I know there's a Halo 3 topic, but I felt this deserved it's own topic.
Anyway, what do you think? Banned until 9999 A.D.? They're not holding back, are they?
Dodeca-tuple secret probation?
This is the funniest thing I have ever heard in regards to Microsoft. As if there was not already enough reason to boycott Microsoft.
Just a sec, I thought this was about some people who got a hold of a review copy of Halo 3 and decided to go online with it and they got banned until 9999AD.
This appears to be that. This isn't stupidity by Microsoft. This is just them protecting their interests.
People shouldn't be play Halo 3 online now. So sod them.
Or you know get a new Xbox Live account. Not 100% sure on that though.

How is this reason to boycott Microsoft? To me, this is reason to say, "haha serves you right you cheating moron".

Personally, I fail to see how permanently banning someone for using a test copy of an unreleased video game counts as protecting one's assets. I would not call this stupidity on Microsoft's behalf, but a continuation of their disrespect for the common consumer.
Now, if you will excuse me, I will continue my Microsoft-free lifestyle over here in Linux Land.
I don't understand why banning someone for illegally using a test copy of an unreleased game in a way the copy isn't supposed to be used is a reason to boycott them.
Why don't we boycott the MoFo for permabanning?
I'm actually glad to see something like this happen. I don't get how this is a bad thing though.
I'd throw in an arguement for the banning, but the only one arguing against it seems to be extremely biased so meh
At least it's not permanent!

I will admit this is pretty small compared to some of the things Microsoft has done, but it does not help them any.
Some of my biggest complaints with Microsoft are as follows:
Brainwashing the masses into thinking there is no alternative to Microsoft Software.
Making it extremely difficult to un-install the various Microsoft products that are bundled with Windows.
Breaking compatibility with each new version of Microsoft Office.
Making each new version of Windows such a resource hog that older computers cannot upgrade to the newest software.
Their habit of not protecting their operating systems from incompetent users.
I think all of the above amount to fairly strong arguments against Microsoft without having to even touch on the issue of "Proprietary Software vs. Free Open Source Software."
P.S. If it is not obvious, the fact that Microsoft is one of the biggest players in the Proprietary software camp automatically puts them on my blacklist.
I ain't touching this one.

That's the thing though, he wasn't just using a test copy of the game. As far as I understand, he was hacking into a private test of Halo 3 that he had no business sticking his nose into.

But if you use linux, the terrorists win! :p
Finally from the same thread (as posted by psx):
My first reaction was to start thinking up rebuttals to those (brainwashing people into thinking there isn't any alternative? really.), but I really don't think it'd help.
BTW, please don't respond to this with more reasons why Microsoft is evil, I really don't want to hear them. If you wish, make a seperate topic for it. Can we get back on topic?
Are these bans going to be kept like that or what? Seemsa little silly. Free publicity, I'm thinking.
At least it wasn't a permaban.
It would be funny if someone manages to live until 9999.
Guy (who's passed his 8000th birthday, a few years back)(in old person's voice): Yay! I'm finally allowed to play Halo 3 online again after cheating online. Here I go.
(Guy turns on the game of the now ancient XBox 360)
Guy: This is the happiest day of my..... ACK!
(Guy dies right then and there)
Though, with that joke, one can claim this means that they are legally obliged to keep their Halo 3 servers running for the next 8 thousand years.
Well, at least the Xbox Live servers.
I wonder if this curse continues with further generations? XD
