seeing what people's opinions are. I would have posted this in GA but that doesn't allow polls.
So? What's your opinion? Which system do you prefer out of those listed and why? Keep the topic to a friendly discussion please, don't berate others opinions or feel offended if someone says something that disagrees with you.
Voted DS. If yuku supported multivote I would have voted Wii and PC too.
I too voted DS... Wii and then 360 (even though I don't have one 😥 )
Wii is my main squeeze, but I see 360 on the side.
360. It's not the most unique, it's not the most powerful, and it's certainly not the most reliable, but it has the most games I want and, for what I paid it, was one of the best gaming bargains I think I've had.
Games are always most important when it comes to console purchasing.
Both my DS and my PSP aren't used enough, so eh. I don't have a Wii or a 360. And I didn't see PC until I clicked PS3 already. So.
Well, I saw PC, but I didn't think of it until I clicked - I've never had a gaming computer until two and a third months ago, so I'm still used to assuming I can't play any good game. 😛
lol PS3.
lol PS3.
When I posted this reply, seventeen (including myself) have voted. I'd like to know who's the lonely soul that voted for PS3?
I'd like to know.

I'd like to know.
SX said it was him.
Let's make fun of him for it.
3 votes for 360 is too many
DS needs more votes until it looks like pacman
i picked ds
the fact that i recently finished apollo justice might have influenced my vote
wii is my second choice, but i don't even play video games that much
DS is the only choice I play religiously.
Voted PC, although I rarely use it for gaming. None of these are the console I'd go for, simply because they are all far too expensive for me, and non really hold any interest at the moment, I'm willing to wait. I'll live with my more classic consoles, the Mega Drive, the PSX, the N64, these are where I live, and I'm happy there. Not because I'm a retrofag, but because I just don't care enough. There is a PS3 in my house, and other than Stuntman, we use it to play FF7.
The PC can play these things, thus it gets my vote. Ask me again in a few years when such fancy crap is spending money.

that is so not retro.
Most recently I have been playing The Incredible Machine on Dosbox.
Now that's more like it.
Voted DS. XD
I voted for DS.
I voted 360 and I was the first one to do so
My DS is just collecting dust atm
[EDIT] Since other people are saying second favourites and the like;
360>PS3>PC>DS>PSP>Wii, in my opinion. Yes the PS3 really is second there. It'll be first if it weren't for the fact that the only person I know who has one is SX and it doesn't have as many games I like as the 360. Wii is last because I really can't be arsed to wave my arms about to play a game. I don't really know much about the PSP =/
:O
I'm going Wii all the way. The DS is good too, and I own both of them, but the other systems just don't do it for me. 360's pretty close though. Also, I despise SONY so much that I want them to be paunched right now. >_<
there's no gamecube option, so i'm stuck. >>;
Woulda voted DS but it has it won already, so I gave mine to the 360 as it seems to take second place for the gaming I do. Solely the result of Rock Band I assure you.

I voted Wii but I don't have one and I do have a DS and now I want to vote for DS. =(
Your mom *drums*
Out of the ones listed, I only have a PC & a DS. Since I play games on my DS more, that's the one I selected.
I only own a PC, so that's my choice.
Also, I despise SONY so much that I want them to be paunched right now. >_<
Yeah, I think we all want to paunch Sony.
I have a PS3 and I don't like Sony as a company. 😛
I chose 360 because it's simply the system I'm playing most at the moment, between Halo 3, Dead Rising and various other things. PS3's right behind it, though, it really is getting to be a fun system. So for me, it's: 360>PS3>Wii>PSP/DS>PC. PC's last because my PC isn't really a gaming one, I don't own a PSP or a DS, and I don't want a Wii because it has, like, two games I want.

Doesn't look like a pacman anymore.
Had to vote 360. Currently borrowing a friends DS, but I don't find it to be all that great.

Except for a few exceptions, the DS is mostly a bunch of casual gamer crap, which I'm so not into. Wii's sort of the same way, but there's a bit more selection to satisfy my hardcore gamer needs (also, BRAWL!).
That's pretty much the main reason I don't want to get a Wii yet and that I don't often play my DS any more. There's too many casual games and shovelware and not enough games I think I would want to play. Nowadays the only new games I get for my DS are the Phoenix Wright ones (partly because my touch screen is buggered too, but even if it weren't I still have better games to buy elsewhere), and as for the Wii, Brawl is the only game I'm really interested in. I mean if I had one I might have tried Mario Galaxy and with a bit of persuasion I may have forced myself to get back into the Prime series after 2 was a tiresome disappointment, but for the most part there#s nothing I really want to play. Well, besides the obvious Brawl.
I guess the situation is similar on the PS3 - while there are more games that I would like to play, a lot of them are multiplatform still anyway. MGS4 is the only game I particularly want that's exclusive, and while I would probably get Little Big Planet and Time Crisis 4 if I had a PS3, I don't want them desperately and I can't justify the price tag for it.
i predict tl;dr
Am I the only person who doesn't want Brawl?
Noope, you're not alone :3
I anticipate playing it in the farther future because I have to rather than really wanting to. It took me awhile to warm up to Melee, I'm pretty sure this'll be the same.
As for me, I voted DS. If I spent more time at home, it'd probably be Wii, but the portability of the DS and the games that are on it just seal it for me. Never been much of a PC gamer, and the 360 doesn't have games I care about. Same for PS3, but add about $200 to it (or not, I exaggerate, I don't know any of the prices anymore).
Say, Crim. If you hooked me up with The Incredible Machine (and/or the sequel, the Even More Incredible Machine), I'll be your friend forever. Seriously. <3

I've been hearing it for ten years now and still don't understand the concept of "casual gamers" or "casual games", or have any sort of consistent definition.
You're either a gamer or you're not as far as I'm concerned. I can never understand the concept of needing to be more hardcore than the next guy.
Casual games are more pick-up-and-play and tend to be simpler than other games, which can have more unique features and a strong, intricate story and whatnot.
And no, I don't really want Brawl either. I liked hte original SSB but Melee was just kinda okay. Fun, but I have more fun games than that. And the massive amount of hype I find a turnoff on any game.
Casual games are more pick-up-and-play and tend to be simpler than other games,
Like the earlier Sonic or Mario games, then? You know - the really, really popular ones that the GBA and the DS still imitate occasionally. Or Bomberman, or Tetris, or Lemmings or...
Again, I'm sorry (and this isn't directed at you personally), but I really don't agree with this artificial distinction that you're not a REAL gamer unless you play the likes of Bioshock or anything with six layers of metaplot or just good enough eye candy. I've always found it a tad insulting and more than a bit worrying that a large chunk of the hobby now looks down on simple playability - and anyone who goes in for it - like that.
It's gaming. It's an utterly meaningless hobby and it's supposed to be fun. That utterly arbitrary "casual gamer" distinction (in albeit my personal experience) seems to've been created by people who like M-rated games in order to make them look trendier) really does get my back up in terms of creating an artificial division where there wasn't one because there didn't need to be.
And I still haven't had two gamers give me the same definition.
*shrug* Back to the topic, anyone?
I never thought I'd end up voting for the 360, but honestly it's the system I end up playing the most often between consistent good releases and online matchmaking that doesn't give me a headache. I have a DS, a Wii, a PSP, and I do play PC games, but none of those things stay consistently plugged in because a new game for those platforms that I'm interested in comes out maybe once a month (and as is the case with the Wii, many times less). The X-box is the only one that stays plugged in.
EDIT: Also, what's the deal with Yuku's pie charts? They ook like something I made for a class presentation in sixth grade using Powerpoint for Windows 3.1
I shall be quite happy to email TIM to ya Sagely, but yeh'll have to give me your email addy again. AOL being lovely seems to have completely fobbed it off.
And Sam, Sam, Sam. Lemmings isn't a casual game, it's a life choice ;P
I wouldn't know how to clearly define a line between casual game and a hardcore game, but you have to admit there's a certain distinction between, for example, Brain Training and Final Fantasy in the audiences. In fact the target audience may well be the very definition of casual gaming. If the target audience is people who are not used to gaming or what have you it's casual, while if it's designed to the more core audience it's more hardcore.
As for Brawl, I ought to clarify that it isn't a must have, but it is the highest in the list for the Wii for me. I liked Melee and I shouldn't think there could be anything worse in the sequel, but the level of hype for the damn thing is ridiculous. Oh, and Nintendo insist on consistently proving themselves incompetent at online gaming. If they had a system more like Live i'd be far more inclined to get a Wii, to be honest.
shadowednavi (at) hotmail (dot) com. Have I mentioned you rock my world? 😀 😀 😀
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
I rock everyone's world, and you know it baby ;3
Quick note, I don't really want Brawl either.
I see a difference between casual games and casual gamers, Sam. I consider "hardcore" gamers the type that own a lot of consoles and a high-end gaming PC and spend all their time waiting for high-hype games to come out You know, the type that wait in line for days to buy Halo. I consider casual gamers to be gamers that play games to relax/kill time/cure boredom/relieve stress/whatever, don't constantly have a console on, and usually have a life other than gaming. I don't consider "hardcore" gamers "real" gamers and I tend to consider myself a casual gamer.
But being a casual gamer, if you go off my definition, doesn't mean you only play Brain Training and Wii Sports. I play M-rated games, shooters, series, etc., with complex plots and whatnot, but I do it as a side thing, not as a main focus of my life. I consider a casual game something like Brain Training and Wii Sports and whatnot - they're quick, pick-up-and-play games with a loose, if any, story.
So, the only relation between a causal game and a casual gamer is that they're casual about gaming. 😛
its all abut friggin Wii
a butt
where do you plug it in
