Looks like it is official, Nintendo is remaking Pokemon Gold and Silver
Ummm...this isn't Sonic 3. LOL
J/k! This is cool. I never did play these anyway.
Even I am interested in this and I quit Pokemon a while back.
Well played, Nintendo. Well played.
This means I'll probably have to play some Platinum now. And double check on my Diamond save...
J/k! This is cool. I never did play these anyway.
This is indeed cool, but like you, I've also never played these either. I haven't played any of the Pokémon games, I'm more of a fan of the anime series and various manga series. In any case, I still know a bit about the games and I hope these remakes contain new formes for Ho-Oh, Lugia and Celebi.
And now they have no excuse for not giving us Celebi without cheating this generation. w00t!
I was waiting for this? Could've fooled me. Haven't played a Pokémon since Blue...
This is not Panzer Dragoon Saga. You're on notice Hiro.
I can see it now - Movie 13 will feature Celebi + a Generation V legendary and Dawn will eventually get two Johto starters (ie. Chikorita and Cyndaquil, just like May got two Kanto starters - Squirtle and Bulbasaur) as new ways for the anime series to advertise Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
Heart Gold and Soul Silver
Wow. That's terrible.
Gold Heart and Silver Soul would sound slightly better.
Bring on Totodile.
Heart Gold and Soul Silver
Wow. That's terrible.
Um, ever heard of the idiom 'heart of gold'? Anyway, dunno about 'Soul Silver' though. Err, maybe because Lugia is kinda considered to be the 'soul' of the seas? It's still a bit dull, IMO. Personally, I would've preferred 'Glittering Gold' and 'Sparkling Silver'. <3
...
darn...Gold/Silver were just so good. I may have to buy a DS again
I was waiting for this? Could've fooled me. Haven't played a Pokémon since Blue...
... did you never have a GBA?
ANYWAY... I'm really excited about this. GSC was always my favorite generation. Hoping the redone surf theme stays awesome.
What, not giving a hoot about Pokémon means I never had a GBA now?
Um, ever heard of the idiom 'heart of gold'?
A better question would be: 'have the Japanese?'
Personally, I would've preferred 'Glittering Gold' and 'Sparkling Silver'. ;3
Dawn Gold/Dusk Silver over here, mate. On account of the natures of the protagonist and his rival, and also as a reference to both Tin Tower and the ruined Brass Tower.
What, not giving a hoot about Pokémon means I never had a GBA now?
No, no.... no... no, of course not. Just means you have no soul... for GRINDAN GAEMS.
This is not the remake I was looking for. </Obi Wan>
Also, much like Capcom with Marvel Vs Capcom 2, this poorly kept secret was poorly kept and well predicted long before hand. Not unwelcome though. Now we just need a good remake of all three Shining Force III scenarios, and we can call it a good day for remakes.
I'd have preferred Gold Sun and Silver Moon, but you get what you get.
G/S were definitely the best generation of Pokemon games if only for how huge they were; an impressively expansive number of pokemon to catch, 16 badges to collect, two massive worlds to explore and without a doubt the best story a Pokemon game's had (as far as story goes in Pokemon, at any rate). Not to mention the final boss being the character you played as in R/B was awesome <3
However, whilst the thought of a remake sounds oh so sexy, on the one hand I kind of just want Nintendo to do a new Pokemon game, but take everything that made G/S so great and actually put it in the new game (exploring old lands and seeing old faces, a decent enough story, etc etc).
I can't wait to see the accumulative rage and tears of thousands of Pokenerds when it's revealed that they removed the Kanto portion of G/S for another Battle Frontier/Island/Tower bit postgame.
Kanto was in G/S? Is that what that half of a region was in the second half of the game?
I always felt G/S was the weakest generation. The Pokemon were good, but the layout of the post-E4 game was horrid.
Kanto was a mere shadow of its former self. No Safari Zone, no Seafoam Islands, no Power Plant, no Pokemon Mansion, and no Unknown Dungeon. And no, I don't count the Bug-type ripoff as a suitable replacement of the original Safari Zone.
ALL OF YOU, SHUSH.
G/S were by far the best poke generation, due to its implementation of day/night/day of the week, massive size (kanto and jhoto) and let me say sailor rose there is a fair chance the safari zone may return due to the fact they wanted the safari zone in G/S in the first place but never finished it.
I do agree though, it is a shame kanto was missing all of them places and i think they should return, complete with all the old legendaries.
p.s: i think we can all agree smashing up Ash the zoophile's face in at the end of G/S was nothing less than short of satisfying and arousing.
Personally, even with Kanto being gutted, GS still felt like the most complete game in the series. I hope HGSS Kanto is at least as grand as FRLG Kanto while providing enough difference to make it worthwhile.
It doesn't really matter to me anyway, since I don't nor do I plan to, own a DS.
I was very disappointed at the shell of Kanto. Even its Gym Leaders were pushovers.

