HAHAHAH! Kermit! 😛
Famitsu posted several new high quality shots of BbS, including those that highlight the game's new summoning system "D-Link". How it works is once you've filled your D-Link gauge by collecting prize boxes, you activate the Link and choose a character (confirmed so far are Experiment 626 and Cinderella, they'll appear no matter what world you're currently in) and lend a hand in battle. Apparently you'll have unique Finishing Moves (2 per character) when they're present which you can activate after you've collected symbols that appear during battle.
In other news, Aqua's character design is going to be receiving a (hopefully small) change: her 'open back' was a little too risque (for Disney?).
-That must mean there's some kind of gimmick about it, doesn't it. Moving on, we were also finally able to play as Aqua, weren't we. In the test play, our eyes popped at how her clothes were gaping open at the back.
Nomura: Ah, we plan to revise that, because the design is changing. Because it's turning into an over-sexy version, at the moment.
-Perhaps there will be some people who think that's a pity (laughs).
Cinderella as a world partner = WIN!
Ive been Playing 358/2 since i got it thursday, im on day 97 right now, kind of got caught on a snag (darn Agrabah boss battle!) but loving it so far.
As for the Other Games Can't wait for BBS next year. I think this will answer alot of questions & Disprove or prove alot of theroies the fans have.
Also doe anyone know how there gonna bring Coded over to the US sense pretty much none of our cell phones (Except mabye the I-phone) are strong enough to proccess a game like that. My guess is that it'll be a PSP or DS Download when ever it does come. it would stink if it doens'nt come to the US because im really interested in who these "Tormmented" are that Jimminy's journal mentions in the trailer.
Also Hope we get an english BBS trailer at Next years E3!
i'd really love to play birth by sleep, it looks like alot of fun. but i'm pretty sure there's a whole bunch of people like me that aren't willing to buy a psp for it. (i mean if someone gives me a psp for free i'll gladly buy the game.)
I REALLY hope they have a good explanation for all these different Keyblades. Even the villains have 'em... I'm starting to see Star Wars parallels here.
Order of Keybearers, complete with "Masters" and apprentices.
One of them goes rogue and evil, has an apprentice.
Keyblade Wars
Ends in decimation of the Order. Keybearers cease to exist.
Years later, a young boy awakens to his power.
I'm gonna lose it if they reveal Terra is Sora's dead-beat daddy.
I'm with Psx. It kind of makes the keyblade not such an important weapon now. Before it seemed like there was just one keyblade and now...well yea. *yawn*
That aside, this new character looks kind of awesome, like one of the legendary samurai.
Oh, Nomura...
I REALLY hope they have a good explanation for all these different Keyblades. Even the villains have 'em... I'm starting to see Star Wars parallels here.

I doubt it. If anything Terra is the man that becoms the Young Xenhort who becoms the apprentance of Ansem the Wise, who in turn becomes Ansem the seeker of Darkness in KHI & Xemnas in KHII. Becuae the xeanhort in this is an Old man, also the Keyblade wat Happened Pre Birth By Sleep BBS only Takes place 10 years before KHI (Sore & Riku are shown as lil kids in one of the past scans I belive) So I'd say this master is Trying to restore the order, but I agree with you, I think The Keyblade war will Probably only be Mentioned in BBS if they do make a game about it, it'll probably be on a Consle. not a hand held.
I also think its Possible that Ven is Sora's Older Brother (I mean Ven looks Just like Roxas, There HAS to be a reason for that, besides lazy character design, LULZ!)
I mean we don't know that much about sora or any of the Current Hero's Families.
that was a rather accurate description of every rumor about this game. haha
also the Keyblade wat Happened Pre Birth By Sleep BBS
I've never heard of this. What are you basing this off of?
I also think its Possible that Ven is Sora's Older Brother
This is what KH fanboys actually believe. Every time similarities exist between two or more characters, it always has to come to 'maybe they're related!'. Besides, it's just too obvious an explanation. Nomura was never one to employ simple solutions when he could just make things even more convoluted ("What do you mean Ansem isn't Ansem!? FFFFffffuuu--!").
Nomura mentioned thinking about what he's going to do next with the series once his team finished up on BbS and FFXIIIver, but he's actively avoiding calling it KH3. In fact, he's already got something in mind for the next game, only this one would be more of a 'proper installment' of the series and less of a side story, like the recent titles.
