For some reason, I thought there was a thread for Pokemon
talk in general, but wasn't able to find it, so figured I'd create a new topic
for this.  Main thing I wanted to post
about was the Enigma Stone wi-fi event for HG/SS, though (in case this ends up
being a good place for it) talk, news, trades, missions (for Pokemon Dungeon
games), etc. -- basically, anything that doesn't better fit in a more
specific/existing topic  -- for any
Pokemon game from any generation is welcome here as well.

Anyway, on to news about the Enigma Stone for HG/SS:

"The elusive Legendary Pokémon Latias or Latios will
roam around the Kanto region in your Pokémon HeartGold or
SoulSilver Version game after you've beaten the Elite Four
and claimed the National Pokédex.  Now
there's a way to catch both of the amazing Pokémon in your game!  Receive the Enigma Stone via a special
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection distribution, which will lead you to the chance to
catch Latios in your Pokémon HearGold Version or Latias in
your Pokémon SoulSilver Version!

"Similar to the other half of the Legendary pair you
can catch normally during gameplay, the Pokémon you'll get via the Enigma Stone
will be at Level 40.  In exchange for the
Enigma Stone, you'll also get the Soul Dew, a held item that powers up the
Special Attack and Special Defense of Latios and Latias!

"Receive the Enigma Stone via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection
from July 31st to August 27th.

"Get the Enigma Stone!
Receive the Enigma Stone via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from
July 31st to August 27th.

        Info from http://www.pokemongoldsil...m/us/#/news/enigma-stone
-- please see the site if you want more details about how to get the Enigma
Stone (since I don't feel like typing out all of that^^; ).  I already checked through all the different
region selections of the HG/SS site, and it looks like it's there on the same
dates for all of those as well.

Hope this helps for anyone who's interested^^  (I still need to get the national Pokedex myself, though I'm working on it and will hopefully get it before the deadline!)

        ------------------------------------

On a different topic (though still Pokemon-related), also
wanted to mention that I have PMD:
Explorers of Time, and while I can't post my friend code out, I am able
to do password rescues if anyone ever wants to post here for those.

This is one of the reasons I've got royally off the Pokemon games, and that's the sheer ridiculousness of how you have to catch all the Pokemon. Why does this have to be a limited time option and not up on wi-fi constantly?

O.o It has been this way since R/B/Y... actually back then it was even harder, as you could only get the rare Pokemon at select events that you physically had to go to. So please quit your whining.

That is precisely my issue with Pokemon Hiro, that you have to go to special events and all these extremes in order to catch all the Pokemon. And yes it existed in RBY and it was stupid then as well, although for only one Pokemon it could be argued not to be that bad but with all the subsequent releases and increasing ridiculousness of the methods in order to catch them (linking data to Pokemon Channel, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon etc etc) it's tested my patience somewhat. Oh, and quit whining? Forgive me for having an opinion on the topic. o.o

Although now its much easier. Yeah there still has to be an element of difficulty of obtaining them Pach, its the only way we'd still actually rake advantage of it. If they just left it up, then we'd just put it off for the most part. With the time limit, it makes the brain go "Gimme now before it vanishes" and keeps Pokemon drive high so when they release new game, people instabuy it.

Mew's going to be available for HGSS!^^  I'm really excited, since Mew is my favorite
Pokemon, so I'm definitely planning to get him/her/it!  *currently in a state of happy shock/surprise
XD;*  (The official Mew I have is currently stuck back in Crystal version, so I've been waiting a long time for something like this!)

See below for more details (or just skip
to the link after the block of text to read the same thing I typed here)!

----------------------------------------------------------

"The Pokémon Mew Can Be Yours!

"It's been 10 years since Pokémon
fans first visited the Johto region in Pokémon Gold Version
and Pokémon Silver Version
To commemorate the historic occasion, you can get the rare Psychic-type
Pokémon Mew!  You'll be able to get Mew
into your copy of Pokémon HeartGold or SoulSilver
Version
games via a Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection distribution event
from October 15th through October 30th.