UGHHH. am i the only one who dislikes the battle thingamajig? i find it frustrating to go through seven battles for a small amount of BP which amounts to an item that's okay, but you can live without. the reason why i liked G/S was because of kanto, it's like you got a whole lot more playtime. like i told my friend today, i'd rather have 6 lv100s then a pretty good item for one (and only one) of my lv.60-70 pokemon.
EDIT: ok so i didn't realize you were joking haha. but still i could totally see them doing that.
Oh, I'm not joking. There is a very real chance of that happening, if we go by precedent. And I wouldn't have mentioned it if I didn't despise them, too.
You know what would be awesome? If they kept in Kanto, added all the bits that were missing from its G/S iteration to beef it up or rather mix it up a little bit more to show some of the differences 3 years post R/B, and include a Battle Frontier/Tower whatever too! =D
Hell, mix in the Sevii Islands as well and...
i wish nintendo would suddenly wake up to the world and allow character creation on some basic level... male or female really isn't much at all.
I also want 8 directional movement and character renders instead of sprites. Square has managed to succeed at this multiple times, why can't it be implemented in Pokmon?! give me a good damn reason, nintendo
In a game that packed with data, I don't think character renders would be a good idea. 8-way movement would really just change the way puzzles would work, and that's about it. There has been talk about an MMO, but interviews with the designers tend to end with answers along the lines of "WELL... with the current technology in Nintendo systems we really can't..." so character customization seems pretty far off.
No Marina/Kristal .
WHAT?!?!?!?
You can take away my Kanto, you can take away catching Lugia and Ho-Oh in the same game, you can take away Kurt, you can take away the Red Gyarados, BUT DON'T YOU DARE TAKE MY CRYSTAL AWAY FROM ME! =(

I completely agree with ya there, Gyse.
Marina/Kris > this new female trainer
This new female trainer's overalls kinda look like Mario's overalls. =O
*in the corner chuckling at Gyser reaction*
Ahem! What?
O.O ... eyes...
Clearly, Marina/Crystal/Kris was replaced because:
a) she's a female, and this series is notorious for replacing their girls with newer models (see: Pokemon anime)
b) there clearly wasn't enough pokeporn of her in Japan to establish her as a fan favorite, so GameFreak decided to scrap her design
R.I.P., first playable female in the series. You were a trendsetter.
also: it's a-me

I beg to differ! Well..... I don't beg, because begging is for the WEAK, but I DO differ. Also, wasn't Kris only in Pokémon Crystal? Since these games are just remakes of Gold and Silver, it therefore makes a bit more sense that they ditch this broad for another one.
Also, lulz @ new female trainer with Mario-style moustache
Never developed much attachment to Crystal, though I will admit that new girl is a step down, at least until good Rule 34 of here is produced. I wonder what the people behind Pocket Monsters Special are going to do: Gold will definitely get a new outfit to bring him up to date with HGSS look like they did with Red, Green, and Blue for the RFLG arc, but will they just give Crystal a new outfit, or actually create a new character based on the HGSS girl.
Did they hire a new artist? The faces on those kids... creepy.
Did they hire a new artist?
Nup, pretty sure it's still Ken Sugimori.
Yeah i marked out over this a while back. Now I calmed down. I'm hoping for a full fleshed out Kanto &Safari Zone in this. Platinum was a long LONG azz game. I'm srue they can fit Kanto into HGSS. And those abbreviations gotta go. >_o. But yay, took long enough for Johto to come back.
I'm also hoping they don't try no DSi bullcrap >> Cause I'm not getting one >>

Character art seems to suggest the Pokegears are now equipped with cameras.
As long as it will play on a DS Classic, I could not care less what useless DSi-only features they implement.
Anyways, I hope for a fully-packed Kanto, an extended storyline post-E4, E4 R2, Gym Leader rematches, Pal Park, and a return of the Crystal Battle Tower with all ten levels intact.
i don't believe for a second that we'll get that much. but one thing i really love in platinum is the trainer cafe where you fight the gym leaders again. i really hope they do that in this remake.