Also, do not be surprised if Square-Enix reveals a Final Mix for 358/2 Days is in the works in the coming weeks. Word is, a lot of content had to be cut from the final cart due to rom size and other factors... like this for example (my apologies if this has been brought up before here). There were also several voiced scenes cut from the game that are known to exist (stuff from closed-door trailers the public never saw), as well as many missions that were exorcised as development of the game progressed. Originally, the plan was to have one mission for every day (358!), but Nomura had to get it cut down to what we eventually got (just a little shy of 100). Plus, we already know Nomura is considering it... the only reason it hasn't been announced yet is because they were waiting for the English dubbing for the North American version to be completed.
Of course, there's the issue of cart size limits... 358/2 Days is the largest DS cart to exist currently (2 Gigabits, or 256MB) that I'm aware of, but the upcoming DS title Ninokuni:The Another World is rumored to be a 4 gigabit monster to accommodate all the Studio Ghibli animated scenes and voice acting.
In the meantime, there's something I would like to take the opportunity to discuss. You may or may not have already heard about Sony re-releasing God of War 1 & 2 as a compilation titled God of War Collection in anticipation to the imminent release of GoW3 in March. You also may or may not have heard that Fumito Ueda, the man responsible for ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and the upcoming Last Guardian is considering porting ICO and Colossus to PS3 as a collection. Granted, he admits that there would be hurdles in transferring them over to the PS3 and (hopefully) improving their graphical output but he appears genuinely excited about the prospect. Fans of SotC are especially livid, because it could mean the possibility of cut collussi being put back in the game in some form. And now, the point of this diatribe:
Can it be KH time nao?
Can you imagine Square-Enix following suit and porting KH1FM, KH2FM and KHre:CoM to PS3? Or better still, to the Wii? Nintendo has already played hosts to two titles (the original Chains of Memories and 358/2 Days)... why not throw the Nintendo faithful a bone and drop a KH compilation on them? It'll have all the extras that the Final Mixes brought to the series (which will be a first for North America... Europe too) and maybe a new scene or two connecting the older games to the newer titles.
"What? It'll be better if it was on PS3!", you might ask. Would it? While it would certainly look 'prettier' on the PS3 (and PS2 emulation on PC is undeniable proof that we totally owned you lamers it can look good), it isn't strictly necessary... it is very doubtful that SE would go all out and update the game's textures to 1080p or even 720p. They'd be content to keep it to just 480p, add 2x anti-aliasing and call it a day. A complete waste of the PS3's resources, but just about right for the Wii. And that's perfectly fine, says I. While KH1 is a little dated now, it still holds up quite well... and KH2 improves on it in many ways.
"But the games should all be kept together/in the family!", you might reply. What are you, dense? Are you stupid or something? This is the goddamned Square-Enix we're talking about here: a software developer in the business of making money. And maximizing profit it good business. Going multi-platform may be a detriment to game quality (just ask the FFXIII nutjobs who are completely convinced the game's graphics are being 'toned down' to make porting to 360 easier), but it gets the brand out there. And there are potential customers-in-waiting, who won't be owning a Sony system anytime soon, ready to snap up anything from SE.
"But I don't want to play this game w/ waggle!!!" you might screech. And you know what? Me neither. But thanks to this, we won't need to. And the original should do fine, as well.
"But Nomura HATES the Wii/360/PC!" you continually bellow. lol wut? Did he ever actually state that? Nomura isn't biased about what systems his games show up on... only that his team are comfortable developing games for them, as they had the most experience with developing for the PS2. When they aren't, an outside contractors (Jupiter, h.a.n.d.) can be hired to develop internally. Also, back when KH1 was being developed conceptually, it was thought that, due to it being a joint partnership with Disney, the game would skew much younger and Nomura was asked (repeatedly) why it wasn't being developed for a younger-skewing system like the GameCube? Nomura stated that because of those pre-conceived notions, he was adamant the game should be developed for Sony's current system.
So... let's see... if SE were to do this, there are few issues I feel should be resolved:
- Oi, what's the deal with all the FMV in re:CoM? Why would you even need to FMV in-game cinemas? It just muddies the graphics terribly. Except for the Intro and Ending, every cinema scene in KH1 was rendered in real-time and it looked great! Why should a remake of a GBA game, running on a variation of the KH2 game engine, have to rely on full motion video for all the spoken scenes!? It blows my mind. No more of that, you hear!? And I believe because it *was* FMV, proper lip-synching to the English dub was not accomplished well. This will all have to be fixed.
- Because they couldn't get back the VAs from the Engdub to do 'em, all of the new Org scenes and other bits added to KH2FM had to make do with subtitles. This too should be rectified. Some of these scenes tie in to 358/2 Days and Birth By Sleep. In fact, a few of them re-emerged in 358/2 Days semi-voiced.
- Add unlockable Theatre Mode to KH1FM. We needs the preciiiooouuus.
- Although it doesn't matter to me, making all three games dual language would be ideal. It's already available on KH2FM, but the Japanese dub can only be heard in Theatre Mode, and it has to be unlocked by having a completed re:CoM save file on your memory card.
- Something for the uberfan: an extra DVD containing making of featurettes, game trailers and other behind-the-scenes information. Though I'd imagine something like this could probably be interspersed between the three games (especially re:CoM... if my previous suggestion is taken to heart there would be plenty of space on the disc for such extras).
Well, those bullet points right there are pretty much my wish list of fixes I'd like a theoretical Kingdom Hearts compilation to include. There's probably more I'm forgetting, but you get the idea. Hm, this turned out a bit long-winded. That's rather uncharacteristic of me. I shall have to rectify that sometime.
inb4 tl;dr
I actually read Psx's entire statement and you bring up some fine points. I will add more thoughts about it...like tomorrow when I have more time.
If anyone is shocked that there will be a Final Mix: 358/2 Days, I'll be tempted to ask what have they been drinking and can they share.
MX's apprentice's name REVEALED.
Darth Vanitas? I like the sound of that.
The room he and Ven are in looks like Roxas's room in alternate Twilight Town.
EDIT: Oh, for those of you who've played or are playing through 358/2 Days... how awesome is that Panel System? It's like the Attache Case from Resident Evil 4, it's just fun to see how much %*!% you can fit into it. The only thing it lacked was the option to flip multi-panels around... some of those advanced Gears were a nightmare. And how sad are you to find that we probably won't be seeing it return to another KH, or another game period? BbS is going to have the Command Board... looks like a cross between FFX's Sphere Grid and Mario Party. D:
XDITE: Something I wish to add to my "grievances" from the previous rant: the swapping of Confirm/Attack and Cancel/Jump between Buttons X and O whenever games (especially Sony games) are localized... they need to stop doing that. 358/2 Days proves leaving Attack and Jump where they are is no detriment to how North American and European gamers play their games (although the buttons are labeled B and A in that case, they're in the exact same positions as X & O). FF7 kept it and no one complained then. The Metal Gear Solid series still uses it, and no one bats an eye. Quit swapping mah buttons, Sonah!
Okay so a KH collection with KH1FM, CoMFM and KH2FM would be pretty awesome. I don't see an issue with it being on the Wii but I think it'd be nice if they did it for the PS3 too. Sure it probably wouldn't have updated graphics but KH still looks pretty good. It's not like trying to play...FF7 I suppose on a PS3. Actually it'd be nice if they wait for the inevitable 358/2 FM and just toss it in there too.
Theatre Mode? Well if the other games have it, why not? If not, I don't see a real need for it since you can probably watch any number of those FMV's on youtube.
For kicks I'd like to see them add another difficulty level, for those of us who want an extra hard challenge. Let's face it, these games are easy.
How about an artbook along with this collection? Okay that might drive up the costs so maybe it could be sold separately for the uber KH fans out there...and it'd have the art/sketches and what not of every game in the compliation.
And if that's not feasible, at least a soundtrack with some of the best tracks from all the games. I do like the idea of a behind the scenes DVD with the additional informtation.
Dual language options...heh. Don't have anything to add there so I'll leave it at that.
I think if they do anything for KH 10th Anniversary it should be to Release the Final Mix Versions of the Games in a Deluxe set (With a Bonus artbook or somesuch) Not just re-release what we already have.
Also Another good 10th anniversary gift would be Taking away the rights of the manga from tokyopop & give it to someone who will Treat it better! TP HAS DELAYED THE REST OF THE KHIII MANGA FOR TOO LONG! AND IN ALL HONESTY THE QUALITY OF THERE MANGA SUCK COMPARED TO OTHER COMPANIES (I MEAN THE BINDING, LAMINATION & PAPER ARE WAY WEAK COMPARED TO DEL-RAY,VIZ, YEN, ETC.)
BUT I DIGRESE.