"At first, it was believed that
there were only 150 Pokémon.  As #151 in
the National Pokédex, Mew was the original secret Pokémon.  Since then, Mew has very rarely been
available over the past 10 years.  This
is an opportunity that doesn't come around too often, so don't miss out!

"The Mew you'll receive is
interesting in a number of ways.  It's
only Level 5, and it comes with only one move, Pound, a basic Normal-type
attack.  In other words, Mew is a blank
slate -- you can raise it and train it as you see fit.  Also, it comes inside a Cherish Ball and has
a Premier Ribbon, both of which indicate that you got Mew via a special event!

"Receive Mew!

-  You'll be
able to receive Mew via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from October 15th through
October 30th.

-  You must
have a Nintendo DS™ system and your own copy of Pokémon
HeartGold
or SoulSilver Version.

-  You need
to have acquired the Pokédex

-  You need
to have fewer than three Wonder Cards in your possession"

(See http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/us/#/news/mew
for more details; above quote taken from there as well.)

Awesome XD. Since getting a job, I can actually afford to buy games now, so I got HGSS on time. I remember realizing that I'd already missed everything for diamond, as platinum had already come out. Still, I shall call this mew Timotei, as I will inevitably be unable to rename it. Also, I like to think of the pokemon event system as a form of DLC. It helps keep the game fresh (so we remember to buy the sequel :P), and also gives little perks to the consumers for buying it.

And unlike some DLC, it's free (minus your expenses in paying for either an Internet service or travel to go to where they have the promotional Pokemon being given out).

I think I was actually more annoyed with it when it first came out because it was so inaccessible by comparison to the way it is now.  But since I've given up on trying to catch them all and focused on playing the games as fun RPGs, it's mostly a bonus to get these extra Pokemon.  Sure, I'll still get as many as I can get, but that's because I can trade them away more easily to people who do want them.

I got all excited up until the last rule which states I need at least three of those Wonder Cards. I don't think I have any of them and I have no clue if I can attempt to achieve them in time. Consarn it.

The last rule actually says you need to have
fewer than three Wonder Cards, so it sounds like you should
be fine^^

That rule is just there for people who have already obtained
three Wonder
Cards
from past events -- the game can only store a maximum of three
of those, so you'd have to delete one before a new one can be received.

(Note:  deleting a
Wonder Card doesn't delete the gift you received as long as you have already
picked up the corresponding gift at a Pokemart (and saved the game afterwards,
of course) before performing said deletion.)

I take it Wonder Cards are saved to memory for the purposes of trading to other game cards via Mystery Gift? Otherwise what's the purpose of having them saved to your game card?

I'm not sure.  I tried sending a "used" Wonder Card to someone else once, but that doesn't seem to work.  And I certainly wasn't about to send my Mew to somebody else to attempt to test the idea that a Wonder Card, pre-used, would let you send it to someone else.

Haven't been to Serebii.net in a while:

Wonder Cards

The Wonder Card option beneath the obtaining options in the Mystery Gift menu will allow you to check and manage the Wonder Cards that you have stored in the game. You have the ability of storing three different Wonder Cards at any given time. When you view the Wonder Card, you will see a description of the item or Pokémon that you have been sent. From here you have up to three different options;

* Flip the Card

* Send to Friend (Only applicable on select Wonder Cards)

* Trash

If you select to flip the Card, you can view the Back of it which contains even more details regarding the use of the card and related links for it.

Sending the Cards

Some Cards allow you to send it to some friends. They only have a set amount of times that they can be sent, for example the Secret Key can only be sent five times. When you select this option, you will go to a menu and your DS will start sending Wireless signals. If your friend goes to Receive from Friend on their Mystery Gift, they will be shown on the lobby as seen in the picture and they will be able to receive the gift.

Doesn't say they disappear permanently from your card when shared this way...

