Systems in question:

PS2
XBox 360
Nintendo Wii (anytime after Smash Bros has been released)
PC (after I have managed to score a good graphics card)

I'm planning to use all these systems pretty much all next year but I'm not planning on getting a portable gaming system yet (given I have this subtle tendency of misplacing items in the worst of places).

That's it. Really. :p

EDIT: My favorite genres are fighting, rpg, and adventure games.

Well let's see.

360 Adventure: Kameo:[can't remember what comes after the name, but I hear it's really good]
PS2 Adventure: Shadow of the Colossos, Ico, Okami, I hear the Rachet and Clanks and Jaks are good...so maybe some of those. lol

360 RPG: N3[Ninty Nine Nights]. I've not played it, but I know i've wanted to.

PS2 Fighting: Tekken 5, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, God of Wars. Can't seem to think of any other. Hmm..

Pro tip: Kameo isn't as good as people have said.

For you, DoN, I'd recommend the following 360 games:

Halo 3 (First Person Shooter/Awesome)
Gears of War (Shooting)
Overlord (Action/Adventure)
Dead or Alive 4 (Fighting)
Virtual Fighter 5 (Fighting)
Chromehounds (Mechs)
Ninety Nine Nights (Action/RPG)
Enchanted Arms (RPG)
Eternal Sonata (RPG)
Kingdom Under Fire (Action/RPG)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Action/RPG)
Mass Effect (Action/RPG)

I think that's all I can name for the 360 which is really worth your money.

Adventure: How can anyone forget Ms. Croft? Legend and Anniversary are excellent and they are for 360 and PS2, Anniversary is on the Wii as well.

N3 is just Dynasty Warriors made by the bloke who did Meteos and Lumines.

As for fighting, I'd throw in Soul Calibur III as well or wait for Soul Calibur IV for the 360.

Well, for Wii, you're not going to get much of anything in the way of RPGS, but there's some good games in the other genres.

For adventure games, I definitely recommend Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. It's an old-school adventure game through-and-through, featuring some really clever puzzles and excellent use of the Wii remote. Also, Metroid Prime 3 is a definite must-have, if you don't have it already.

For fighting games, all I can really recommend in the way of Wii fighters is Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and 3. Yes, I know Dragon Ball Z is silly, but both are terrific fighters, with 3 being the better of the two since it has more refined motion control, more fighters and online play.

Other games I recommend are Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 and, of course, Super Mario Galaxy (but I'll bet you already have that. If you don't, gtfo your Wii).

I want to thank you all for your suggestions. I have recently grabbed Ninety Nine Nights (Action/RPG), based on your suggestions.

I will still be open for suggestions. Mind you, it doesn't have to be any of my favorite genres: if it's awesome (like Halo 3), I'll get it.

Hahaha, awesome like Halo 3. Well the VC for Wii has Galaga, Super Star Soldier, Gradius[and I think Gradius III] and R-Type[as well as R-Type III which I hear is great] for the space shooter fan in you. But really Galaga and SSS is all you need. You'll probably spend a year trying to beat SSS...yet it only takes maybe 30 minutes on a straight run through. lol Then all of the DKCs are available should you care to purchase those. I'm loving my Wii mainly due to the fact of old school retroness. I believe i've downloaded like 9 VC games since getting my Wii and there's tons more I will get once I have the points. :D

If you enjoy adventure/action games, I would recommend Assassins Creed for the Xbox 360. The graphics are exceptional, especially on a HDTV, and the gameplay is decent. My only complaint is that sometimes the game feels a bit repetitive, but I found the storyline to be superb and carry the game.

I agree with NintendoBud.
I have been playing Assassin's creed for about a week.Graphically, the game on XBOX360 looks utterly amazing. The landscapes, the NPCs, the birds flying in the sky and every being in the game look amazing. The feel of the terrain and the light of the sun are perfect. Nowadays, most "next-gen" games look very good anyhow, but the frame rate you get even with hundreds of characters on screen is simply breathtaking. When you go into a viewpoint cut scene, which opens up map areas, you'll be simply stunned by the outlay of the world beneath you. :lol
Here is the one I got:
