Right, so as I not-so-subtly announced back in "what're you playing", I now own a used PS2. Which is awesome, since I missed out on a crapload of gaming last generation for the lack of one. Presently, I own:
- Katamari Damacy
- Kingdom Hearts
- Ratchet & Clank
- Shadow of the Colossus [/list:u:243c227e8d]
...and was wondering where to move on to. Metal Gear Solid was an obvious choice (despite my absolute hatred of stealth, everyone says I'd love it, so) but, well, I want both the PS1 game and the second disc of MGS3:Subsistence for rather cheap (for the MSX games if nothing else), but the $30 gives me the former but not the latter, while buying them all separately would give me both, but be much more expensive/tedious to accomplish (given that nobody save eBay sells PS1 games anymore). Blaaaaaah, Konami, why did you do something so stupid
Other than that, eying Klonoa 2, but I'm open to suggestions.
If you're into racing, try Grand Turismo 4. However, if you're not into winning the same races over and over to get that really fast car you need so you don't get blown away by the competition, you may not like it. >_>
I enjoy it though 😛
I also reccomend The Grand Theft Auto Series (III/Vice City/San Andreas) if you're into that genre of game. Love it or hate it kind of series if you ask me, with my opinion on the love it side.
That's about all I can account for however, because I only own about 5-6 PS2 games myself. Hope others can dish out their advice as well.
If you're looking for Metal Gear, I recommend this collection - contains MGS1, MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsistence. In fact I really ought to pick it up myself.
As for other games I'm not too great for recommendations. My main lot of PS2 games are all GTAs, and I've also still got Half Life and Escape from Monkey Island from before I had a half-decent PC. Also got Soul Calibur 3 and Time Crisis 3 but whether either of those would interest you I don;t know. That said, the Jak series was always fun, but I always felt they were a bit short.
Yeah, that was the $30 collection I was referring to - the one missing the MSX games. It's still being considered despite this, simply because it's otherwise a great deal, but I'll still have that nagging "I'm missing something" feeling, y'know?
Oh, and I bought Klonoa.
I can't remember if they're in public domain, but the MSX games are emulatable. I got them running on my old computer but I forgot where I found them. I'd be able to scrounge them up again if I tried, though. That said from what I experienced of them you wouldn't be missing much if you didn't get them.
A used PS2, eh? Good move. As for games. Hmmm...If you want more of an arcade racer...i'd suggest the Midnight Club series.[Golden in my eyes]. If you're into fantasy mech combat...Armored Core, ftw. Hmmm...the Tekken series is a winner in my eyes as well. Hope that helps somewhat. Habt Spass!
Well If you looking for some GREAT PS2 games and like Mega Man, my I suggest Mega Man Legends and it's sexy sequel Mega Man Legends 2
It is a great game once you get passed the (at times) wonky target lock, but with an collective cast of characters, many weapons and gadgets to use and combine and a pretty good story (MML2 is a little darker), it really is a once game that you will cherish for ever and ever.
And if that doesn't sway you, there's Tron Bonne!
Come on! You can't say no to her?
Already own both. Beat 1, 2 froze at a specific point, last I checked. Not like I'd be able to find either at this point save looking on eBay...
Come on! You can't say no to her?
Psh! I could. She's not even a real woman is she? Now Chun Li...that's a real woman.

Why of course Chun Li is a real women.
... Tron is only 14! :0
Really? She seemed older in MM64. Like, Jesse from Team Rocket age. Who iirc is canon 19 but seems older still.
On the subject of Megaman, I totally recommend MMX: Command Mission, because that was a fun RPG to play.
Pick up the .Hack series if you want some psuedo-mmo RPG.
Devil Mary Cry 1 is a must.
If you love to run around blowing @#$! up in mechs, then something from the Armored Core series is right up your alley.
Oh, and if you liked Kingdom Heats, then it won't hurt to pick up KH2, either.
And apart from that, I realise that my own PS2 collection isn't that big at all, of course that's not including games which don't deserve to be mentioned.
Rent or try before you buy ;D
Ignore Spiner's suggestion of .Hack. It's crap. A better psuedo mmo-rpg is FF12 and even then it's a game I wouldn't neccessarily recommend.
But go buy Persona 3.
He might not necessarily like dungeon-crawls. However, if he did Persona would be a good choice. It's oddly addicting.
dot.hack is decent enough (G.U. being loads better than the previous series), but the fact is to get the full experience you have to buy several volumes. Naturally, that doesn't sit well with people.
I'd like to recommend a few games too but I see all the basics have been covered. The only things left are guilty pleasures others might dismiss as crap (see: .hack). Well, most of 'em are rpgs, anyways. Btw, good man picking up Klonoa. If you haven't already get the first one, too. Quality platformers come around once in a blue moon these days.

Also get Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. Great game.
But beware of the Handhelds (The ones that where released in U.S/Canada) because they are challenging and at times HARD AS HELL!
Especially 'Dream Champ Tournament' for the GBA!
Well, right now we're only really concerned with what's available on the PS2 that wasn't a multi-platform title. Though I wasn't too fond of the GBA titles, either.
Also get Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil.
Uh... he did.
Epic bump
So, Metal Gear Solid 2 is fun! So, here's a question for y'all. If I were to play the original game, should I go for...
...or...
...? If it means anything, I do tend to use the sniping mode on the tranquilizer in MGS2, which I hear isn't available in PS1 MGS, but is in Twin Snakes. However, I also hear that the original has better acting, so...
I only got halfway through a borrowed PS1 version where it crashed thanks to scratched discs, but I can say that the original is far more difficult than the GC remake. Additionally you can perform pretty much every action in Twin Snakes as you could in Sons of Liberty, while in the original you really can't do much at all.
Personally I would say Twin Snakes, but I'm not the most impartial person available.
Get the first Jak & Daxter. It's cutesy and fun Nn
Oh, yeah, I should've mentioned - bought that and Kingdom Hearts 2 alongside MGS2. Buy two, get one free deal on used games, see.
All good choices =D
Uh... well, that's pretty much me out of Ideas (and games) except maybe Transformers. The Armada based on is pretty good, it's a 3rd person shooty/platformy/drivey thing which has sweet graphics and controls but is hard as nails.
I wasn't fond of the Jak & Daxter series, all the games felt really really short and easy.
God Hand. It's super awesome, super hard and super weird.
Hell yeah.
That's what I was going to look for! I want that game =(

Oh man. There's no way anyone can go back to classic MGS1 gameplay after having their first full taste of stealth from MGS2's, which is in Twin Snakes. It really is the type of game you have to have experienced when it was new and fresh. Most of the game is played in top-down perspective which limits your view. You have a 1st person view mode but its extremely limited compared to Sons of Liberty (and subsequent chapters). All this spikes the difficulty quite a bit, especially if you're used to how MGS2 does things.
On the other hand: soundtrack is infinitely better, in my opinion. The Twin Snakes was a little too airy and atmospheric (much like MGS2, a credit to Williamson). The VAs... well, their performance was perfectly fine back in the day, and garnered rave reviews due to the way it pulls you in. However, lately there's been concerns that needed to be addressed, such as the wide varieties of accents used... so much that Konami felt it best to redo some lines for Twin Snakes to remove the accents. I thought they were perfectly fine, and gave certain individuals more character. The new dub used in TTS feels drab or phoned in, when compared to Classic MGS. *shrug*
Oh... one thing that classic MGS does better were the cutscenes, which were often short and to the point (for an MGS game, that's rather unique). Well, the codec scenes are still drawn out a bit... but at least they're animated correctly. TTS sometimes loads the frames for certain scenes before the lines are spoken... it's... irritating. It breaks the flow of the narrative. But it's a minor quibble, the real difference lies in the in-engine scenes. The director in charge of the remake was instructed by Kojima to alter several scenes so that they weren't carbon copies of the original's, and he WENT TO TOWN. If you ever wanted to see Snake go Matrix as he whupped ass, TTS is the game for you. It borders on the ridiculous, sometimes. I don't know... it's an acquired taste, I guess. Sure, Snake's a one-man army sometimes, but... wow. I'll refrain from saying any more on that subject.
What else...? Classic MGS had a companion disc released called VR Missions, though you had to buy it seperately. TTS still has only the original training missions on the disc. So if you liked that sort of thing... well, classic had more of 'em.
I'll stop here. I'm having difficulty recalling anything else that the two games did differently, as it's been quite some time since I've played either.