Shiny Legendary Beasts (Raikou, Entei, and Suicune) will be
available at participating GameStop stores -- in addition to being shiny, they
also have special move sets, and give you the chance to catch Zoroark upon
trading to Black/White!

Unfortunately, it looks like this only
applies to English versions of the games (and the announcement actually only
appears on the US and Canada (EN) versions of the HG/SS website (so not sure if
this is available in UK or not as well)), so not everyone will be able to get
this.  But for those who can, here are
the dates of distribution (each lasts a week, and the first starts really soon):

Raikou will be available from Jan. 3rd
to Jan. 9th

Entei will be availiable from Jan 17th to Jan 23rd

Suicune will be available from Jan. 31st to Feb.
6th

See below for more details (or just skip
to the link after the block of text to read the same thing I typed here)!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A Trio of Treasured Pokémon Shine
at GameStop!

The Legendary Pokémon Raikou, Entei, and
Suicune are as elusive as they are powerful, but now you can track down each
one during a special character distribution event at participating GameStop
stores!

Not only is each of these Pokémon Shiny
-- meaning it is a different color than usual -- but each also knows moves it
cannon normally learn!  Raikou can take
advantage of weather conditions with the Weather Ball move, Entei can engulf
its foe in fire with Flare Blitz, Suicune can get a lucky one-hit Knock Out
with Sheer Cold, and all here can learn ExtremeSpeed, to name just a few!  This powerful arsenal will make these Pokémon
ready for even your toughest battles!

Raikou, Entei, and Suicune come in
Cherish Balls, a feature of Pokémon that you obtain though special
distributions.  They will also appear
with a Classic Ribbon, another mark of their unique status in your Pokémon
collection!

There's even more to these special Shiny
Pokémon: when you transfer them to your copy of Pokémon Black
Version
or Pokémon White Version, you'll get a
chance to catch the elusive Pokémon Zoroark -- a Pokémon you can't get through
normal gameplay!

And don't forget you can see Zoroark in
action, as well as watch the Shiny Raikou, Entei, and Suicune when they all
appear in the upcoming Pokémon movie, Pokémon -- Zoroark: Master of
Illusions
.

The distribution for these incredibly
Shiny Pokémon won't last long.  This
exciting opportunity begins in early January 2011 in participating GameStop
stores with the distribution of Raikou.
The excitement continues in late January and early February, when you
will have your chance to receive Entei and Suicune.  You'll only be able to get each of these
Pokémon once per game, and you must bring your cop of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl,
Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver Version games (as well as your Nintendo DSâ„¢
system!) to receive the Legendary Pokémon.

NOTE:
Pokémon Version Or HeartGold & Pokémon Version
Argent SoulSilver will not accept the character distribution.  The transferring of the Shiny Legendaries
will only be able to transfer to the English
Pokémon Black & White
Versions at time of game availability.

How to Receive Shiny Raikou, Entei, and
Suicune

The three Legendary Pokémon will be available at
participating GameStop stores for about one week each:

-  Raikou --
January 3rd through January 9th

-  Entei --
January 17th through January 23rd

-  Suicune
-- January 31st through February 6th

You must have a Nintendo DS and your own
copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold or SoulSilver
Version.

You must have acquired the Pokédex
within your game.

You must have no more than two Wonder
Cards in your possession."

So will the Wi-Fi functions work with a DS Lite or is it only accessible with a DSi? I've looked at places like Bulbapedia and I haven't been able to tell.

I'm curious because I'm getting a DS Lite and Black for my birthday.

Technically, it's local wireless and not Wi-Fi. You have to be within range of a distribution source to receive the signal. Also all DS units, from phats to XL can do this.

You know, I always thought the term "shiny" in regards to differently colored Pokes was a fan term at best. They were never described as such in-game. It's strange to see a national chain use the term so liberally. I mean, it's not even descriptive! "Shiny" pokemon don't emit or reflect light, they've just got rare skin pigment/fur coloring mutations!

