Well, I didn't think that Halo 2 to the PC would be a surprise but the whole only availible on the new version of Windows was a surprise. But overall Meh.

I await for Cycle's comment.

Forcing people who were waiting for the PC version to either buy a Microsoft X-Box (but not 360, Halo isn't backwards compatible, fool) or or Microsoft Vista.

Poor people who waited for the PC version. They're screwed.

Actually, Halo and Halo 2 are both backwards compatible with the 360 (I should know; I've done it).

Ah, it's Splinter Cell which is the non-backwards one, then?

Why the heck is this a surprise?

Moreover, why the heck are they doing this so late? By the time this game comes out - which, if I recall Vista's release date correctly, is June/July 2006 at the EARLIEST - it'll have been, like, two years old. And totally eclipsed by other FPS games, like, you know, Half-Life 2 (with BETTER graphics than the Xbox version, mind), F.E.A.R., and so on.

Unless this game is getting a serious upgrade (the ability to use mouselook is not a serious upgrade), it's probably not going to be much incentive to upgrade to Vista. Fortunately, VISTA is enough incentive to upgrade to Vista, but still.

You remember what 98se was like when it launched? You remember what 2k was like when it first launched? I know you remember what XP was like at its debut. Do I want to add into that what happened when SP2 went live?

Why in the name of intelligence would you upgrade to Vista this soon? Doing that is sysadmin suicide. I won't even CONSIDER Vista for this place for at least another year. HL2 already took away Halo's FPS shooter thunder on PC. Most people are now saving pennies for ES4 and the MMO/FPS crowd is frothing for Vanguard. Halo2 is an afterthought right now.

Rico, I disagree. Halo never had any "PC shooter thunder" to steal in the first place. Anyone who was actually looking forward to the PC version of Halo 2 is stupid. Sorry.

Bungie announcement - Dunno if there's anything different in there, but hey, it's reconfirmation.

I won't get Vista until the prices fall in a year or two. And if it's so powerhungry, I might jsut downgrade to 2000 Professional or something and use the computer power for better things.

Oh yeah, and Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot again? Big suprise.

And when most of this topic's posters finally get Vista, I'm likely to be enjoying Kubuntu 7.10(or at least 7.04)

Said it before me.
Frankly, PC owners should be happy that a pc port of Resident Evil 4 has been confirmed, instead. Now there we have a quality single-player shooter that doesn't rely on corridor syndrome.

(BTW, I'm criticising Halo and Halo 2's singleplayer here, which didn't hugely impress me from what I've seen/played of them. I'm aware the multiplayer is meant to be the saving grace of said games. I also don't care.)

Problem is, Capcom is generally known for doing a tremendously sh-tty job of PC ports, and Ubisoft is putting StarForce copy protection (you know, the one that breaks your optical drive) on all their products now.

Agreed with Cyc and Xag. No PC gamers I know play Halo on the PC. If they do play ( which is rare, since the PC has such better shooters anyway :.dodges flaming arrows.: ) it's on the 'Box.

The ONLY even REMOTELY good thing about this, was the announcement of some official map making tools. Of course, a better, fan-made one will probably be available about 3 weeks after release.

Meh. The release is pointless. It's too little, too late, and restricting it to Vista is stupid also. Just forget about Halo 2 on PC, and focus on making Halo 3... Well, you know... not suck?

This would require geniunely innovative and imaginative single-player level design.
Going by their track record, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Re: Halo in general:
I don't know why, but even though I've never played either Halo game (well, apart from a quick go on Halo 2 on a GameStation demo machine, which is hardly the best way to appreciate it), whenever anyone criticises the series I always feel the urge to defend it by pointing them towards things like this and this and this. Odd, that. No doubt one of these days I'll actually play the things and be greeted by an intense feeling of profound disappointment.

I should add that, when criticising Halo, I'm doing so on the basis of having played through the entire campaign.
