Bolded text indicates "SWEET HONEY-ROASTED JESUS YES" levels of anticipation. Non-bolded text indicates standard anticipation.
November 7. Can't wait.
Gotta unlock level 7 to get to Rush, but when I do, it shall be worth it and I shall work on no other level until I can walk into any arcade and own that song, completely.
Actually, it's on the OPM demo I mentioned. Fun song to play, but I haven't tried the co-op mode yet so I have no idea how badly the bass section will crush my fingers.
And Misrilou on Expert looks like pain given digital form.
You didnt highlight nirvana. You suck. I think I'll buy the original this week just to have, but the problem I have with the series is that the songs aren't the recorded versions. Oh well. Also some of the songs choices for the artist could have been better.
Mmmmmmm.
Sabbath? Yes.
Danzig? Double yes.
Rage? Anthrax? Hells yeah.
Rush? Megadeth? F*ck yes, b*tch.
F*cking Freebird? MY MIND IS IN ORGASM
Seriously, This game makes me want to buy a new PS2 just for the purpose of playing it.
The vocalist they have for freebird sucks.
Also, I assume this game isn't going to be M.... So how the hell can they have "Killing in the Name of" on the roster?
If they censor it I swear to god I'm... I'm... writing a letter.
Anyways I'd just like to say I hate how most game reviewers and critics play the game and suddenly think they're some "Rock stars". Which turns into them overusing lingo in an attempt to be cool, not much unlike a friend's dad tryign to be cool the same way. It's a shame, really. I could continue this into why I hate the current cultural definition of rock star, but that's ungaming related.
Overall, excellent selection. I'd choose some different songs for certain bands (14 years for Guns n Roses, Would? For Alice in Chains, etc) but it's pretty dashing.

Living End - Carry Me Home
Whoo-hoo! Aussie band for the win! And Living End no less. Colour me purple and call me Rico, this is good news.
Wasn't there mention of a lot of the un-lockable tracks being from pretty major artists this time around? Could be a lot more sexyness coming our way, and I don't mean a shirtless Vec.

Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot
omg yes!!!!!!!! i love that song, even though i'm not that good at guitar hero, i'll practice until i can get it!
Still no Alice Cooper.
Still, those are good songs, though. Looking forward to it.
I've actually never heard "Killing in the Name of", but it would have to be pretty bad. They probably wouldn't rate it M even if it wasn't edited. You figure on a double CD album you can drop an F-bomb or 2 or 3 and throw a s*** in for good measure and they won't mark it explicit, so the game probanly won't be M.
Because Bark At The Moon is the only thing keeping me from beating Normal mode in the original, which I borrowed from a friend.
But Guitar Hero II is definately on my wants list, if for nothing else, then for everything Craig has said plus Freebird.
I played the original again and realised I still can't beat most of the 3/4th tiers on Normal, so the chances of me getting YYZ are slim.
I may skip the game due to lack of skill.
It has been announced on the MySpace page for the Adult Swim show Metalocalypse that the Dethklok song "Thunderhorse" WILL be a bonus track on Guitar Hero II.
EDIT: Well, I've seen the screenshots saying it. It's odd, though. Wikipedia seems to be okay citing it, while HRWiki says it's not a reliable source o_O;
Hrmm? That seems backwards - it's Wikipedia that's all uptight about verifiability...
Haha sweet @ bonus tracks. Also I heard "Killing in the name of..." today. It probably will be a shortened version.
Damn, i'm happy that Rush are on there, but it would've been cooler to have something like Tom Saywer or The Big Wheel (though I suppose they're not as guitar heavy). Or they could have put Hemispheres on, for the truly masochistic.
I dread Free Bird, i really do...i'm 28/30 on expert, but no matter how hard i try, Bark at the moon and Cowboys from hell on expert just mock me...
(Oh and a bit off topic, but it's been over 4 months since i last posted here - crikey! Didn't mean to be gone for so long )
Freebird and Sweet Child of Mine?
Oh god... Oh God...
~Rico
Well Trogdor is kicking my butt. Then again I never actually PLAYED GH1 and I'm only half through medium so I may need more practice.
War Pigs and Monkey Wrench is just fun though. Any tried Jordan? I'm scared too.
~Rico
I don't have it as I, concidently enough, bought a real guitar yesterday :P. However I find the funds to by this.... Somehow...
My friend has it but I haven't played it yet =(
Also apparently Thunderhorse is like 6 minutes long which comes as a surprise to my -ness.
Kevin played through Thunder Horse. I don't think its 6 minutes though.
~Rico
It's not. It's just 3 minutes long. Fun, though.
The stars aligned for me last night and I plowed my way through the last tier on Hard. One try apiece on Beast and the Harlot, Institutionalized, Misirilou(!!!!) and Freebird, two tries on Hangar 18. My fingers still haven't recovered...
And now Expert awaits...
Eh, I just wanna say that I am very disapoitned with the cover vocales.
RAtM's sounds like K-Fed.
LoG's isn't metal whatsoever. It's more punky.
Free Bird sounds just.. egghhh.
etc
But other than that, it is a very ver excellent game. the subtle gameplay improvements help a lot, and the huge number of sponsor things are nice (Like Guitar Center). Track list is pretty good, so I'm satisfied.
EDIT: And curse Troy for not highlighting Laid to Rest. I thought you were cooooolll, maaaannn.
Yeah, some of the vocals were just plain bad.
I love how it asks you like 5 times if you REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna play freebird.
~Rico
Just played it, thoughts are as thus:
Vocals = 2/5
Overall Sound= 4.5/5
Gameplay= orgasm/5
Contains Rush= Yes
Contains Dethklok= Yes
Presentation= 4/5
XBOX 360's guitar controller= Better than GH1's
Overall= Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Freebird was like hugely disappointing though. I've gotta play it on Extreme next time.
I haven't seen the 360 controller and how its different than the ps2 so I can't comment on that.
The rest is pretty much a "wut he said". The vocals were very subpar compared to the first one. Other than that the rest was cool. I liked the set lists from GH1 better, because I knew most of those songs.
But thats not that bad because I've been finding songs I like and nver heard before.
I didn't think Freebird was supposed to be necessarily HARD, just so long that your fingers wear out.
~Rico
The GH1 controller for the PS2 looks and feels like a very cheap child's toy.
The XBOX 360 controller (Or at least, the preorder one) feels a whole lot sturdier, like you don't have to be uber-careful with it.
The PS2 controller is based on a Gibson SG, the X360 controller is based on a Gibson Explorer.
I know that.
I was commenting on the feeeeeeeel of it.
I got GH1 on Sunday after I was unable to score a Wii. It's hell fun, but is it normal for my fingers, hands and wrists to start aching, burning, and sometimes even tingling after playing it for a while? As in 30-60 minutes? Or am I just holding it wrong?
I've personally never had any problems until about the 4-hour mark, so I have no idea. I can say this, though: Don't bend your elbows when you play it unless you need to for a solo. Keeping your arms straight and holding the guitar down low may make you look like a retard, but it'll keep the blood flowing better.
I think I'll try that. I think it's getting worse because I stopped playing a few hours ago and my right wrist still feels almost as bad as the time I had tendinitis. I must be holding it wrong.
If that guitar is above your belt you may as well get a bowl cut and move to liverpool.
Anyway, the first few times I played it my wrists did that too. I can go around an hour now. Hard mode still makes my wrists hurt after a half dozen tries though.

Your strumming hand is the one that feels bad? That's odd. Are you holding the guitar correctly? (if your right handed, left is on frets and right is strumming.)
When I started playing bass, I frequently had pains too, but it was mostly in the fret(left) hand. Since then I have wonder-woman-like hands of steel.
You might just need to train your wrists into it.
Previously it was sort of at my belt. I'm wearing it lower now but the pain seems to have died down quite a bit.

It's what Dimebag would've wanted.