(note:  see the edit at the bottom of this post if you're looking for info about the non-US/Canada region Shiny Legendary Beasts event)

Weird o.o  Apparently
there's another event going on as well that overlaps the shiny Suicune event
(which goes from Jan. 31st to Feb. 6th at participating GameStop stores).  It's for "Ash's Pikachu," and is
available at participating Toys R Us stores in the US and Puerto Rico from Jan.
30 to Feb. 13, and in Canada from Feb. 9th to Feb. 20th.  Dunno whether or not this
Pikachu will be able to unlock anything else, but for those who are interested,
here's the information about the event (or just skip to the link at the end of
the block of text below):

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Bring Pikachu from the TV Screen
to Your Game!

Ash and his partner Pikachuâ„¢ have been
through thick and thin together in their adventures on TV and in the Pokémon™
movies. Now, they prepare to go on all-new adventures in the latest TV season,
Pokémon: Black & White!
Follow Ash, Pikachu, and a brand-new cast of characters as they discover
never-before-seen Pokémon through the Unova region.

To celebrate Ash and Pikachu's
incredible friendship and many future adventures, for a limited time you can
visit Toys"R"Us stores in the United States and Puerto Rico to
receive Ashs Pikachu in your Pokémon game. Ash's Pikachu knows moves such as
Thunderbolt, Volt Tackle, and Iron Tail -- just as it does on TV! Ash's Pikachu
also comes holding a Light Ball, an item that doubles its Attack and Special
Attack stats. This is one opportunity you won't want to miss!

Visit participating Toys"R"Us
stores between January 30th and February 13th to receive Ash's Pikachu.  Remember to bring your copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold,
or SoulSilver Version
(each sold separately) and your Nintendo DSâ„¢ system.  Please note that you'll only be able to get
Ash's Pikachu once per game.

How to Receive Ash's Pikachu

Ash's Pikachu will be available at participating
Toys"R"Us stores from January 30th to February 13th.

-  You must
have a Nintendo DS system and your own copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver Version (each sold
separately)

-  You must
have acquired the Pokédex within your game

-  You must
have no more than two Wonder Cards in your possession"

(See
http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/us/#/news/ashspikachu/
for more
details; above quote taken from there as well.  (See http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/ca/#/news/ashspikachu/ for more details for the Canada region, since the other link is to the US region page.))

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also (since I just noticed Sailor Unicron's edit there):

EDIT:  One more question.  Will I still
be able to do the Global Link and Dream World additions with a DS Lite?

hmmm...dunno the exact details of it myself,
though since the Gen V games are for the Nintendo DS, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to o.o  Assuming the English versions of the games
will work the same way as the Japanese versions, it looks like it just uses the
Wi-Fi to connect.

From Bulbapedia:  (dunno if the middle section of this quote
counts as spoilers, so gonna use spoiler tags here just in case)

(quote from http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Global_Link )

Also, here's a link from the official Pokemon website itself with an
introduction to the Global Link (it says you connect to the Global Link
directly from the Pokemon game (then sign into it via a Pokemon Trainer Club account, which can be created on the Pokemon website)), but they'll be providing more details as it
gets closer to the game release, so that'll be something to keep an eye on:
http://www.pokemon.com/us/news/vg_pgl_announce-2011-01-27/

Hope that helps!^^

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:  Also, it looks like the shiny Legendary Beasts will be available for other regions as well (via Nintendo WFC)!

Raikou-  February 7th through February 13th

Entei-  February 14th through February 20th

Suicune- February 21st trhough February 27th

(see http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/uk/#/news/trio/ for more details (gave the UK/Ireland link here, though it's there for all the regions that didn't have the GameStop version of this event))

The Shiny Legendary Beasts distribution event is still going
on for non-US/non-Canada regions (see post
#27
in this thread for more details on that), but in the meantime,
announcements have been made about how to receive Celebi (!) and Victini as
well!  (I'm really excited about the
Celebi event in particular, since out of all the event Pokemon, that one's been
the hardest one to get outside of Japan.
I've been waiting a long time for something like this^^; )

Dates:

Celebi:

US:
February 21sth to March 6th (at GameStop); or started Feb. 5th (for stops
along Pokémon Black Version & White Version Tour)

Canada:
February 21st to March 6th (at GameStop)

(Other regions that currently have this
event listed are:  Spain, Italy,
Portugal, and France.  Dates vary between
them, though it looks like they all last about a month and end on March 3rd.  Also, it looks like they involve going to
their region's local Nintendo Web site to find out how to obtain Celebi.)

