hey guys anyone too got this for halo reach, its been out awhile now and its totally cool.. well the coolest game special eddition we ever owned better than lunar's box set.

picture1        picture2

i'm just so thrilled about it, the detail is so wonderful and having the other stuff like the keycard is awsome. why cant all neat games have stuff like that... you know i'm 80% convinced halo is real after seeing those key cards.

Edit:
XD okay fixed the title, let's make it a special edition thread, thanks for the pachman for suggesting that.

I think this thread could be better dedicated to games' special editions instead of just limiting it to Halo: Reach's?

To be honest I've bought a fair few limited/special edition versions of games that have been hit and miss. Most usually just come with a lame 'making of' dvd, but some have been far cooler. A Fallout 3 limited edition I bought came in a steel lunchbox with an artbook and a Vault-boy bobblehead which I thought was particularly cool. The Alan Wake one was also fairly decent, coming in a case that actually resembled a book and coming with a book detailing varying documents and stuff about the Alan Wake world which was fairly nifty.

I think my favourite limited edition though has to be the Dead Rising 2 limited edition. The steelbook case came to look like a pill case and it came with a pen designed to look like a syringe for the ingame Zombrex cure. I've pretended a few times to use it to inject people with something and they all thought it was an honest to god syringe. =D

I'm an absolute sucker for limited editions. From the crappy "We've just put it in a steel tin and included a making of DVD" to the over-the-top "You're paying more than double for the game you wanted, BUT CHECK THESE GOODIES!".

Just swinging around on my chair for a few quick examples;
- Bayonetta: The collectors edition for Bayonetta was quite nice. I LOVE the Scarborough Fair replica. The sample soundtrack was a decent selection from the game. I'm always dissapointed by the little flip-book style art books though. If you're gonna include an art book, make it a decent one.
- Starcraft II: Man, Blizzard know how to do special edition. The speccy box, the edition of the Starcraft comic, a good solid artbook, bonus in game features, soundtrack, and of course, the Jim Raynor USB dogtag containing Starcraft and Brood Wars. <3
- Forza 3: Man, classy as hell. Nice packaging, keyring, Forza 3 usb stick and bonus in game stuff. Nothing over the top, but just nice, especially considering how it wasn't too much extra to buy.
- Halo Reach: Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I would haved payed the entry ticked for Halseys journal alone, let alone everything else. To top it off, it's a great game too. =D

Yeah, I skipped over some of the crappy ones I own. =P

^Agree 100%. I never really bothered buying special editions until I purchased Persona for the PSP which game with a 2-disc soundtrack. I became hooked instantly. Recently I bought the Bioshock 2 Special Edition, and let me teel you this has to be the best SE I have ever seen in my life. Not only did it come with the soundtrack of Bioshock 2, but it also came with the Bioshock 1 soundtrack on a VINYL RECORD. Damn! With that and the hardcover art book I almost forgot there was a game inside. BEST 30 DOLLARS I EVER SPENT!

although i dont see thick anime stuff in special editions anymore maybe its just me, but i miss those anime cut scenes in games like how lunar had them. when i got their special editions it was so magical, i want those anime filled special edition types so much.

Hmmm the only Special/Collector's/etc Editions i've ever gotten are, GT5- pretty awesome collection, i'd say. $$$ was abit steep though. SFIV - the soundtrack was the best thing about it[including the game ], SSFIV[holy crap!] - T-Shirt, carrying bag, headband, flashdrive[with pics], water bottle thing and it wasn't all that pricey either. BB:CT - This wasn't even extra money from the standard edition. Maybe this is why I fell in love with ASW...and BB:CT got my fighting game of the year award for 2009. Either way...it was probably the best special edition. Well 2nd best. SSFIV's was fantastic. So many goodies!

Well the bag itself was rather bland. A black bag with the Super Street Fighter IV logo. 😛 But hey...it's something I can tote my PS3 around in.

Yeah, I've got a couple in my collection.

Bioshock 2:  My favorite out of all of them.  Functional vinyl record of the first Bioshock, soundtrack to the second, three posters, artbook, and the nice case that it's stored in.  It's just made of awesome and win.

Bioshock (1): Nothing too special...except for the Big Daddy statuette included in it.  Also a making of DVD and a 3-track CD.  That, and I managed to grab the last one at the store I bought it at.

Unreal Tournament 2004:  The first special edition game I bought.  It came with a rather decent Logitech headset, a nice metal case, and a DVD on how to make stuff in Unreal Editor.  Also, while not spectacular by today's standards, it came as a DVD instead of 5 CDs.  Hey, it was awesome for the time since it was one of the first PC games to do so.

Devil Summoner 2: Not sure if it counts since all new copies I've seen had them, but the Raiho doll's pretty sweet.

Persona (1): If Devil Summoner 2 doesn't count, then this one even less so.  I think all new copies came with the two disc soundtrack.

Tales of Vesperia: Metal case, soundtrack CD of various tracks in the series, extra art in the manual, also included a code which gave you Volume 2 of the CD (...which I never got...)

Tales of Destiny: Directors Cut: Japanese-only game/special edition here, which I managed to stumble across at Otakon 2010's marketplace.  Came with an extremely nice looking artbook and a soundtrack CD with great remixes of songs from the rest of the series.

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors came with a spiffy watch when you preordered from Gamespot. I love neat little gimmick items like that. Too bad I didn't find out about this game until it was too late. 😡

btw, this game? awesome. i'm not even that far in and i'm completely engrossed in the plot.

Argh, don't get me started with Gamestop and preorder bonuses.  They've gimped me out of the majority of the ones I've preordered for (different stores + online, at that).  At the very least, they've gimped me out of a lithograph from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Junpei's hat for Persona 3 Portable.

The game looks interesting from videos I saw, good thing it's about time for tax refunds.

Anyway, pictures of my above mentioned collection.

Bioshock 2

Bioshock 1

Unreal Tournament 2004

Devil Summoner 2 and Persona 1

Tales of Vesperia

Tales of Destiny: Directors Cut

your collection is awsome taking pics of the ones you got makes us appreciate it more. i dont see tales special editions... i guess i better keep track of when a new game from them appears. i keep missing the good deals, like now i regret buying deadrising 2 without the zoberx pachman got for the special edition i see them in game stores but its not right to buy a game i already have just for an extra something. right??? <confused>

Unless you want to count the BBS PSP bundle from GameStop, then I've never got a special editon of the game; on second though, I think I was able to get a special edition of Batman: the Rise of Sin Tzu (sp?), but that about it though I'm thinking about getting the collectors edition of inFamous 2 and the Toys'r'us Move bundle of Heroes on the Move.

The only collectors editions I've purchased were Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas... F3 I bought and sold the sealed copy of the game that was included, recouping my costs. New Vegas I got via a glitch on Amazon that charged me the same for the standard edition.

EDIT: Oh and Bioshock 2... Via mess ups, returns, and eventual price drops, I also broke even/ made money on this one =D

I'm a total sucker for anything shiny; so working at a video game store makes that habit go over the top.

At the moment, I've got a few special editions;

- Quantum Of Solace
- Resident Evil 5
- Fable 2
- Modern Warfare 2
- Mortal Kombat vs. DC
- Soul Calibur IV
- Assassin's Creed 2

My God. It's... beautiful.