(Also forgive my caps, but when i talk about TP...I GETS MAD!)
EDIT: @PSX: Nourama Himself said the Keyblade war Happened before BBS, It to was in an interview
KINGDOM HEARTS
Birth By Sleep
The Official BbS site has been updated with some new gameplay movies, and the TGS 2009 trailer! You can also watch it on Youtube, in both RAW or English Subbed versions.
In related news, Famitsu has revealed the release date for Birth By Sleep in Japan: January 9, 2010.
It's already out?????
So I guess in reality a release date of Summer or Fall 2010 for us...
Fixed.
And yeah... isn't that always the way with Square-Enix localizations? Granted, most of their catalog are text-heavy RPGs so it can't be helped.
Actually that was a conservative guess. I was honestly figuring we wouldn't see it until late Winter 2010 or later.
Those little star things Aqua are holding, they look familiar. Maybe I've seen them before, maybe I haven't, ugh.
Those little star things Aqua are holding, they look familiar. Maybe I've seen them before, maybe I haven't, ugh.
They look like the charm Kairi gave to Sora, I think. Memory's fuzzy.
I beat 358/2 Days yesterday. Woo!
It's also part of the keychain to the Oathkeeper.
The Game comes out January 2010 in Japan, according to the newly translated article at KHINSIDER.COM. Wich means it'll Probably come out next July or August here in the USA & Canada. Probably around Christmas 2010 in PAL Territories.
also you can watch the TGS 09 trailer there as well, it has Translations underneath it. & to PSXphile, Near the end of the trailer Master Xeanhort
is seen in the Field of Keyblades Talking to the 3 apprintances about the War, wich means its True the Keyblade war happened before BBS, My guess is it happened when Xeanhort was younger.
Also in the lower right corner of the scan, who's the guy next to Terra and below Tinker Bell.
Hm... could be Xigbar's Somebody, Braig. It's been hinted often that of all the Organization members (minus Xemnas), ol' Xigs has the highest connections to the events of 10 years prior. He's mentioned on one occasion the existence of other Keyblade Wielders, and 358/2 Days made it quite apparent that Xigbar was, at the very least, familiar with Ventus.
Yeah it seems to be a younger version of Braig.
Looks like you'll be fighting Braig at some point. And he (appears) to have captured Xehanort? I guess we'll see at some point who gave him that eye patch and scar...
Pete's in-costume name is Captain Justice, btw. And I guess some of those shots are of the new world Disney Town. And some shots of "Keyblade Race", one of the new mini-games.
...
Huey, Dewey and Louie are... still the same age. 😮
EDIT: new Famitsu scans here, here, here, here and here.
- Pete dons another costume, calling himself Captain Dark.
- Terra, Ven and Aqua's storylines reportedly converge in Radiant Garden, and they even fight a powerful boss together.
- Ienzo is shown, looking way younger than anyone would have considered.
- There's also a spread featuring Kingdom Hearts Coded, regarding details on Episode 6.
- Apparently Donald and Goofy will be joining with Sora (finally) in this installment.
RE-EDIT: Hi-res pics ahoy!
Terra is the new Knuckles. 😡
inb4 why are there 2 zacks??
KH fanboys were beginning to foam at the mouth, thinking that Squeenix was going to leave out the FF cameos like they did with 358/2 Days. This will (hopefully) put a kabosh on that line of thinking. Still waiting for Aya Brea to make an appearance (gotta hype up The 3rd Birthday, doncha know).
I'm still waiting for FF 1-6, 9, 11, and 12 characters. Noruma's FFs aren't the only ones in the series
A series of new Famitsu scans were uploaded a few days ago, now each page can be seen translated here. Also, this ad that's been circulating showcases new artwork that may become the game's official box art.
And Japan TV has recently started airing this commercial for the game. Only about three weeks to go...
A new trailer has been uploaded to the Official Birth By Sleep Japanese Website. Look for it under "Movies". You can also view it on Youtube, and a script translation can be read here.
This is the trailer that was shown behind closed doors at Jump Festa a little over a week ago. It'll likely be the final trailer before the game is released on the 9th of January (not precluding in-store Promotional Videos, which may be recorded and uploaded to the net as the release date nears).
EDIT:
A trailer with subtitles!
*will be buying a PSP for this game*

The 2nd bolded statement pretty much guarantees another Final Mix for Japan. I guess we should be happy with what we get... but WE WON'T. Anyhoo, I wonder what they mean by additional multiplayer options?