Based on the Shiny Legendary Beasts
event, I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before this will be announced
for the rest of the regions as well.

----------

Victini (Liberty Pass):  (the site says more details/instructions will
be available next month, but for now...)

Americas (US, Canada, Latin America):

March 6th to April 10th (via Nintendo Wi-Fi)

Europe (UK/Ireland, Belgium, Germany,
Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal):

March 4th to April 22nd  (via Nintendo Wi-Fi)

Australia/New Zealand:

March 10th to April 28th  (via Nintendo Wi-Fi)

See below for more information about the
events (or just click on the links at the bottom of each block of text to go to
the site itself).  *gonna use spoiler
tags for the blocks of text so this post doesn't get overly long*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The Time Has Come for the Return
of the Mythical Celebi!

(See http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/us/#/news/celebi/ (or whatever version of the site
is appropriate for your region) for more details; above quote taken from there

I don't want to go to GameStop just to download it.

That's why I just stay in my car and grab it from there =) I HAVE STANDARDS, DAMNIT.

You... you can do that? GENIUS!!!

Usually... unless they forget to turn the DS system on... then you do have to go in... and ask them 😯

Celebi acquired.  Like, three of 'em.

And reserved Pokemon White, 'cause dangit, waiting for Gray (if they are planning on making it) would be too late to get some of the rares that have available before then.  And I'm about done with HeartGold as it is, so I'd rather get started on a new adventure.

Has anyone been looking at the new Pokemon?  Some of that stuff is pretty whacked, although I already have some favorites.  An electric spider that actually looks kind of cute and cool at the same time?  Sign me up!

EDIT: Got White just today.  Picked Oshawott...and it's a girl?!  I've never gotten a female starter before AS my starter!  But I'm psyched for Oshawott now after seeing the final evolution on two legs and wielding a huge sword in some official art on Bulbapedia.

Also was able to download the Pass for Victini just fine.

I'm bringing this thread back...time to talk Pokemon! Favorite game, favorite poke...etc! Since that could take some time, I'll just list my top five favorite Pokemon and then add more later.

1. Monferno
2. Gengar
3. Ludicolo
4. Dratini
5. Mareep

I shall list my top six because that makes sense to me.

1. Squirtle
2. Quilava
3. Pidgeotto
4. Sceptile
5. Crobat
6. Skarmory

Currently working to train this team up in White...If I ever complete the pokédex.

Also, if anyone does Wi-Fi, I'm currently looking for a Vullaby and a Tornadus (To trade & trade back, or I can permanently trade for either). Post if you're interested!

I have both. What were you planning on trading? I'd take a Rufflet for Vullaby. I need a Thunderus to get Landorus. Why oh why did Game Freak have to require both for Landorus?

By the way, is there any way to search for Pokemon that you haven't seen?

Nope. If you haven't seen it, you can't search for it (Yes it's real annoying)

Grr, and I haven't ran into any trainers who use one.

Is there a way to trade without using the GTS? How do friend codes work in B&W?

Pretty sure you just use the Union Room in the Pokemon Centers (It's on the second floor) and if the other person has your friend code and is also in the Union Room too, you can trade Pokemon and such. I forgot when you get your Friend Code but probably when you first attempt to trade or...use any of the services on the second floor I imagine.

EDIT: I'm thinking of restarting my Pokemon Black save so if anyone has a male Chimchar, a male Carvahna and a male Oddish, I'd love you immensely.

Can't do anything about the Chimchar or Oddish, but I think I can get you a Carvahna.
