...so, out of curiosity, has anyone with a good computer been able to play it? I was looking over the screens - very enticing, but there's no chance in heck my computer can handle it, even WITHOUT the HDR. (Seriously. Some people were trying graphics cards below a Radeon 9600 - that is, like a 9250, which is what I have - and the results were anything but pretty.)

I've heard it's good fun, although really, really short (not that I had been expecting much - it's a tech demo, after all). Brilliantly designed and everything. Still, I don't plan on checking it out unless I can get the HDR effects working, since, let's face it, that's the main point to the level...

Shadow, you can still run the thing, just don't turn HDR on. There's other stuff in there that's worth doing.

My system doesn't support full HDR, but it did run some of the other visual tweaks they've added for Lost Coast. I'm getting a new machine next week though, so I'll try it again when that's done. Still, it looks good even with just partial HDR activated, and I particularly enjoyed the developer commentary, which revealed a lot of interesting stuff about the development process at Valve.

My computer is quite capable of running it, but the university network I'm currently on won't let Steam go online without a considerable amount of tweaking. I'd have to make firewall holes for all the ports it needs, and I'm only allowed to make 10. I'm sure it's possible, but not at two in the morning it ain't.

Well, I went ahead and tried it. Tricky, even on Easy, but still the same fun we've come to expect of Valve. Also ridiculously short (I swear I finished that in 10-20 minutes), but again, I wasn't expecting much, seeing as I don't have HDR capability.

As for that article I mentioned (aka the "some people")... dead wrong, the game ran just fine even depsite the fact my computer didn't meet ANY of the requirements Steam was pestering me about. I just didn't get shiny things, and for the time being, I can live with that.

I looked at the systems specs for lost coast, then looked at my computer.
When I've scraped together the money to upgrade to a Geforce 6 and 1Gb Ram, maybe then I'll have a try at running it...