Yay, summer! I already knew this I just wish they would nail down a final date. Since I'll have to get a new PSP to replace my broken 1000, it would be nice to have a concrete date so I would know when to start saving up for a new PSP.
I mean...they gave us 3D Chain of Memories which was a Japan exclusive so they have to give us a Final Mix in America, right?
Re:Chain of Memories was practically a new game in itself, despite the fact it was cobbled together from old assets. Interesting note: the Square-Enix development team behind Re:CoM wasn't the main KH team headed by Nomura, but an offshoot team from Osaka (KH team is in Tokyo, I believe). Because the PS2 port was well-received, Nomura tapped them to head up development of Birth By Sleep while the main team is preoccupied with Final Fantasy Versus XIII. According to some of the reviews for the Japanese version of BoS, they managed to exceed expectations. No doubt Nomura is going to keep them around for more KH titles.
The Osaka team had previously worked on various PSOne games like Einhander, Brave Fencer Musashi, Parasite Eve 2 and for the PS2 flop Samurai Legend Musashi before working on Re:CoM. Also a few team members within the studio hail from Konami and Capcom previously during the 90's, before leaving and joining Square.
EDIT: still no release date, but Euro version confirmed for Summer 2010. Simultaneous launch, yes?
Development on KH3 dependent on Versus? Ugh, that could mean anything. Perhaps if Versus doesn't sell enough or...what? Another additional KH title coming out this year? Another maybe next year?? But but...what would they be about? Is it bad that I'm kind of tired of all the KH madness and just want KH3? Well aside from the fact I want to play BBS...but STILL. This is becoming like Megaman now.
Development on KH3 dependent on Versus? Ugh, that could mean anything.
I assume he means that serious development on KH3 will only take place after Versus is completed. It's still possible for the game's release to slip in the coming months, which means work on KH3 will also be pushed back.
But but...what would they be about?
Mickey's time in the Realm of Darkness, The Keyblade War (my guess for multiple protagonist game) or perhaps a follow-up on the new mysteries revealed in Birth By Sleep?
I got some good news and some bad news. The good news: the western release date for Birth by Sleep is finally revealed as well as a KH PSP bundle pack. The bad news the US release date is September 7th and the European/Pal release is September 10th. While I was hoping it would come out sooner, it just means I have more time to save for the bundle pack! Also, Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock, is voicing Master Xenahort.
If this new (barely) English trailer is indicative of Mr. Nimoy's work in the new game... well, not sure if want. It sounds like he's got a cold. 🙁
Other VAs confirmed to be among the cast include:
Mark Hamill (Terra?)
Willa Holland (as Aqua, apparently)
Jesse McCartney (returns as Roxas look-alike Ventus)
James Woods (reprising Hades)
Mark and James are old pros, no worries there. But I can't think of Hamill and not hear DAT LAUGH so I'm curious how he'll come off as straight man and brooder Terra. Jesse managed the Roxas role satisfactory, in my opinion. No qualms there. Willa's the new blood, and as I don't watch much prime time TV I don't know anything about her work or whether she can portray a convincing Aqua.

Hate to break it to you, but if he sounds like he does in J.J Abrams Star Trek, then yes that is his new voice (But since he's retired, I doubt an encore will be given).
Mark Hamill (Terra?)
But I can't think of Hamill and not hear DAT LAUGH so I'm curious how he'll come off as straight man and brooder Terra.
While the GameFAQs boards are hardly a reliable source, there's been speculation that Hamill maybe Master Eraqus though I have seen him suggested as Terra's voice as well.

Have you seen much Avatar: the Last Airbender? His Firelord Ozai was quite straight and brooding, and pretty damn menacing to boot.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Hamill voicing Ozai, and yeah, Ozai was definitely a menacing big bad.
oh yeeeeeeah, forgot about ozai
New English screenshots are now up on Gamespot; also, 1up was listing it's top 50 list of games their looking forward to at E3 and the BBS section, while small, has some footage of the English version with Aqua uttering a few words. This is a YouTube video of just the BBS section.
North America BBS Official Site updated with the new English screenshots and a longer Gameplay video, in which you can hear more of Aqua and a tiny bit of Terra and Ventus. Sounds good for the most part.
Under Media you can see that there are reserved spaces for 5 more videos, including a trailer for E3 which is 10 days away.
