Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. And Gyakuten Saiban 2, if I can include.

Whilst, on a technical level, they're not the best games in the world, both of the games are simply engrossing and the games where I've had the most genuine fun since I can remember. Brilliant characters, well executed storylines and a superb soundtrack to boot, these games definitely rank as my favourite or 2006.

Didn't the first Phoenix Wright come out in like '04?

Wonderbra is right, Ace Attorney is 2005.

Kitty'll side with what he knows and loves. Kingdom Hearts 2.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube. Hands down, no question for me. Pretty much the best game I've ever played.

Shadow the Hedgehog!

Okay, seriously, uh, maybe BF2MC? Has it's moments where the whole thing just seems to come together and make a pretty solid title, even if it is just using the BF2 name to sell - it's nothing like BF2.

Or Black. Also, has it's moments where it's dull monotony, but other moments where the game comes together and is simply thrilling and fun.

Of course, they're all just runners-up, as an Ace Combat was released this year. Ace Combat Zero. Could stand to have more levels, but the levels it does have are fun to paly, over and over. I loved the level when the nuke goes off. Dropping 5,000ft before I realize I'm pointing down made me literally shout out loud.

Yoshi's Island DS, because it's the most fun I've had with a platformer in ever.

What are you guys on about? Gears of War owns all of those games so hard it's not even funny.

It's pretty tight this year. Twilight Princess, Oblivion and Gears of War, but of those, you can only pick one?

Gears of War is not the best shooter I have ever played.

I go with "genre-toppingly awesome" over "Latest fad shooter" anyday.

I'm a bit curious about checking that one out sometime, but I don't ever see myself liking a FPS of any kind better than Zelda:TP. (which isn't to say I don't still like some shooters quite a bit)

Kinda surprised to hear you complimenting Gears of War actually, I thought you generally hated console shooters because of having to use a gamepad.

Well, a PC port does seem to be rather likely...

My best game of 2006 would probably be....Oblivion. Definately, in fact. Every problem I had with Morrowind is gone, every single one, and there were quite a lot.

Pathologic. No contest.
You can keep your derivative genre titles. This thing is art.

you guys might think i'm crazy but i'm going to say sonic 2k6. seriously, i love that game; the only thing bad that i see in it is the loading.though i havent finished the game due to my 360 braking, but ive cleared it up with microsoft. thinking back on 2006 i didn't have as much fun as i usually do though. i havent played gears of war but i almost pre ordered but decided to wait. i didn't do too much gaming on the psp either, I just bought a bunch of games for the older systems. so really me loving the new sonic game there wasnt much else to choose from for me

I was actually joking, Gears of War was a bit of a disappointment after all the hype and the $400 for a new console and whatnot. It was still fun though, and I did eventually get used to using the analog (although it would still be way better on the PC). But yeah, I was just riffing on how overblown all the hype on that game is.

My actual GotY is either Viva Pinata, Company of Heroes, or The New Super Mario Bros. Haven't decided which one I love the most yet.

Don't worry Abac Child, there is medicine that can help you ;P

Seriously though, Zelda is by far my GotY. It's just masterful...

Elite Beat Agents is a close second though. The game does everything right... It's zanny, yet atleast one 'episode' pulls at your heart strings... Awesome N_N

Ah. Whoosh, right over my head. Shows how much I'm paying attention today, heh. Leave it to me to completely miss a joke or sarcasm.

In my feeble defense, I've been hearing so many overly thrilled comments about that game (including GameSpot actually giving it Game of the Year) that I just kind of expect to hear things like that every time the name comes up.

I <3 the crap out of Gears Of War. If you can find a good group online, all the multiplayer woes go away. Rainbow Six: Vegas is rather fun as well, disappointing single-player ending aside.

In a year that saw God Hand, Okami, Guitar Hero 2 and Gears Of War come out, I have a hard time picking a favorite.

This is a tough one for me, as I enjoyed many a games which came out.

Gears of War being one of them, because of what Castor nicely pointed out. I honestly had a lot of fun with that one.

I'm trying to think back over the year, and remember a game I really enjoyed - Kingdom Hearts 2, Dirge of Cerberus, SmackDown vs RAW 2007.

It's been a decent year for games, but I can't say I really enjoyed one more than the other, so I'm undecided. =3

My choice was easier for me, as I started the year without any nextgen consoles. I have played Gears of War, Cromehounds, and COD2 on X360, they seem fun enouhg, which has me psyched about nextgen gaming in general, and PS3 specifically, as I don't intend to ever get an X360.

I have been toying with the idea of buying an original Xbox, though, for Halo, Halo 2, a few other Xbox exclusives which everyone seems to have instaconverted to Microsoft fanboyism because of.

I know it's subjective, but I just don't see how people can pick anything besides Gears of War.

Well, we could pick a derivative, shooter that breaks no new ground in any area except graphics, or we could, y'know, pick something interesting and imaginative.
From the point of view of innovation, redefining genres and the future of the medium, Pathologic was hands-down the most important game last year.

At least Zelda:TP (Wii version of course) offered us some innovation in terms of motion sensing

Gears of War would have to be Game of the Year for me. Not only is it single handily the best graphics on the 360, its multiplayer features blow games like Halo 2 out of the water. Gears of War hands down.

Here's an easy way how: I didn't play it.

In fact, since I'm not a hardcore gamer, there were a lot of games I didn't play that were probably excellent.

Out of the games I played in '06, my favorites were Twilight Princess and the first two Ace Attorney games. Also, I'd say Wii Sports is high on the list.

If we're talking about games released in '06, then both AA games are discounted (PWAA was released in '05, JFA technically in '07). In that case I let EBA take one of those spots, and the other one probably goes to Raving Rabbids.

I don't have and don't want an X360. So no Gears of War.

I didn't play a whole lot of new games this year; most of my time was spent on classic stuff. The only games I've played that I'm sure came out last year (at least, going by Wiki's list) are Guild Wars 2 & 3, Guitar Hero II, and Sam & Max. Out of those, anyway, GW:Nightfall for PC GotY and GHII for the console one - which it deserves anyway 8P

EDIT: Wow, forgot about HL2: Episode One Oo Sooo many months ago, I guess. Also a great game, loads of fun. I change my above award.

I gotta say, it's a tie between Kingdom Hearts II and Twilight Princess, because these were two titles that I have been impatiently waiting for over a few years and both delivered awesomeness.

Well, I haven't played that many brand new games for 2006.

I think it was just Shadow of the Colossus, Metroid Prime Hunters and MK Armageddon.

I'll put my vote for Shadow of the Colossus. There is probably no other game with as many moments of "Wow" than this one.

Admittedly haven't played Gears of War, Zelda TP or Dead Rising... So take that as you will.

I think that's 05. i recall getting it for christmas last year.

I didn't play enough key games to past judgement, as I'm typically a budget gamer, but Twilight Princess is living up to all the hype.
I thought Gears of War was hella fun, but in no way deserving of GOTY.

I'd like to play FFXII, also. I'll prolly pick it up in a year.

SotC came out last year in UK. So did Phoenix Wright according to Gamesmaster's top 50 games of the year.

We are about to get Okami. Always a year behind America...

And because of this release date, SOTC was almost my best game of last year.
Almost.
