Because they are actually good games that seem to play similar like Shadow. Some people called Shadow a poor rip-off of DMC and R&C. Plus it is better for the industry to support the sales of good games, not crap like Shadow.

Actually, I have a whole list of various games I could reconmend. Though I'm not sure if this is the right thread to talk about it.

Okay but why are they good games? And don't tell me it's because of graphics. I never care about graphics. More polygons doesn't get me addicted. What other games wouldyou recommend?

DMC I'm leery of it's just another vampire game and I'm sick of those. But Ratchet and Clank I might be interested in depending.

I think she(?) is referring to Devil May Cry. I also think that she is wrong about it in a magnitude previously unmeasured by scientific instruments.

Also, I wouldn't compare Shadow to Devil May Cry, because quite frankly it isn't just how far above and beyond Devil May Cry is above Shadow in terms of gameplay, stability, control, graphics and replayability, but also that they are completely different games.

It'd be like comparing Jak 2 to Hitman: Blood Money. Sure, they're both third person games with shooting elements, but the buck stops there.

I couldn't tell you diddly-squat about Ratchet And Clank, but Devil May Cry is indeed my forte (Is that even the right 'forte' to use?!).

The original Devil May Cry was probably most famous (to begin with) for being the original proto-build for Resident Evil 4, but when the gameplay seemed to be to different to your standard RE game, Capcom changed it to the more action orientated DMC. When DMC was released, it was quite famed for the fact that it was HARD! If you just ran in and tried to slice all the enemies with your sword, I can pretty much guarentee that you would get destroyed. You really hard to learn the enemies attacks and your own before you could start to pull off some Stylish Combos (One of the main ways to boost your levels scores towards a S rank).

This appealed to some of the more fanatical players out there, who really enjoyed a game that didn't hold your hand the whole way.

DMC2 really got raked over the coals by the more hardcore DMC fans, as DMC2 was toned down in difficulty, so much in fact that your SUPPORT weapons were able to destroy almost every enemy while you are a safe distance away.

DMC3 was a welcome return to the gameplay style of DMC1.

The reason that the DMC series is so popular (and highly acclaimed by critics), is that it does have quite a steep learning curve (Much like Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox). Yes, it is a game based on a half-demon, half-human, angsty, gothic pretty boy, saving the world by wielding a sword, wearing a trenchcoat and having 'hardcore metal' music playing in the background, but it's still a jolly good game. ;)

There, that's why the Devil May Cry series is good. ^_^

The reason that Shadow and DMC would be compared, is because they both feature a 'bad-ass' character going around kicking butt and doing cool stuff. But like CastorTroy said, they are both different styles of games, so comparing them is quite frankly, just plain silly.

Devil May Cry: no vampires in sight, close-combat system that's possibly the best ever seen in an action game, ever.
Enemies that are actually interesting, and have a lot of individual variety as to how they attack. Some of the most memorable bosses you will ever fight.
It's a bit short compared to its own second sequal (DMC3), but you can't have everything.

^Cry you mean.

Originally, I though this topic was going to be about you asking suggestions on great games in general, not these specific games.:> Anyway, people here haven't mentioned Ratchet and Clank yet so...

Ratchet and Clank is a PS2 platformer/3rd person shooter hybrid staring an alien named Ratchet and a robot sidekick named Clank. You go from planet to planet saving them from being torn apart by Chairman Drek, because he wants to create a new planet for his people from the pices of various planets. Despite the basic plot, the game is more comedic in nature.

The game contain different objective to various missions on a planet. One goal could be to reach a certian area to meet a person, while another could be is to defeat a boss. Most planets have more than one missions and some missions can't be completed until you get a certain item from another.

The game also boost a wide array of weapons that can be usually purchased in shops. Certain types of weapons are more effective on certain enemies, so I guess that is a little strategy element to it. Also, as I said you also recieve items that help you progress through the game.

There is also a part in the game which you get to play as Clank, which sort of reminds me of Pikmin.

I really haven't played the sequels, but I have heard that they have more emphasis on the shooting elements than the platforming. I'm not sure what to think of that. I'm sort of on the fence since I'm not a big shooter fan and prefer the platforming elements in the first game. Nevertheless, I do have R&C2: Going Commando shrink-wrapped. Hopefully, I can get to it after I finish my backlog of games.

I've played Ratchet and Clank 1 and 3. I really, really, really love them. The smashable environments, the shooting and platforming. The amount of stuff to do. Can't find R+C2 anywhere though. And Ratchet: Gladiator is just shooting. But its tempting.

The series just seem to be more tongue in cheek than anything else.

I'll be honest I haven't played the Devil May Cry series. They just don't really attract me. Plus everyone all like GOD OF WAR IS BETTAR. That one is tempting.

I suppose Jak 2 and 3 would be comparable to Shadow. Eco Powers/Chaos Powers, Guns, Vehicles. But I haven't played the Jak series either.

Ugh, I didn't dig Jak 2 because certain missions that didn't involve the platform drove me crazy. That, and I didn't care for Jak's smoldering generic rage. I will admit that it is a well-made game from a technical stand point, but it is just that bleh...I thought it was a waste of time trying get through most of it in hopes to play another platform heavy stage. Just not worth it and haven't bothered with Jak 3 since it is supposedly more of the same.

Even though many people including me consider the first Jak and Daxter to be an average platformer with nothing that special, I still perfer it to Jak 2.

Jak's rage wasn't the generic rage (read: completely out of place and for no apparent reason) we saw in PoP II. He's pissed off for a fairly legitimate reason and it's not out-of-place in the series so most people don't mind.

Get God Of War first. Give that a try. If you like it, then give Devil May Cry a go. GOW is a lot easier to come to grips with, as far as the battle system goes. If you find GOW becomes too easy, then give DMC a go. It's a lot more punishing.

However, DMC has something GoW doesn't.
Depth.
If you like more than just superficial prettiness (which GOW has in spades), the DMC is the vastly superior game.
Personally, I found God of War a little dull. It tended to devolve into button-mashing.

It was a colossal mess when I look back at it, but in all that is true, as much as Jak's stupid angst crap annoyed the hell out of me, by the end, he seem to mellow enough to be the hero he's suppose to be. The game has a decent story for a platformer and nice challenges (despite the frustration factor).

Yes, don't bother with Jak 3. That game was SUCH a disappointment, I'd like to deny it's existence.

I had no idea I had a fellow DMC fan here on the forums. ^^

As Xag mentioned, DMC is much deeper than GOW. Play GOW if you like to easily pull off some cool combos, DMC is you want to put some effort into it.

What do we think of Sly Racoon then? The third in Sony's platform trinity.
I've only played the demo on the R+C3 disc. I do like the cel-shading on it. But I just don't like stealth really. I'm a samurai not a ninja. It was okay but unspectacular.

I really liked ratchet and clank 3. Especially the leveling up feature for the guns and the bits where you play as clank. When i first heard about Shadow, i imediately though ratchet and clank.
