It's a very good day to be a Konami fan. Today as part of its pre-E3 conference, Konami announced the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and the Zone of the Enders HD Collection.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will contain Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The Zone of the Enders HD Collection will pack Zone of Enders and Zone of the Enders 2. Both collections have been optimized and rebuilt for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with new user interfaces for the HD resolutions, redrawn art, brand new Trophies/Achievements, right analog stick and rumble support, and improved audio.

Metal Gear overlord Hideo Kojima pointed out that while Peace Walker is part of the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, it is not part of the PSP Remaster series.

Another feature both collections support is Kojima's new "lifestyle" called "Transfarring." That is not a typo -- Transfarring. Using this system, PlayStation players can have one save that works with PS3 and PSP copies of certain games. Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as the first (and so far only) Transfarring capable title. Start your Peace Walker game on the PS3, copy the save to the PSP, play on the go, and then copy it back to the PS3 to pick up where you left off.

No word was given as to what would happen if you earned a Trophy while using the PSP (a system which doesn't support Trophies). Also, the Zone of the Enders HD Collection is said to support Transfarring, but no PSP versions of these games were announced. Kojima said that he was looking to bring Tranfarring to the NGP, so perhaps that is where we'll see the ZOE plan come together.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be available this November, while the Zone of the Enders HD Collection will be coming in 2012.

EDIT: oh shi-- Silent Hill is getting a collection too.

For the nostalgic, Konami has bundled Silent Hill 2 and 3 into an HD package called Silent Hill Collection. These two titles are getting the high-definition upgrade, so a whole new audience can enjoy these horror classics. No release date has been announced.

Does 2 games classify as a collection? I'm not too familiar with the metric system. In America, we would call that "Silent Hill 2 and 3". Yeah thanks guys!

Probably not gonna bother with that. I just might get the MGS one though... Later. I assume they're gonna charge full price for them.

Well, let's see what Webster has to say about this...

Collection: 1. A set of items or objects procured or gathered together by a person, group, or other agent 2. Multiple related objects associated as a group

Well, I guess.

Multiple: consisting of, having, or involving several or many individuals, parts, elements, relations, etc.; manifold.

Well, I guess.

Many: constituting or forming a large number; numerous

Wait a minute... 2 isn't a large number! Okay, I guess that's a vague definition so I admit defeat.

Several: being more than two but fewer than many in number or kind

Whazza? MORE THAN TWO and less than MANY? So then 2 objects can't be a collection! That is false advertisment right here! Man, if this was a drug deal, I would have shot Konami in the face! I'd be like, "B____, WHERE'S THE REST OF MY GAMES!?! WHAT? YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T GONNA COUNT THAT S___!?!"

I apologize in advance for my poorly dubbed-in quotes.

I thought this was only for PS3, then I noticed the green cover. Peace Walker on the 360? Hell yes! Even though I own a PSP, I played the demo awhile ago and found the controls difficult so I never bothered with it. Also, Metal Gear Solid is too epic to be contained on a small screen.

While I am not a fan of old games being rereleased on HD as they never look the same, knowing Kojima these will probably have cool extras worth getting it for. Zone of the Enders I am still very fond of, as it is the game I bought my PS2 for.

All of these are being bought. Every single damn one.

The fanboy in me would have hoped that the PS3 version would have included MGS1/Twin Snakes and MGS4 as well, but I suppose it'll do. HD METAL GEAR FOR THE MOTHERTRUCKING WIN.

AND ZONE OF THE ENDERS
AND SILENT HILL

MAHHHHH GOOOOOOOOOOD

I'm surprised I didn't say that myself (TTS at least, I could barely stand replaying MGS in 2008.) They'd just need to cut out the Nintendo bits. I understand 4, since that's too new to update. With Peace Walker ported, it would have been nice to play the entire franchise on one system (which I can do with Silent Hill. Ah, the little things in life...) And nobody point out Portable Ops because that game never existed.

Portable Ops was pretty damn awful. Whilst I wouldn't have expected MGS4 in a collection to be on the same disc as the rest, it'd have been nice if they released some sort of subsistence/substance version of it with the rest of the MGS games.

So many new pants would have had to be bought.

I was gonna say you just answered your own question, but now I'm thinking you probably just meant an expanded MGS4 as opposed to the collection including an expanded MGS4. If they give these games trophies though, are they gonna do them for 4 then too? Also wondering what the hell they are possibly gonna name these games now that they are subsistence/substance versions of the subsistence/substance versions. I guess they'll just shrug it off.

ADD: Oh yeah, are these games actually going to be on one single disc? I have no idea what they can hold.

On the PS3, a lot.
On the 360, not so much. Expect multiple discs.
